I liked the film but, I can't see having a stupid bar fight added that just took too long and didn't seem to add to anything to the rest of the film. Every scene just seemed to have one takes.
What happened to "Arizona Morning" when the opening credits roll? When they change music like that its like a completely different movie! This song sucks compared to the original song. Leave things alone!
This is one of my favorite Peckinpah films and it has some of Steve McQueen's best acting, IMO. I never get tired of watching the opening credit sequence of "Junior Bonner." Thanks for uploading it! I wish I could find the song that plays during the opening credits. ("Bound To Be Back Again" by Alex Taylor) It's pretty hard to find and has never been issued on CD at all, as far as I know.
jim hill is the rodeo clown during opening scenes. i got to meet him tonight. what a great guy. he got 3 ribs broken when the bull kicked him during opening credits.
like the intro the sound of the cow bell etc ... This an incredible suspens because during all the movie you have this scene in mind with the hand of steeve prisonner of the rope and at the end when he win he will have to get down of the bull ! this is not finish !!!!!!
Terrific subtle nuanced performance by McQueen. A sleeper among all of Sam's violent films. McQueen at his most vulnerable soft-spoken roles as a rodeo cowboy kicking around the Southwest. Filmed in northern Az.
Probably one of the most underrated films in the past 35 years or so.
Mc Queen puts in a great performance...in my opinion one of the signs of a truly great actor is when even with a big notable name you still forget his big name and actually believe this guy is the character he is playing. This film is something you rarely even see in a Hollywood production, especially today, subtlety and a decent storyline .
5 stars. You don't have to like bull riding to enjoy it either.
I love this movie to by Sam Peckinpah and fell in love with Barbara Leigh who played the Love interest in this movie.
Years later after seeing this movie I had the honour to met and work with Robert Preston and for the past year or so have been good friends with Barbara Leigh who is such a lovely women in Heart and Soul !
I am always telling people who know The Wild Bunch or Bring the Head of Alfredo Garcia, do you know Junior Bonner?
Peckinpah is famous for his marvelous treatment of violence, but here he returns to his favorite themes (the spiritual beauty of an anarchic life, the encroachment of "modern civilization" -- really barbarism, the stoical code, natural life versus the vulgar new consumerist crappiness, etc.) and look what get -- another gem!
thank you for posting this clip. it is greatly appreciated. this is one of the best steve mcqueen films. it is also one of the best sam peckenpah films. mcqueen as junior bonner is one of the best performances ever...by anyone. you forget you are watching mcq and start relating to his character. thanks again. your friend, john

Didja know Altman and Sam were born but 1 day apart??

I wish Sam had used Gene Clark's RODEO RIDER in this movie---he used a dillard & clark song in GETAWAY

This could be the most under rated film of Steve McQueen career.

A beautiful performance by Steve Mcqueen showing a softer more caring side.
One of his best performances in my opinion.
Gotta love Steve.

I agree. It's such an overlooked film. Thanks for your comment.

@mwoldin He still managed to throw in an utterly ridiculous bar room fight, just couldn't stop himself.
