Pakistani's do not care about US approval to fight for freedom in Kashmir but corrupt leadership does not want to risk loosing their business investments. However, we are a people more than willing to strike any opponent with full force.
The US understands that a war with Pakistan will be the end of their nation as well resulting from economic collapse and the death of most of their armed forces unless they eventually settle on a ceasefire as evidenced by their own history.
The person giving lecture has painted a very negative picture of Pakistan to sell his book to those innocent AH who don't have an idea about this part of the world because they only watch CNN a Canadian news channels! and they don't tell the truth, they should watch RT& Press TV to know what is US and NATO forces doing doing in this part of the WORLD.
US has no business here, they are the one who are turning normal people into terrorist, they are here to Rob countries of their natural resources
@56fayaz He is doing a good job selling that book -I bought it -It is brilliant and very true -It will take an outsider to raise the smell in the house -The natives have got used to it!
Actually I completely disagree with this author in a number of issues (though there one or two points on the political dynamic that I believe are right)
For starters Pakistan's military does not get an abnormal amount of state funding. In fact they get about 2.8% of the GDP in funding (like India) - milexdata.sipri. org/
All of the issues center around lack of tax collection b/c of incompetent and/or corrupt leaders (particularly in government) as I'll explain...
Pakistan's government confirmed that around $70 billion was lost because of the countries assistance to the US (more like blackmail and threats towards corrupt leaders) in this lie about a war on terror. What this has led to is a lack of investment in a host of areas in particular energy production which energy experts admit robs Pakistan of 3 to 4% of GDP growth per year (thenews. com. pk/TodaysPrintDetail.aspx?ID=8816&Cat=13) meaning we should be achieving 8% growth
Thus, when the government failed to make up for the $70 lost by the state (loss of human capital, infrastructure, investments, etc...) by increasing taxes the funds necessary to invest in electricity production weren't there.
Zia was able to more than double the GDP within 10 years even though a war was being waged in Afghanistan
The problem lies in the lack of honest and intelligent governance making wise policy choices based on our interests not the US'
Pakistan also does not need US "AID" which wasn't aid at all it was meant to pay for troop movements into the frontier areas if not to attack at least host a presence to deter infiltration across the border but ever since the Abottabad raid the PAK army has refused to accept any monetary assistance from the US
Furthermore, the American government is now even refusing to provide civilian aid ($300 million) to Pakistan whose loss isn't great but will not harm the economy.
Opinion polls show that the army has an approval rating of 80% which imo would be much higher (like around the 90% mark as it once was during an IRI poll conducted in Pakistan) and the country is very nationalistic which is in many cases intertwined with love of religion and history (you'll see this in the diaspora like myself as well who also have Kashmiri roots) as evidenced by a variety of opinion polls & which politicians like Imran Khan tap to quickly rise in power.
@manhornz You are looking at Official figures for Pakistan! Are you otherwise touched -Yes 2,8% correct -and 70% for the generals family friends and private bank account -But me thinks you will not find the ledger for that - Lets be real please -and look at facts -Not the sort of erased history taught in these countries -The you might actually do well -Maybe!
Great stuff. I wish we had scholars like these in our own country.
How oblivious we are to the looming water crisis. This man should be applauded for just highlighting that fact and many other things.
