Tarja never sang Bye Bye Beautiful. But she is a great soloist, virtuoso and technician who sings bel canto arias with just a few days practice. Oh, and she became a metal legend before she was 25.

Which is true is that Tarja version was way better, much more powerful, but I don't totally dislike this, is a different kind of singing (if she would try to sing this like Tarja she'd destroy her voice XD). I think her voice on the new album is much better and she has improved live performances too.

I am an musician, and after listening to both Anette and Tarja, I established my own conclusion: Anette doesen't have the power to sing Tarja's songs. Her voice is beautifull, but too WEAK. Too much WEAK. Tarja, in missing of stronger word, BLOWS crowd with her voice.

We could debate Tarja vs. Anette forever and a day. Truth is that both singers are good singers! Neither Anette or Tarja really live performers, they rely a lot on edits, mixing and multitracking. I've heard both singers murder songs in live versions. Tarja's voice was sometimes too much, Anettes sometimes not enough. I like Nightwish a lot a and personally feel Marco is the best singer!
@pricechris10 Multitracking during concerts really gets on my nerves. I was on Tarja's (solo) concert once and I was very pleased that multitracking wasn't used at all. I would say that's one of the differences between "old" Tarja (with Nightwish) and "new". A change for the better.
Not at all. For me at least the idea of singing live/attending a live show is to 1) hear the performance unaltered (if it's a good performer, that is) 2) have the artist there.
Bless the child for eg had - since day one - a choir made from Tarja singing on several voices. Studio, live - all had that choir.
Tarja was still singing her own part live.
That's the soloist part.
Totally different from cheap singers who use backing vocals to mask their own voice.

If I wanted to listen to the studio version I'd listen to the album. As far as backing vocals go, I agree that when used incorrectly they can be really annoying. BUT Imagine a great LIVE chorus which would fit Tarja's voice. Wouldn't that be great? Well, I know, not gonna happen.
"New Tarja" also sings in opera, does classical and neo-classical shows with string quartets. Many times she sings unplugged, accompanied just by herself on piano or even without any instrument. Or improvises like here

@rsimion3 Almost all bands use multitracking to punch things in/out and strengthen the sound in the studio. Nightwish tend to produce things to a high degree and use a large number of tracks in their work. Backing vocals and choirs are used to good effect also strings and horns, additional percussion etc. When it comes to live performances with recorded backings the musicians need to be spot-on and it's impossible for the vocals to sound like, or be as accurate in pitch, as the album version.
She sings out of tune dude. One thing is to miss a half-note or two, other thing is to sing all over the place, miss half the notes and sound like shit.
Tarja was in the exact same position as Anette is today and most say she was even better live than in studio.
I am tired of these discussions, if you like what you hear, enjoy it.
She really does sing out of tune, and it's ouch! The fun thing is, I'm always one of the people who WANT to give the new singer a chance, but it often doesn't work. The only instances I can think of right now where it did work are Sirenia with Ayleen, and Iron Maiden back when they hired Blaze. And Blaze was good, but the shoes were just too big to fill, I guess. Bruce IS Bruce, after all. Same with Sepultura and some other bands. But regardless, this song is so out of tune. Too bad.

Tarja has super skills, indeed has a cult and powerful voice etc. But she is much than that, the magic lies in her inborn voice. Nobody can pinpoint what, but it's there.

@rsimion3 I have heard concerts where Tarja's vocals have been out, maybe due to monitoring problems or maybe just a bad day, but they were poor. I have great respect for Tarja and her vocal ability. I think studio wise Anette is good, not live though. I was disappointed by her live vocals after hearing DPP ( which was a good album- if a little self indulgent by Tuomos). Imaginarium is a good album. In the end the line-up has changed. We can always stop buying their music if we don't like them!

well, this is not 'Tarja's way of singing', and I agree that Anette doesn't have as strong voice as her,and I can only say my opinion-Tarja was not better live. I've seen her live, one of the last performances with Nightwish, some 6 years ago, and I was SO dissapointed.. and it wasn't due to sound problems, cause other bands were awesome. that's all.I'm not saying Tarja is better/worse/Anette is better/worse etc. just stating my opinion. Awesome song anyways :) peace ^^

I am an musician, and after listening to both Anette and Tarja, I established my own conclusion: Anette doesen't have the power to sing Tarja's songs. Her voice is beautifull, but too WEAK. Too much WEAK. Tarja, in missing of stronger word, BLOWS crowd with her voice.

'm not a trjaholic or something, I like both old & new Nightwish, but this sucks! Annette should sing only songs form DPP and Imaginaerium, the songs from Tarja era were disigned for a voice similar to Tarja's. Nightwish themselves were not searching for a Taja no2 when Tarja left, so they should stop performing songs from this era live

Haciendo referencia a la descripción del video:No se trata de agredirla , considero que Annette tiene una buena voz pero aquí no da ni una , desafina y sobre todo tiene un problema con la respiración , creo que este tipo de canciones en las cuales cantaba Tarja con una tesitura bastante alta y LIRICA , no deberían cantarse por Annette , se trata de una cuestión técnica , son voces muy diferentes.

We could debate Tarja vs. Anette forever and a day. Truth is that both singers are good singers! Neither Anette or Tarja really live performers, they rely a lot on edits, mixing and multitracking. I've heard both singers murder songs in live versions. Tarja's voice was sometimes too much, Anettes sometimes not enough. I like Nightwish a lot a and personally feel Marco is the best singer!

@pricechris10 Multitracking during concerts really gets on my nerves. I was on Tarja's (solo) concert once and I was very pleased that multitracking wasn't used at all. I would say that's one of the differences between "old" Tarja (with Nightwish) and "new". A change for the better.

Both of you are confusing it with backing vocals. And both of you are wrong.
In Nightwish the band used sometimes a chorus made from the voice of Tarja , singing in another scale. That's the idea of singing with a chorus :)
Btw it's harder, not easier to sing live with a chorus.

Not at all. For me at least the idea of singing live/attending a live show is to 1) hear the performance unaltered (if it's a good performer, that is) 2) have the artist there.
Bless the child for eg had - since day one - a choir made from Tarja singing on several voices. Studio, live - all had that choir.
Tarja was still singing her own part live.
That's the soloist part.
Totally different from cheap singers who use backing vocals to mask their own voice.

If I wanted to listen to the studio version I'd listen to the album. As far as backing vocals go, I agree that when used incorrectly they can be really annoying. BUT Imagine a great LIVE chorus which would fit Tarja's voice. Wouldn't that be great? Well, I know, not gonna happen.

"New Tarja" also sings in opera, does classical and neo-classical shows with string quartets. Many times she sings unplugged, accompanied just by herself on piano or even without any instrument. Or improvises like here

@rsimion3 Almost all bands use multitracking to punch things in/out and strengthen the sound in the studio. Nightwish tend to produce things to a high degree and use a large number of tracks in their work. Backing vocals and choirs are used to good effect also strings and horns, additional percussion etc. When it comes to live performances with recorded backings the musicians need to be spot-on and it's impossible for the vocals to sound like, or be as accurate in pitch, as the album version.

Tarja was in the exact same position as Anette is today and most say she was even better live than in studio.

She really does sing out of tune, and it's ouch! The fun thing is, I'm always one of the people who WANT to give the new singer a chance, but it often doesn't work. The only instances I can think of right now where it did work are Sirenia with Ayleen, and Iron Maiden back when they hired Blaze. And Blaze was good, but the shoes were just too big to fill, I guess. Bruce IS Bruce, after all. Same with Sepultura and some other bands. But regardless, this song is so out of tune. Too bad.

Wow, I just can see why people dislike this so much, Tarja version is better and in that we agree but this isn't as bad as you think. @rsimion3 I have heard concerts where Tarja's vocals have been out, maybe due to monitoring problems or maybe just a bad day, but they were poor. I have great respect for Tarja and her vocal ability. I think studio wise Anette is good, not live though. I was disappointed by her live vocals after hearing DPP ( which was a good album- if a little self indulgent by Tuomos). Imaginarium is a good album. In the end the line-up has changed. We can always stop buying their music if we don't like them!
