  • How old is this video?

  • @UncleTito72

    1991

  • Cecelia is a bit lost now....and her problems with the Coluratura start with her Mother...at the same time, the foundation her mother gave her in Legato is good...

all the mixed pieces of life....

  • Cecelia is a bit lost now....and her problems with the Coluratura start with her Mother...at the same time, the foundation her mother gave her in Legato is good

all the mixed pieces of life....

  • Did anyone understand what notes she's singing at 1:12 ? it's the HIGH F!!! of the queen of the night! she sings it 3 times here

  • if this woman taught cecilia bartoli to sing, she needs to give lessons to everone eles

  • What is this from? I'd love to see the whole segment.

  • @flyinggeese426 From the dvd, A portrait. It includes this documantary about Cecilia and a concert with Cecilia ;)

Cecilia deve cantare piu tenuta e controllata! Cosi e sempre hysterico sul palcoscenico ! -18

  • @jaxonbaby

You actually speak a pretty good Italian but you do not understand much about music :)

  • No, not to be "the best"... wrong,

but to strive for growth, for leaning, for maturing,

    for more sensibility and appreciation.

The being the "best" is a trap.

  • @fabrizzzio48 So true. Self-seeking is an inauthentic motive that cannot sustain. You have to do it out of love.

  • CREDO KE LA VOSTRA SIA SOLO INVIDIA...CIO KE DICE LA MAMMA DI CECILIA E' GIUSTISSIMO...SOPRATTUTTO QUANDO DICE KE LA FORZA DI VOLONTA CONTA MOLTISSIMO NEL REALIZZARE I SOGNI. LA VOCE DELLA BARTOLI SI SA E' MINUSCOLA IL VOLUME E' UN DONO NATURALE SE NON C E L HAI BUONANOTTE MA CECILIA CANTA BENE LO STESSO ANKE SE LE AGILITA IN QUALUNQUE REPERTORIO SONO UGUALI MA X ME RESTA UN MOSTRO DI TECNICA|!

  • @emilytransex hai parlato per 100 anni!!! brav@!!!

  • If all the knowledge about vocal production made its way to the stages of the world, we'd be living in a golden age. As luck would have it, we'll just have to leave vocal production and the views about it to those in the arena, namely opera singers. Excuse me; I have to get back to doing.

  • you dont see mezzos singing high Fs so often...

  • All wrong all wrong all wrong. She is just lucky the voice can take that kind of pressure. Not for long though.

  • The anti-Sutherland. Mamma took a high coloratura and turned her into a pressed mezzo. Go visit Bonynge in Switzerland.

  • @ian1856 I dont think so, the amount of power she has down low cannot be synthesized

  • @skitzo429 I respect your opinion, but I wouldn't call what's down low true power. Put any voice under enough pressure with that much tension, and the sound will alter. That said, you go your way, and I'll go mine. There are plenty of singers out there for each of us to enjoy. I'll shut up now...

  • @ian1856 See theres the difference, its true that if you put any voice under enough tension youll get at least the illusion of power down low, but that kind of singing will destroy a voice if its not a real mezzo. Beverly Sills often commented later in her career that she had ruined her voice singing big low chesty notes in Donizetti's devereux and taken years off of her career, Bartoli has been singing professionally for over 20 years, if she wasnt a real Mezzo she wouldnt still be singing

  • @skitzo429 I understand your point, but I'm one of those people who feels she's actually a high soprano. And the only way a high soprano can last for so many years with that technique is to sing as a mezzo. That said, it really is nit-picking, because she's a great artist and what she's doing is obviously working for her...and a lot of other people as well! I certainly NEVER want to be one of those losers, who spends his time bashing great singers on YouTube. Do enjoy!

  • @ian1856 I think you missed what my point was, and your reasoning is flawed, high sopranos do not have longer careers by singing mezzo, that would ruin their voice. I know a number of sopranos who have gotten vocal nodes singing things that are too low for their voice, if anything singing mezzo roles when one is a high soprano would ruin the voice even faster. The fact that she has been singing mezzo roles for so long means she IS a mezzo. check out soprano assoluta, the concept explains her.

  • @ian1856 Thank you for sharing that. Have a good evening!

  • @ian1856

LMAO, and then she would have a hollow sound below G4...

  • love that technique !!!! I want to know how she does that O.O!

  • 0:38 ... wow ... F#6 from a mezzo? Incredible!

  • @rossyxan She wasn't even straining on that F#6.I wonder how much higher she could actually go.She could try to sing more coloratura soprano roles.

  • What Cecilia mother means when she says the tongue must be down?

  • @bailharico I think she doesn't know herself... There are muscles that "go down", but not certainly the tongue. And just because she happens to be the mother of the most tecnicly perfect singer of ever, it doens't mean she is the greatest voice coach ever. Although, some of the things she says are true.

  • @Querzeo I agree, she says lots of good things but the tounge cannot be held down! Your tounge must stay up and forward if you want to activate that spot behind your nose...if you get my meaning lol

  • @LaCarusiella that's what I mean. Thank you. :-)

  • @bailharico LINGUA RILASSATA KE NON SI ALZI...

  • @grobprandl73 INVECE MI DISPIACE X TE MA LA LARINGE SI PUO ABBASSARE DI VOLONTA'. SI ABBASSA NATURALMENTE RESPIRANDO MA LA SI PUO FAR ABBASSARE X DARE ANCORA PIU SPAZIO E TENERLA SEMPRE ABBASSATA.

  • Her mum looks exactly like Mariella Devia :)

  • @thomastmwc

Ewwww, Devia? don't insult Cecilia's mom.

  • Does anyone else think her voice sounds a little bit like Renee Fleming's in that last part?

  • i love CB!

  • How old is this? From the '80s, maybe?

  • @Spoxjox

    mid 90's.

  • will be this video part of a documental?

  • Mrs Bartoli, Her Majesty, looks like Meriella Devia....lol

  • she looks a lot like her mum. they both have such bright eyes! like there is a fire in them!

  • that woman gives me the creeps. Am I the only one?

Ringrazio al padre eterno... communicare col Prossimo???

    WTF???

  • @vivacecilia sì grande metodo, l'unico vero!

  • wish I had my mother supporting me like this

  • Geez, Cecilia's so young here! It's weird to think that she's been 'on the map', so to speak, since the late '80s!

  • how do you use low larynx for vowels other than oo? especially ee?

  • @StitchBeatbox

All the vowels in singing must be done in the same position of the throat: some people are immediately turned the voice on U, other on I, this does not matter. But this video is a bit 'dangerous because the sound U that the mother does, is not correct: she is nice, but a bit' tricky :-)

  • @galehout

That's ridiculous, if you only use one vowel you have no diction, if all you wanna do is sing cute vocalizes that's fine, but that doesn't work for opera. Cecilia's mother is right and the results show.

  • @primohomme but I have not spoken a single vocal, but only one position, which must be sung in all the different vowels. Opera singing is based on vowels, sung on the so-called "open throat" = same position of the throat, if you want an example of this, please see the explanation of Pavaraotti and Marilyn Horne here on youtube (how to sing bel canto)

  • Does'nt seem too much of a problem...being she specializes in Italian rep,

  • @galehout thanks for your help galeout =)

  • @StitchBeatbox

You don't say ee as in english but ee with the lips as in oo almost, that rounds the sound and protects it.

  • @primohomme sing ee with the lips as in oo is useless, if you do not sound well supported on the breath, through the position of the throat open. The lips do not serve to make the sound round

  • @primohomme what she is talking is an obstacle that must be overcome to pass from uneducated sing to opera singing, ie move from the position of throat closed to open throat. It is not an easy thing, some take a long time, others never arrival this goal (was told by Bartoli's mother to a friend of mine)

  • This is very interesting!

  • What are you lot like!!! One writes crap, manrico60; one fails to open all of the Russian dolls and misses the obvious kernel,HasLev243: operamusicfan, far from living her dreams through Cecilia, her modest and gracious mother Silvana nurtured Cecilia, her sister and brother, now sadly passed, with the most precious of all things a Mothers Love.

    Get a grip!!!

  • You chase Bartoli as I chase you chasing her...

    You just don't like her...

  • Resentido.

  • jejejeje

    qué es cruzao?

  • oh shut up!

  • biffy... shut the fuck up!

  • obviously he's way in over his head...

  • the method is the same, like Caballé etc. She simply refer to open throat ("un po' violento" in her italian expression = volontary)

  • I find it funny when she says - you need quite a lot of things to be a good singer, I mean her daughter is a magnificent singer!

    Stupendo

  • Bravo Cecilia!!!

  • Brava famiglia! ¡Gracias!Francesc :) La Taula de Barcelona.

  • that was inspiring!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I see she's as hyper at home as she is on stage :P

  • haha I love cecilia Bartoli, but its pretty obvious that she markets herself in the WRONG fach, she is most def. a high soprano of somesort maybe even some kind of coluratura, but for sure NOT a mezzo.

  • Actually. She is a mezzo. A coloratura mezzo soprano.

  • How do you know that? Do you live with then? lol

    staydatip xD

  • How do you know it's typical? Do you live in italy? no? I didn't think so.

  • does everything? the video only shows cecilia's mother teaching her to sing. not enough to make this sweeping and unfounded generalization you have made darling.

  • But its fact that Cecilia Bartoli is the best of the best!!

  • Excuse me, but are you jealous of such relationships?

  • Why would you even say something like that?

  • <3!!

    cecilia ...awesome :)

  • Thank you so much for posting this!

  • kmeee....I want her to teach me...

  • I think she is her mum, because they look similar. Her mum says very crucial things!!

  • Is that really her mother? If so, she is very lucky to have a mother like that. Hopefully, Cecilia feels the same way.

  • @cyliu0413 cecilia's parents are bother lyrical singer. in italy people like we call people like cecilia "figli d'arte"

  • Wow. Cecilia is absolutely beautiful in both body and voice!

  • i love how versatile she is and how adventurous. her vivaldi cd was so fantastic, just like everything she does. and she seems so genuine. besides being so gifted and humble, i think she's beautiful. and i hate the criticism too! the people who criticize her often can't do a tenth of what she can do! thank you for posting this! brava, cecilia!

  • Amen!!!

  • cecilia bartoli is too amazing for words to fully describe. her voice is beautiful and her control over it is amazing.

  • When I see her performing live I really feel like jumping into the stage and giving her a big hug

  • does anyone know what this clip is from?

  • It's on the DVD "Cecilia Bartoli - A Portrait". Beautiful DVD for Cecilia fans....

  • She's got AMAZING EYES

    and truly AMAZING VOICE=)

  • How hih does she go?

  • pardon? what do you mean?

  • I think Cecilia's facial expressions are wonderful and part of her charm.

  • Your Lobotomy went well then??

  • You can't have any conception of the total, unreserved spiritual commitment that Cecilia has to her music. As must the whole of any musical instrument be involved in the sound composed within it so must Cecilia's "Very Being" be involved in her exquisite renditions. I do not accept your harsh and ignorant criticism of Cecilia and her Mother. Within themselves and each other they have nurtured the exquisite, unsurpassable beauty that is Cecilia, much to the unbridled pleasure of "my world".

  • Wow, well and beautifully put!!!

I love Cecilia too and I hate the criticism she recieves!!! I love this video and I love what you wrote!!!

    Thank you.

  • Thank you for your kind comments: this world is immeasurably richer graced as it is with Cecilia's exquisite presence.

  • thanks for posting this :)

  • I WANT TO BE THE BEST!!!

  • If that's a real real wish, deam right you're gonna be the piu best!!! at list, that's what cecilia's mom would say to you if she were your mom...

  • gracias por tu comentario!

  • If we could all have such a mother...to instill within us, not only the wisdom oftechnique, but that firm and unbending sense of self, and the belief in that self and all the many wonders it can accomplish...It is a gift so rarely given from mother to child, in America especially. And it is this particular lack that can be found at the root of quite nearly all the struggle and pain which plagues so many of us.

  • WOW!!! Congratulations !!!

  • meravigliose ;)

  • geloso?

  • sì!

  • I need a bartoli's mom in my house!!! I love her!!! wonderful!!

  • LOVE IT.........

  • i want a mama like this one please adopt me beatiful love it

  • I wish my mom was a singing teacher!

  • That was really cool! Thank you for this!

  • do you have any vidoee were your teaching more voice lessons?

  • Comment removed

  • Please please please mother, do you want to be my mother??? Please!...

  • SABIAS PALABRAS!!!

  • Nice Video! Download and save this youtube video to your harddrive with _youtubex.com_

  • Her enormous talent makes a lot more sense when you hear her mother...

  • What DVD is this???

  • Amazing mother!! no wonder she's one of the best!!

  • la adoro, y canta de maravilla

  • Her voice is bewitching!! and I really wish I could have a teacher like that, someone who cares,,,hard to find these days!

  • No wonder she´s one of the best. People who describes her like a "bitch" are the ones who (probably since she started singing) told her she "was not good enough" just becouse she had that extra thing called will and talent. that got a name. ENVY. Thank god she had a mother who not only knows about singing, but about life too! God bless her..

  • Gosh, but that woman glances like a mad person, just look at her when she says "You have to be the best"... Poor Cecilia !

  • omg ...no wonder she's such a bitch.

  • Cecilia? I bet you never met her, or you wouldn´t think (and unfortunately say) that. Go and inform yourself before you judge.

  • Do you refer to my posting? Do _you_ know Cecilia?

  • Agreed... I'd rather not have a mom like that:). I bet I wouldn't love music today if I'd had one of those.

  • ??? I think, Cecilia's mother is wonderful, she not only managed to teach Cecilia how to use her wonderful voice, but she also achieved that Cecilia could stay herself. And Cecilia's true love for her mother shows that they were and are perfect for another. As teacher and student and as mother and daughter. I really admire Silvana and appreciate her life.

    Ah, gracias suegra!!!

  • Just purchase this DVD, if you're a singer or interested in classical singing- it's MUST!

  • From what DVD was this video taken?

  • This video was taken from the DVD "Cecilia Bartoli- A Portrait", and I highly recommend to buy it!

  • oooh awsome :D thats so sweet seeing Cecilia being coached by her mother :D

    Thanks!

  • WOW, Cecilia actually hits F6 in here

  • thos were some high notes she reached they are my highest notes well a little lower than my highest

  • <
