  • This is horrible work. He should of replaces the entire piece of wood with a PVC trim piece. His work will just rot again since its not treated or PVC. The seams where his patch meets existing is all jacked up. Don't follow this insult to carpenters advice!!!

  • @dragon76dc Awesome! My YouTube experience is now complete as I have my first negative comment and dislike!

Seriously though, it's obviously a temporary fix, and I even allude to that near the end of the video. At the time we didn't have the money to replace the entire frame nor to pay a professional to repair it, so this was the best I could do with my limited tools.

Also, while the seam isn't pretty, we did seal both ends before putting it in and painted the rest with a sealant.

  • I just used some putty on mine to have looking fresh and clean since my wood was not damage that badly...my wood haha lmao

  • Just did this last weekend... used rotten wood epoxy and a new sill from Lowe's, and new caulk/spackle/paint.

If you're using wood repair, make sure and seal all ends with polyurethane or wood hardener/epoxy, and cut the wood the butts against the old trim at an angle (angled down).

  • Thanks, man! I'm going to go give it a try. I'll let you know if it worked.
