@dickiekaplan No. Drumming is for the most part, impossible with one stick, unless a beat just needs the snare (loudest drum) and bass drum (big round thing at the bottom hit with a bass pedal). What may have mislead you is that Dennis drums on a right handed kit, but hits the hi-hat with his left hand, and the snare with his right. Usually, a drummer crosses his hands, and does the opposite. In fact, all drummers do. Dennis wasn't given proper lessons and learned to play on his own.
@dickiekaplan It is quite evident that Dennis has NO drumstick in his right hand especially @ 1:49 & also I see NO hi-hat cymbals either Even if Dennis plays drums incorrectly he has one drumstick or dropped it somewhere during this Again I say but not finding fault as I think this is great to enjoy watching regardless of what is transpiring. Air guitars missing mikes no amps, no amplifiers, no cords on guitars, no one playing lead, & Dennis is air drumming...Love Carl giving Mike a dirty look!
@dickiekaplan Dennis is too far away from the bass drum, & he IS NOT moving his right leg on a foot pedal, nor his left leg on a hi-hat pedal...'cause it ain't there... It is a staged performance. I see one cord going to Mike's microphone. I think Carl gave Mike a dirty look, as he could hear him singing, but no one else had a microphone...Hawthorne, California's finest group, & America's oldest R&R band!
Dennis suggested "The Beach Boys" name, & was the ONLY one who surfed.
David Marks was actually better on lead guitar initially, than Carl. Murry wanted Carl to be the lead guitarist, & David on rhythm...David taught Carl the "Chuck Berry" style of play.
Note that no one is playing lead, no cords, no amps. Dennis appears to have only one drumstick (and certainly is not playing the drums!). Their vocals are pre-recorded. Roger Christian (host of this show), co-wrote the hot rod Beach Boy songs.
R.I.P. Mr. Christian! Geat early vid, & very clear video!!! "Surfin'Safari" was initially the "B" side of the "A" side "409!" single 45 - released by Capital records! Pendelton shirts, t-shirts, dirty white jeans, loafers, & white socks!
Note that no one is playing lead, no cords, no amps. Dennis appears to have only one drumstick (and certainly is not playing the drums!). Their vocals are pre-recorded. Roger Christian (host of this show), co-wrote the hot rod Beach Boy songs.

Hmmm!!!...wonder whatever happened to David Marks? Looks liked he fit in perfectly with the Beach Boys as he had that "California surfer look". Too bad that the father didn't listen to Brian when they were together as Brian had that excellent falsetto voice and great musical talent.
@tomk1tl I've just read a biograpgy about David Marks. It was very interesting. He got an offer to join Paul Revere & The Raiders and he almost became a member of Delaney & Bonnie & Friends. And he looked much cooler than Alan Jardine as well
@SixtiesPopGold3 he is going to rejoin the Beach Boys for their 50th anniversary tour and album. He has been on and off with the Beach Boys since Carl's death.
@tomk1tl David Is BACK With The Beach Boys Now!! And They Will Me Going On Tour This Year!!!! 50th Anniversary Brian Will Be There To Present To WILSON Boys!! RIP Carl And Dennis! <3
@tomk1tl Well if you're still interested to know, David is back with the band for the 50th Anniversary tour. Of course, Dave remained on good terms with the BB and used to join them sporadically on tour in the 90s (I think when Carl started getting really sick).
Yeah just what I said "drugs aren't good for some people. I still have know problem with him taking drugs. You live and you learn. I guess you should believe everything you read in British Rags.
this is so fab!! 60s Pop Gold I have been waiting like up to 30 yrs. to see & hear some of this stuff---You are the king!!
This one--isnt this while they were still called the Pendletones & has neighbor David Marks on rhythm? If I'm not mistaken this is the clip described by Marshall Crenshaw in his excellent and absoloutely indespensable "Hollywood Rock"
Pendleton wool shirts were what was worn --if anything--by the primitave pre-wetsuit surfers of the day hence the name.
@ph4720631 No, they were The Beach Boys at this point. "Surfin' Safari" was their follow up to "Surfin'" which was also credited to The Beach Boys. The only "Pendletone" recordings are the songs they recorded for Hite & Dorinda Morgan and THAT version of Surfin' Safari had different lyrics. This clip is from a documentary called "One Man's Dream" and was done to raise awareness of a new youth center in Azuza, CA. Roger Christian was the "host" of the documentary.
@spacepatrolman Thats all a matter of opinion. I like the fact that Brian took drugs (then) his only problem is that drugs like the drink isn't good for some people...they don't know when to STOP..Now Mike's problem has always been shooting off his mouth and Carl was as it says on his grave "The Voice Of The Angels".
@rocksinger45 I dont know why you like the fact that brian took drugs it triggered a life of mental illness and psychiatrist bills mike ended up with more money even though he wrote less songs
@spacepatrolman Please reread what I wrote, "his only problem is that drugs like the drink isn't good for some people'. Now can you tell me for sure that with or without drugs Brian's problem would't have happen. At the time when he quit turing he was under great pressure and you (I don't know you) aren't a psychiatrist ..me neither but from what I read about Murray Wilson, Brian was heading for a train wreck.
@rocksinger45 brian said that takeing drugs was the biggest mistake he ever made it was on the front page of a british magazine he wrote a song just say no
@CenaTv2 They are. Carl is fifteen and David Marks is only thirteen. The only person here in their twenties, is Mike. Mike, does not look young. Mike looks like the bald prick that he is.
