With polygamy, the NUMBER of participants is changed, not the gender.

The vote wasn't even about the sanctity of the word marriage. Marriage is not solely a religious institution, it is a legal contract and all citizens deserve the same rights under the law. The vote was about the right to obtain a legal contract from a courthouse to ensure legal rights and protections are given to a couple who want to be legally considered as one. If straight couples can do it everyday without question, but same sex couples cannot it is discrimination, plain and simple.

The part of the definition of marriage that is changed with same sex marriage is the gender of it's participants, not their number or blood kinship.
With polygamy, the NUMBER of participants is changed, not the gender.
With incest, it is the kind of blood relation that can be acceptable that is changed.

Polygamy has historically had a pretty negative impact on women's rights. I'm not sure that a man marrying another man is comparable in anything other than it used to be taboo.

The vote wasn't even about the sanctity of the word marriage. Marriage is not solely a religious institution, it is a legal contract and all citizens deserve the same rights under the law. The vote was about the right to obtain a legal contract from a courthouse to ensure legal rights and protections are given to a couple who want to be legally considered as one. If straight couples can do it everyday without question, but same sex couples cannot it is discrimination, plain and simple.
