  • you talk to them like a kid

  • you talk to them like a baby

  • "Pretty Elapids... They lose their lustre a little bit when they're hanging off your fingertips."

A partial quote, I know, but nicely put :)

  • How is Ms. Twitchy Taipan?

  • @Truthseeker4449 Very twitchy these days...she did not like moving.

  • Nice work on this, me and my brother found the first part funny

  • I think sniffles is trying to tell you he's vegan. You know corn snakes are vegan, right? They only eat corn...

  • @akonitony2 dumbest thing i have ever read...juuust sayin!

  • Does the Death Adder Strike much faster??

  • @KMLols I don't know, I don't have the equipment to measure it.

  • thats why i feed outside cages. Tho i dont have hots i keep a ball and a corn and some others haha

  • i don't mean to correct you or anything because you know you're stuff well but with boiga dendrophila.. their venom isn't really that potent though.. yes their rear fanged but fatalities have only come from severe allergic reactions.. I've heard that more often than not, these colubrids just give the sterotypical severe swelling among other things.. and for the record she's incredibly gorgeous. and i love watching your Bitis gabonica

  • @clovaclove I'm glad you didn't mean to correct me,because you're wrong. Their venom is as potient as many venomous front fanged snakes, just they don't have and efficient way of delivering it.

  • @viperkeeper Thank you for getting this straight. I was going to tell clovaclove to let one chew a little and see what he thinks about potency. I can remember feeding dozens of baby trees pinkies all day long about 15 years ago. Used to play "workin' at the carwash" in the background.

  • k nice

  • Do you ever blow on your snakes? Let them smell your breath? I do that with dogs I work with.

I would think that snakes react to light, temperature, taste, vibration - not so sure about sound. Of course I could also be very ignorant!

  • @minnesotajz : No, I don't think they like that. What I will do is rub a clean hook on my arm then let them taste it themselves. Then when I really trust them and have a relationship I will let some, not all tongue flick my arm directly.

  • The avatar snake!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Sniffs and you have a routine do ya. You mean sniffs is getting your routine down. To know the exact time to?

  • Hey Al,

Nice intro, would you think a mangrove or false water cobra would be best for a beginner? Also do you use live plants? couldn't tell

    Thanks,

    JB

  • I can't really say. I have not kept FWC's but I do know they both have potien venom if they get it in you.

    No, silk plants are used.

  • @viperkeeper Hey, great vid, sniffs is good at being funny with feeding. and the mamba really chugs the mice!. one question. i have a juvenile Boiga dendrophila and it has worms. not many, but still, worms. what would you reccomend as a dewormer. my father is a veteranarian and knows how to treat worms in other animals, but is at a loss for what drug to administer. please tell me what i can use. thanks!

  • @Dannybroadsword1 Fenbendazole (Panacur®). 50mg/kg

I inject it into the food, once a week for 3 wks usually does it. Don't use Ivermectin.

  • Hey Mr. Viperkeeper. I just hava a question to some phrases u said about the speed of some snakes. is it true that the lil´ Taipan is about 125mp/h fast? Or did I misunderstood that? Please apologize my bad English Germany calling ;)

  • Your written english is better than many Americans.

Taipans are fast but no where's near that fast... just a few meters per second.

  • Wow that's the same question i was gonna ask. Too bad, all the prettiest snakes to me are the venomous ones..

Thanks for the great vids Al, you are the guy that convinced me not to get so many of these snakes. For now I'll just stick with my super venomous and deadly Hognose : )

  • So, Mangrove would not make a great pet snake?

  • Not really

  • @godandie actually, it depends. some do have a nice temper and they're not unpredictable snakes. i live in indonesia and i have found a tame wild mangrove snakes many times before. but, they do have a long strike range, almost 3/4 of their body. so it's only recommended for experienced keepers

  • what snake have u had the longest

  • King Cobra at 11 feet

  • do u have any antivenoms for these snakes in the event u do get bitin

  • Yes, for most of them.

  • lmao love the music an vid mix at the start, spot on al

  • Thanks mate :-)

  • could they hurt themselves if they bit the forceps??

  • Well sure...Duh!

  • that rat sniffs has has some big balls

  • Go and bite a metal object at 100MPH....I want you to lunge at it then close you're mouth shut as fast as possible....

Tell me how it fealt, ok???

Nice Mangrove snake.....One of Indonesia's most beautiful Colubrids

  • great vid :) i subd :D. what camera do you use?

  • Sony DHC-96

  • cool :). i have a sony cant remember wat it is. but it was playing up recently with my sony vegas but i fixed it :) mine is a newer one than urs. canny remember the model. but urs is realy nice qquality. you should try uploading it in 1280 by 720 resalution that would look realy nice :)

  • It doesn't cut it at higher resolutions.

  • aw that sux :(

  • pause at 00:37

  • I stopped at 35, 36,37,38 and didn't see anything of interest.

  • That Green Mamba is a beauty !!!

  • could a mangrove snake kill a human

  • Anything is possible

  • I love them western green mambas, truly stunning and those eyes are so cute when they're young.

  • IT iS A GABON SNAKE NO?

  • Rhino Viper

    Bitis nasicornis

  • OMG!

  • It's a common warning that snakes do.

  • You should get a set of those long sheers like they use to trim the hedges with the long handles. That way your hand goes no where near Sniffs. LOL

    Great video again Al.

  • do you have anything for sale currently?

  • Nothing you can legally buy in AZ

  • could you do a feeding video of your mangrove snake please?

  • Not much to see. I throw in a few fuzzies and they're gone the next morning...sorry.

  • Rhino Viper

  • I think we are going to need a bigger bag...

  • I love the Dendrophila, would definitely like to acquire one...clearly they are incredibly defensive.

    D.Viridis is also stunning.

  • Great vid, and good job with that king!

  • begging for a new years special! - pleeaaaase! ;)

  • how mani western greens do you have at this time? just wonfering cus i see alot of differnt onees in your vids

  • where do you get those fake plants from the only ones i find are gay

  • are they rescue snakes?

  • I seldom do any rescues, since the legal system is involved. They never have a clue on what's right for the snakes involved.

  • what store do u buy ure mice from and where do u get ure snakes?

  • I buy my rodents from "rodent pro" dot com

  • Lovely looking Mangrove... Then again all your snakes are lovely looking...

Having had a Hydrodynastes gigas for a while, i'm looking to keep a mangrove.

Another interesting Vid, Keep up the good work

  • Hi Al,

Love the Mangrove, do u keep any other rear fanged species?

Also, how come u use the tube and bag method rather than a snake bin?

    Cheers

  • Not usually. Didn't have a bin for it.

  • I've heard that from other people, but I don't buy it. Doing that gets you a snake which goes into feeding mode every time you try to take it out of its cage -- and which remains in feeding mode when you are trying to put it back in.

(I don't keep hots, but I do have a 125lb.+ albino Burm. Good luck getting her in and out of a feeding tank when she's hungry... )

  • RearAdmiral?

  • Al-ism for a tendency to be drawn to butts

  • i got 2 cages from herpcages and the edges were unexpectedly sharp when i tried to take the sheet of the plastic it cut me somehow. by the way the reason i bring this up is you mentioned them in a previous video their pretty good.

  • Yes, I stand by that.. Did you contact them?

  • My uncle had a bunch of Mangroves back in the day.

My granny used to be in their habitat, cleaning and stuff.

This was back in the day when they were pretty new and there wasnt much info on them.

Good to see someone keeping them.

Last I heard they were quite considered docile as long as they considered it to be daytime?

To take the short road to my point: They werent considered venomous back in the day.

  • I have always known them to be foul and venomous.

  • Has any local news media ever done any stories on your work? IE, TV or newspapers? I would think you'd get a ton of "snake see-ers" wanting to gawk at your zoo....

  • That Taipan is STUNNING! You obviously take excellent care of her. Is she a wild import?

  • CBB 08

  • maybe sniff's like his food with some veg lol gd vid al

  • You mentioned that the Mangrove snake had an unpleasant musk! Do most snakes have a musk? Can you describe the musk of the Mangrove snake?

  • Ya know...I can't...It's just bad..not like a skunk bad...

Can you describe the smell of vomit...?

  • Yes I can...lactic!

  • No I meant vomit smells like parmesan cheese!

  • awesome video Al. love the herps.

  • george george george of the jungle strong as he can be....classic keep up the good work always good watching your snakes and your work

  • Again, amazing vid, you should bring out a viperkeeper magazine, would be awsome :P

i might buy it if u sent it over to great britan and it wasnt too expensive :D

  • There's many things I can do but the reptile community is very cheap. Take my one of a kind Calendar I'm selling. I'm still not at the "break-even" make and it's almost Januaruy.

  • realy like it viperkeeper.. music edited in it .. nice :) keep on!

  • Thanks for the Mangrove video. I've been wanting to see that for a while.

  • Please tell us how many years experience you have in keeping venomous snakes...

  • haha i thought only Aussies said "wig out"

    great vid!

  • Been saying that for years! Good slang!!

  • george george george of the jungle... that was fun =D

  • hey did santa bring you a cam for christmas? the zoom seems to be a lot better and i know that's been bothering you ... just seems to be better picture too. You don't hear much from me, I just watch, rate and move on but thought i would mention the better quality. enjoying your vids as always :)

  • No, same cams...

  • I like the look of the Mangrove. Black and yellow makes it look a real dangerous.

  • hey al, how do you like them pmherp cages? i love mine...

  • They are good cages.

  • Great Vid Al - really terrific! That King was like the energizer bunny...it just kept going and going. Man, he's a long one.

    - Fangkeeper (LOL)

  • awsome vid as always al

  • Cool vid man! that was sweet. Happy Hoidays!!

  • Nice job as always Al.

    Thanks!

  • Al, do you have antivenin for your PNG Taipan?

  • Yes, I would not have that species unless I had serum. You'd be very dead by the time some arrived from someplace that had it.

  • Good to hear. You are truly one of a kind. Would hate to read about you getting killed by one of the animals you keep. If it weren't for your videos, I would never see (and come to appreciate) many of the species you have shown us.

  • That was a really bad joke! Using the rat as George just made my day feel a little sadder.......LOL just kidden that was funny as hell! Have you ever put your hand on top of a cobra? Could you do that in an upcomming video, just to show those brave or stupid people how it's done properly.

  • Actually sniff's was playing the part of "george"

I've already done that...look throught some of my other videos.

  • where can i get a mangrove snake

  • nice use of the song

  • Thanks :-)

  • those are some awsome snakes.5*

  • Love the arrow on sniff's head. Business end here.

  • is she a coastal or inland taipan

  • Papuan Taipan

  • Guns are then semi-lethal

  • LOL I didn't know youtube videos could be 20 minutes long! awesome video! definently 5*****

  • Just curious what the advantage is to tubing into a bag? I would have thought it would be safer and easier to head the animal and place it in the bag bag.

  • Gives them the option of turning around and coming out at you with an open bag.

  • I hope you had a great Christmas Al! It is good to see Mr. Sniffles at it again. You did a great job getting the leaves out of his grip! :-)

  • What caging company is that mambas cage from @ 8:00
