It's as good today as it was when we were all mad teenagers, now we all mad old crumblies. These youngsters should realise that if it wasn't for music like this none of their trance or techno would exist. The electro pop era started the ball rolling for trance and techno. So kids stop whining and saying we don't understand todays music because us old mad crumblies understand it a hell of a lot better than you ever will.
@felicia5337 Funny you mention the drums. These were REAL drums. Not electronic or programmed. Can't remember the drummers name but to keep perfect time is awesome.
damn if this don't bring back some great memories. dance'n our butt's off at the Funhouse, try'n to keep pace with all the monster jams Jellybean mixed.
this was my theme song when i was running late for 1st period class at washington h.s,going from south chicago to the east side this was playing in my head lmao brings back memories thanx for posting
That sounds cool. I bought a yellow one which was made up as a wall clock with gold colour hands....looks quite good on the wall " Got divorced when I was four...you gotta beat the clock!
Yes Ive got the dark blue one now which looks blackish when on a turntable but bright electric blue when you shine a light through it...... so far Ive seen red, yellow, green, orange and dark blue/black. I wonder if there is a normal blue one?
I use to be a Skate Guard and the DJ would tell everyone to get off the floor so all the Skate Guards we were also Skating Crews can skate to this song. We use to fly by with this song. When we skated to this song people had to get off the floor it was to dangerous for them to be on the floor when we were on the floor.
My mother had a vinyl with one side (green label) containing the original cut, and the other side (red label) had a shorter version of this extended version.
I first discovered Sparks on...Supersonic - ?!...doing "Looks, Looks, Looks"...instantly hooked...went out and got 'Propaganda' - I was just 13 - and instantly fell in love..."BC" is still prob. my fav. Sparks track...I love "Beat the Clock" tho' - the couplet "No time for relationship / skip the foreplay, let 'er rip" is right up there with "It's a lot like playing the violin / You cannot start off and be Yehudi Menuhin"
On the 12" version it has a man talking about something meaningless if I remember rightly. This version is different to the one I'm used to hearing. It was common to have vinyl in an assortment of colours. Does anyone ever make vinyl in those colours anymore? I love them for their weirdness. Thanks for posting
I remember there were 2 cloured vinyl releases, 1 was this 1 with 3 different track mixes. The other was number one song in heaven, longest mix was close to 12mins. No1 in heaven was orange. Beat the clock ramble started with ...' boong, boong, boong' and had then went on to discribe man being here for a purpose but not a porepoise as not many went to discos. No1 in heaven had him stating god was number one in heaven and to suggest other wise a breach of copyright. Funny the things you remember.
This disc caused a bit of controverysy at the time, when spinning on the turntable the girl appeared to performing an act of a "lude" nature, you canwork it out from the stills....
this 12 inch version drove them wild when i mixed in nyc...7 inch sounds good, but this one has a lot more energy...meaning forget what make up u have or suits, its time to dance

Beat the Clock is one of the absolute best Sparks songs, but I always preferred the single to the 12" for some reason, it just seemed more bubbly.
