  • who's got acid?

  • I just funked all over myself

  • Wow!

  • Someone help me!! I am looking for one of the other top funk instrumentals at that time...I know that Dennis Coffee Scorpio was one of them. This one by Billy Preston was another...But there was another instrumental that had a similar keyboard sound that Billy is using and was a huge song. I need help from those who are the funk historians...it was about 1970-71 era..

  • In the words of the maestro"Evening Keith ...how you doing...well on the show today between three and five along came Billy Preston with the one called.....Outer Space".

Back to reality - thanks for the links, haven't actually tried either of 'em yet tbh. There's a chap on the one of the AF youtube sites wanting to know what the acoustic guitar music on AF's "Poets Corner" spot. Any ideas? Have a great Christmas...alright......and that's for sure!! Malcolm

  • this is a great tune, and that's coming from a white guy! :)

  • A #1 hit for Billy Preston on the Rhythm & Blues charts. This was the 249th #1 R&B song of the Rock Era. It also hit #2 on the Top 40 charts. Last night, I watched the American Music Awards. Had they existed one year earlier, I feel that this song would have been nominated. I hope that they give their Lifetime Achievement Award to Billy in the future.

  • Far out and Grooooovy!

  • I will never forget this record. RIP mr. Preston

  • RIP - BILLY PRESTON!

  • Great record - always associate this with the mercurial Alan Freeman and his short lived weekday afternoon show on Radio one. god bless you Fluff - and that's for sure pop pickers!!

  • Preston and others around this time put a lot of work into making their own special sound. Great music from one of the Masters ... We get old the music stays young.

  • Thank you very much ! An absolutely great song with a few snaps and pops . Takes me back to high school !! Thanks again.

  • I was given a Best of the 70s CD after my grandfather passed, and this song was on it. Played it for the first time in my car, and literally played the thing until my ears bled. And I STILL kept playing it! Though he's gone now, long live the Black Beatle (AKA The Fifth Beatle to some folks).

  • move your ass!

  • funk-a-delik! A little Stevie wonder-isk but still bad ass.

  • i was attending a cook out (in my youth) at my cousins house when i heard this song...I played this song at least a dozen times while I was there

  • Boogie on forever, Billy Preston. May you rest in peace.

  • A Friend asked me to check this channel out and i am Happy I did

    Thank You for posting this!

It was Good to Hear my Guitar & wah wah pedal with Billy Preston again :-)

    David T. Walker (Guitarist)

  • @MrDavidTWalker You're playing on this song? That's so neat! I was in the 9th grade when I first heard this, spring of '72. I loved it then and I love it now.

  • @MrDavidTWalker Great to hear from the players on these songs. I was a young teen living in Southern Ontario, Canada when I bought the 45. It made the hair stand up on arms when I played it. I'm 50 now, and listening to it just now, it did the same thing. Some music is just timeless.

  • Lets Get Funking!!!...and that 1961 Fender Precision....Summer 1972

  • Lets Get Funking!!!...and that 1961 Fender Precision....

  • Whatever turntable you have there, sounds good and is keeping perfect time.

  • @elc1960... :)...H2...SO4...has got a real kick to it, but stereo...105 is safer yeah...

stereo...105 is WVBF :)...remember The Magic Cristian, nights on WVBF? And another daytime (dawn-dusk) daytime only AM station...(WNTN?)..."your daytime nightclub?

Thanks lots for the reply...i miss (old-time) Boston radio Big-time :)

  • @vicky75201 Oak Cliff - the area that gave us T-Bone Walker and Stevie Ray Vaughan. Two more people the world is poorer without (I know that's bad grammar, but it's accurate).

  • Had this..... Funk Funk Funk

  • To all of you at YouTube...Thank you for sending the Email for "The Vigil" by Blue Oyster Cult. I had recorded the song on cassette WAY BACK in 1979!!! THANK YOU!!!

  • Found this song by accident. I bought the single "I Wrote A Simple Song" in December 1971. Flipped it over---curious as to what "Outa-Space" sounded like. I was mesmerized. It's so perfect I thought it done by computer! I didn't hear this on radio until May 1972...6 months after I bought it. Even "The Bus" came out around April 1972 while I kept jamming to "Outa-Space". Kids at school called this "my" song because that's how they heard it all those months before radio hit it!

  • My favorite song!

  • Billy Cranks!

  • Is it possible to find the name/group of a song I heard and recorded in 1979?... {Our lights are dim / our roads are crumbling...down...and we don't know what to do...We're sick and tired and dying to meet you...cause we've bit off more than we can chew..] HELP! Maybe someone out there can help...

  • @357431smithmr, I think the song you are talking about is 'The Vigil' by the Bue Oyster Cult. At least, that's the song i found when I searched on those lyrics in google :)

  • To patroleleven: I remember when this song was popular and I had NO idea if the artist was black OR white and, frankly, I could not have cared less. It was (and is) a great instrumental. Geesh, who cares about race when it comes to great music?!

  • anyone else hypnotized by the turntable?

  • @truthaddict11 , I have. The Moody Blues Threshold label (a yellow comet on dark blue) was always hypnotic to watch, and Canadian experimental pop artist Nash the Slash had a cool skull on his records that was neat to watch rotating.

  • @truthaddict11 LMAO!!!!

  • @truthaddict11 I'm hypnotized by your mom! ba-zing!

  • @truthaddict11 no because I haven't time to look at it

  • LOVE this song totally yeh!

  • This is my absolute FAVOURITE funky song EVER!!! It's on this game called Driver Parallel Lines, and I've even heard it on the weather channel before. I could never figure out what it was called..I'm soooooooo happy I know now. How can anyone dislike this?

  • Comment removed

  • Saw Billy Preston open for the Stones in the early 70's. Billy came out from above, attached to a rope and flying around the fabulous Forum (any of you from So Cal and remember when the Forum was THE venue for concerts) and settled at his keyboard to open with this song. I think it was the Stone's Exile on Main Street tour, or Sticky Fingers.

  • Billy is funky on the Hohner Clavinet

  • if this was a vynil record I would have worn the grooves off it already!

  • Look up 'funky sound" in the dictionary

It says: "please see Outta Space - Billy Preston"

  • This song is absolutely perfect!

  • Oh yeah baby heard it on the weather channel, never has the local on the 8s been so funky.
