Hey Everybody! I have just released my new electronic album “Sub-Zero” which is heavily influenced by the music and world of the Mortal Kombat series. If you're interested you can listen to the full album on my youtube channel, as well as download the album for free!
@Draken4426 ill admit that there are other great 2D fighter games than Street Fighter 2 but Street Fighter 2 is the fastest and most balanced fighting game ever made. With Mortal Kombat everyone has the same speed and range but who cares we only like MK for the humor and gore.
When I dug my old Sega Genesis out of the basement and ordered a copy of MKII off amazon, I must admit that I couldn't quite get into the game as much as I used to.
The music on the other hand (as well as the game's back story) enthralled me just as much as it had when I was young. Maybe even more so.
Both the Mortal Kombat series and Street Fighter series have had awesome installments, as well as titles not so great in their lifetimes as game franchises. In my opinion, it's silly to compare the 2 as they are completely different games with different goals in their design and overall presentation. Sure, we could argue about what game is better for various reasons. Personally. I just prefer to enjoy both for what they are. Fun! If you don't like either game, then don't play them. Simple.
I player this game a little bit and I liked it, but SF2 is way better, so much solid game compared to this. They are almost two different game genres.

One of the greatest 2D fighters ever made imo, Street Fighter 2 is overrated imo and Mortal Kombat brought BALLS to the fighting game genre. There are other great 2D fighters OTHER than Street Fighter 2.
yea, the dude's totally cheating, look at how he just slides closer as he's throwing all the freeze balls. looks like a cheat for an easy freeze-uppercut bs.
I remember standing in front of an MK2 arcade machine for a half hour waiting for the attract mode to loop back the screen showing the address to send money to order the MK2 soundtrack. As a bonus it included the soundtrack for MK1.
@ 3:44 insert sound of growling trees!!! The Living Forest will always be the best level in ANY Mortal Kombat. And it sucks that it didn't have a Stage Fatality but it was cool when they added one in MK Shaolin Monks. Will always be my favorite
I remember this is when i first got into fighting games because i always got my ass kicked by my brother by subzero so i thought i would pick someone new other then baraka so i picked scorpian and i kicked ass
Good game, but in retrospect the music seems more atmospheric than catchy. It isn't music that I'd play casually, but at least it sounds cool. A couple themes seemed to be ripped right from the first game.
further proving why button mashing fighting games require no skill at all... if i was playing a subzero like this i would punch him in his face in total frustration...
mk9 has changed the game of fighters and took all fighting games to a hole new level

Nice collaboration of music! My personal favorites 4:34 and 6:32. 6:32 being far harder to find anywhere and too short. Nice!
elamit 7 months ago
@elamit
Damn, I remember clocking MK1 on master system and they had a downgraded version of 6:32 playing for the credits after clocking it. I hear ya bra

The first music is from MK1 and the second is just a remix from the Official MKII Music cd. You kinda fucked this up.

I think either MK Trilogy or Deception was the best of the series.
stryker1500 2 years ago 16
@stryker1500 Deception was a disaster. Trilogy imbued everything that was good about the series.

@Draken4426 agreed, but the only problem with the early mortal kombat games was lack of stringable combos and such

Weird, I never noticed that! Good point, Game Geenie most likely...
Or one of the In-Game cheats.

MK has some really amusing stuff in it, but gameplay-wise, I always thought it was the worst of the major fighters.
GoldenJoe 2 years ago 14
@GoldenJoe
That's because it was more about being flashy.

I always thought it was weird in MK2 that Kung Lao's protrait always reminded me of a chinese Clint Eastwood for some reason...

Yeah, that music at 6:33 is the MK1 continue screen music. Arcade only, I think.
