Wow... it's amazing how such simpleminded baboons could say such things about The Beatles.. you know.. considering that all that terrible music they listen to now days, was evolved from this..
Will never be a singing tandem as good as Lennon, McCartney. NEVER these two were geniuses. 40 years from now when I'm old and have grandchildren I will fill them in on the music wrote about 100 years ago.(at that time), and let them know that this is what started it, and cherish it bcuz there will never be another John, Paul George and Ringo . #bestbandever.
yea, age is nothing & hearing 13 yr olds brag & 52 yr olds chastise gets old real quick at 22, but maybe i'm the girl kaleidoscope eyes. i realized love for The Beatles & Shakespeare come with age though, so congrats but shut up & keep on exploring music because it NEVER ends (: (esp with the likes of beatles & radiohead, I have been a radiohead fan for almost a decade & I would be not the least bit surprised with hearing a foreign song of theirs.read history for yourself, these are mad times
I hate kids who say: 'If music's old, it isn't good anymore.' I always say: 'If music the still kicks ass 40 years later, than you know its good music.'
Ya i'm a generation X-er 37 years old, this album is right up there with nevermind, hysteria, OK computer, master of puppets , PLease please me is a great beatle (second side) album too.
It is done in a waltz 3/4 count with alternating 4/4 count. An intro, first verse and then a bridge and a refrain. The bridge is in the key of B flat but completes itself
in the key of G. It was not the first time the Beatles used a 3/4 waltz rythmn,
"We Can Work It Out" had one in it. The verse is in the key of A and consists of a chromatic filling (repeated) out of a I chord. Lennon wrote the song about his son
and denies it was about LSD. But Paul today says different.
@ozzybwild That's because the class is over....lol None of the Beatles could read or write music. So George Martin would do the arrangements like the trumpets, horns, and strings, etc. for the songs that had them in them. Okay, lecture is over now....lol
@jpsmart59 I'm seriously interested now (despite my cynic comment)!
Is it that he DID the arrangements FOR them, or rather just helped out writing down the notes for the stuff the "famous four" created/thought of without further knowledge of music theory?
@jpsmart59 You are mistaken. Though John wasn't classically trained, he wrote all of his own music. He would present his songs on acoustic guitar, and he'd tell GM vague descriptions of what he wanted production wise. Paul would come in knowing exactly the sounds and arrangements he wanted. GM would conduct and arrange the orchestras. You should read Here, There, and Everywhere by Geoff Emerick. He was The Beatles' engineer from 1962-1968. It talks all about how the Beatles wrote and recorded
@jpsmart59 Yes it is true that the beatles use triple metre in the form of 3/4 time in the verses of this song and in other classics such as Shes leaving home complete song but I must say that paul and john both could read music as they both wrote songs that they wrote the music for such as hey jude and imagine
first heard this on a john peel radio show about drugs in music of the 60's peel spoke about the LSD influence hence the words- Lucy Sky Diamonds he also played the rolling stones Mothers Little Helper- also worth checking out.
i remember when i first started liking older music (no offens) its when i was 10 my bro had red hot chili peppers and i told my friend about it and he knew them to and asked if i knew the beatles i said not really and he showed me them the first song i heard was this :D (btw im 13)
everyone who says that this song is about John's kid just because they read it on wikipedia must be extremely gullible.... this song is all about tripping balls
@theganjafarmer42O Watch the "Making of Sgt Pepper" here on Youtube. All the Beatles and George Martin talk about it and you can see for your self what it was really about
Anyone who has done L.S.D. will realise,it describes it all perfectly, and could be about nothing else!!!! John just said it was about a painting by young Julian, but he was obviously being duplicitous!
i know people who say the beatles are over rated and they refer to them as old music, i simply respond by saying screw rap and hip hop this is real music.
I first got into the Beatles in 1987. Sgt peppers had just been released on CD for the first time and there was a lot of press about the release. After having seen a news story on it I borrowed the cassete [I had not owned a CD player at the time] from a friend smoked a small amount of pot and listened to it at home on headphones. I became a fan Immediately.Damn those were some good times.
@goodmorningpie no. because John did the song after his son showed him a painting that he made called Lucy in the sky, google it even, Lucy was a girl in John's son's class, and they were friends so he made a drawing and showed it to his dad (John)
This song is not about drugs (LSD). it's about Julian's drawing of a girl in a sky full of stars made out of diamonds!! i hate when people say "TEACHER!!!" or "MOM!! SHE'S LISTENING TO A DRUG SONG!!!"
@mistyxwyx To me the two are not mutually exclusive. In other words yes maybe there was such a drawing but I also think John saw the title and realized that it could also be a good title for a song about LSD.The song is a psychedelic song. All you have to do is listen to it to realize that it descibes an acid trip. It is no secret that John and the other Beatles had taken LSD. Had someone like Donny Osmond wrote then I would not think it was about acid but were talking about John Lennon.
Who cares about age. Either you like it or you don't. I was born when grunge was born. I like that as much as beatles, SRV, D'angelo, David Guetta and [insert a whole decade of music artists].
40 years ago this was pop. 40 years ago, elderly and a minor part of the youth cursed Beatles while listening to Shostakovich.
True, I never get tired listening to the Beatles songs. I even tried to sing like the Beatles since I was a teenager and now I am 47, still listening to the their music and singing along. I have requested a song "in my life" to play at my funeral. I grew up with the Beatles songs and will die with the their songs.
