I didn't realize the Sunset Limited had so many cars thru Banning eastbound. Eleven cars seems unusual, including a lounge car. Ride the Coast Starlight to L.A from Seattle often. I'm 70 and grew up across the train depot on San Gorgonio Ave in Banning. Would leave the food on the table to jump the ditch and stand next to the trains going by. Never got any flack from by dear aunt and uncle who raised me as an only child. Saw the Sunset Limited from the mid 1940's to the 70's. Good job.
@JIMBOSKI58 Thanks!!!! Some of the cars are for the Texas Eagle and they are taken off once the Sunset Limited reaches San Antonio, Tx and attached to the Texas Eagle in San Antonio and continue on to Chicago. You can ride Amtrak from Los Angeles to Chicago via the Sunset Limited and Texas Eagle. I grew up along UP's Santa Cruz Branch Line in Aptos, California and lived there for nearly 20 years and always saw the Coast Starlight in Elk Horn Slough near Watsonville.
Yes, a couple of the sleepers at the end of #2 are put over on the North/Eastbound Texas Eagle at San Antonio for through service to Chicago. Great shot of the Sunset Limited ...at sunset LoL!! Nice to see you getting some shots of some of our "southern Amtraks"!! (c:
Highball train #2! I believe a couple of cars at the rear of the train will come off in San Antonio on the 2nd night and will couple onto the northbound Texas Eagle, train #22 headed for Chicago!

@hoorider13 I knew some of the cars on the rear were for the Texas Eagle but I had no idea that one of the P42's also went on the Texas Eagle.

Well done, James!
I wonder why the extra cars? Perhaps, those are deadheads...
NebulaTrain99 1 year ago
@NebulaTrain99 Some of the extra cars get transferred over to the Texas Eagle Train in San Antonio, Texas.
