  • Thich Nhat Hanh!! you're always heal the world.

  • in Buddism, we believe that VIOLENCE can't solve the problems or bring peace to anyone but also cause more killings, sufferings...

as Thich Nhat Hanh says: "It seems to me the war has not helped to reduce terrorism, it had created more anger, and violence, it had created more terrorists, so it's time to look deeply in order to find way to stop the war"

TRUE THAT, people in iraq, in afghanistan, etc... are getting angrier and angrier as long as US occupies in their lands.

    PEACE PLEASE! STOP WAR!

  • An inspirational guy.

  • wow what a great guy.

  • Do our leaders in the West actually get the notion of non-cooperation? Management of murderous corporate agendas is passive cooperation. Mr Obama has looked down on this notion of 'non-cooperation', calling it "progressive" with a sneer. Where then is his heart? Thay says here simply:"..when in touch with suffering, compassion arises...you will take action." Do we now need to direct the policy of Mr. Obama and the UK PM? It does seem so. So, shall we start with their war crimes?

  • @hanoi36quetoi: chứng tỏ bạn không bằng con chó :))

  • Beautiful video. Thich Nhat Hanh is one of the most important and influential human beings in the modern world. His words, his teachings, his messages are so incredibly important for the world to hear... someone who has seen the horrors of the world first hand, and yet is still able to preach his beautiful message of peace and compassion... we cannot take him for granted. Namaste.

  • The situation in Iraq is painful to bare. I want to be hopeful a true solution exists. Thich is right, we need to wake up. "We" meaning the world. Non-Dualism means one thing supports or creates another and we are all inter-connected. We are inter-being. What spirituality discipline of the middle east would derive so much hatred and death? With that being said, how can these Iraqi misinterpretations of the world not be the a contradiction to their religions?

  • why can't we ALL just sit down and have a nice cup of tea, or some kind of beverage of your choice, and just enjoy the momentary time we have on this beautiful world? Love, and harmony <3

  • -Watch for this communist guy!

  • great

  • If we can just wake up, all of us, not just the monks. It's the only chance we as the human race have to save our world. Find peace and end your suffering. Help others find peace and end their suffering.

  • This is a very good video. Thank you.

  • Sir.Thich Nhat Hanh is really a hero, who devoted his whole life to his people & his country and his belief. we respect him alot.

  • Jésus est le Chemin, la Vérité et la Vie : une personne !

  • Thich nhat Hanh is just a propaganda tool for the communist regime in Vietnam. A leader of anti-war movement in Vietnam war, he turned a blind eye to Hue massacre of 5,000 civilians by Vietcong in 1968 and Vietnam invasion and occupation of Cambodia in 1978. In 2005 and 2007 he returned to Vietnam to help the communist regime to improve its bad image for human rights violations and religious oppression so that Vietnam could gain permanent normal trade status with the US.

  • @tim666661 yes, of course. his exile in 1966 makes perfect sense now. and i really wouldn't bring up the massacre of 5,000 civilians by the VC until you've explained the massacre of hundreds of thousands of civilians by outside forces (i.e. NOT vietnamese armed forces) in a civil war (a massacre that continues from UXO). Not supporting either, just saying the what do you think the US was doing? Purging anyone friendly to the VC. The VC were doing the same.

  • This monk looks like master Yoda from Star Wars

  • In the past, prince Gautama did not intervene in political affair when he was a monk, because the enlightened Buddha Gautama knew clearly that men could not repaire the phenomenon world!

  • western buddhists generally use their version of the philosophy as a way of withdrawing from action. the genuine buddhists, the opposite. interesting the intro particularly and 3.25

  • The interviewer need to sit on the floor too. It is inappropriate to be sitting higher than a monk. He should sit down out of respect for the monk if he is not a buddhist. A buddhist would not do this sitting higher than a monk. Just a friendly critic.

  • I think so too, bad form on the part of the interviewer.

  • Ive asked Thai a few questions, got some really interesting answers, but Im thinking of asking him somthing very deep this year.

  • Monks do not carry begging bowls, that is known as alms bowls. Buddhism is one. Read up TIPITAKA The sacred book of the Buddhist. It means 3 baskets. It is also known as PALI CANON. It is divide into 3 main parts:

    1) Vinaya pitaka

    2) Sutta pitaka

    3) Abhidhamma pitaka

Without clear understanding of the dhamma, we may end up having wrong views. It will be a hindrance for our path of enlightenment

Some of the original teaching of he Buddha in TIPITAKA can be found on the internet

    1)

  • ok he said tick?

  • Yes, that's the way the rendering of the Vietnamese is pronounced in English, instead of "th-itch" - kinda weird, but so it is.

  • i can't believe the video spelled his name wrong!

    it's HANH .. not Hahn!!

    sniff!

  • Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful man

He is not a Buddha that feat is not necessary. I would place this man above the Lama.

I have read one of his books and while he did not say anything I did not already know you could feel his warmth and love come through the page.

  • Wow it's him!

  • thankyou Tay for reminding all of our task of love and compassion and action. peace ko shin

  • I wish Tich Nhaht Hanh would take Obama or McCanins place ha

  • toi tin o day co vietnamese...toi xin de nghi qui vi nao do giup do dich sang tieng viet noi dung vid nay ,,chan thanh cam on

  • I want to ask ThichNhatHanh what did he do when VietCong murdered 100 thousand+ people in Hue City (Tet 1968) and the mass killer HCMinh and the communist army killed millions Vietnamese people during 20 year bloody civil war??? I feel sorry for Vietnam since the communist took over . It is a corrupted systems, looting, mass murder and darkness.

HCM is in hell for at least 4000 years from now!

  • Gimme a break. You don't give a shit about the Vietamese.

  • World peace is a collaborative effort. No snowflake in an avalanche ever feels responsible.

  • sick very sick compassion love peace ko shin

  • Thich Nhat Hanh in his peace movement in Vietnam sought as its primary tenet to unite all the different buddhist community in one effort. They never chose side throughtout the war, helping rebuild villages and such in both the factions territories. For this they were suspected and harassed by both sides. It`s documented.

  • wow, that is very inspiring. Its ironic though, i only learned about Burma through watching Rambo 2008. I pray for these people and hope we all do too. God bless

  • Thank you so much for sharing this video!

  • A true messenger of peace. Do we listen? Do we elect leaders with this kind of wisdom?

  • Nice little interview with a real messenger of peace and compassion. Thanks for sharing this!

  • Thanks for sharing this video! It was an excellent interview. Although I do not know his age, he looks very healthy. I don't know whether he is older than Dala Lama.

  • Excellent interview. Haven't been able to find a good interview or even a documentary until now. :P

  • "Monks, this holy life is lived, not for the sake of deceiving people, not for the sake of inveigling people, not for the sake of the rewards of gain, offerings, & tribute, nor with the thought, 'Thus may people know me.' This holy life is lived for the sake of restraint & abandoning." (Itivuttaka)(Duk. I,8) (It. 28)

  • Nhat hanh and Chan Khong

    211. Others then do not make dear

for hard's the parting from them.

For whom there is no dear, undear

in them no bonds are found.

  • Thich Nhat Hanh is one of greatest spiritual teachers. May God Bless him.

    Namaste

  • @Elementality88 He is the devil.

  • @Elementality88 I can't Disagree with you on this!

May Peace be with you, my friend!

  • Thich Nhat Hanh he is the best! He has a retreat on here called Thich Nhat Hanh retreat. Go check it out its wonderful!

  • Monks can just get by by ignoring everything but with their awareness and compassion they are risking and sometimes taking their own lives to speak for the people.

  • Thank you so much for the interview. It's easy to ignore the suffering of others. Monks are supposed to practice non-attachment to the social world but with so much injustice in this world they have to speak up for the people. Monks in Burma are the only group of people that are courageous enough to speak up.

  • I'm reading his book:

    Old Path White Clouds

    About the Life of Buddha.

It's a really good book, if you want to learn more about Buddhism and it's teachings and Philosophy.

  • I've read the book Old Path White Cloud by Thich Nhat Hahn over and over ,probblaly more than 10 times. The more I read I learn something new that I can apply to my daily life every time.

  • Old Path White Cloud is a good read Gigastorm. Have you read "Zen Keys" by Thich? It gave me a very clear understanding of what Zazen is.

  • Not yet.

I'll have to get "Zen Keys" and read it.

I too learned a lot from reading "Old Path White Cloud"

  • My sentiment is same as Kuanyin123456. China is selling some of military arms to Burmese junta for below market price. China is also selling its "Military expertise" to Burma and claiming it is "non-lethal" to Burma. Left me speechless...

  • Thank you so much for posting this video. I too am so sad about the situation in Burma, and my thoughts and prayers are with those brave people.

  • What is regretful is that the Chinese regime are backing the fascist government of Burma. The Burmese showed themselves to be a people screaming out for change, for democracy, and ended up being beaten, tortured and disenfranchised by a cruel and dastardly regime. I pray for the monks and nuns and the general populace who brought to the world the predicament of this peaceful people.

  • So what have you done about the situation in Burma? What can we do? As Americans, Europeans, students, mothers, people who just care, what can we do to deepen our understanding of the situation in Burma and alleviate the suffering there? It seems like those who have commented here are all very knowledgeable Buddhists, and aligned with the idea of Action Dharma/ Engaged Buddhism. So I ask you this.

  • Chants for change and

    peace not a war,

    Why support the violence,

    purchased at the store?

  • Many blessings many prayers

    such sadness and despair,

    Sadness tears and eyes

    that slowly fade away,

    Will we be mindful and

    see this non-violent change?

  • Buddhism is a heart melter when you clearly see the true power of compassion. Om mani padme hum.

  • I applogize to all the Buddhist on this page for my short comming in my approach. But sometimes I believe Buddhists are going up against force that is similar to the Maoism-"Power comes from the barrel of a gun" from all around...difficult for me not to defend someone I admire. I appologize.

  • If you do not change the thinking of the people, you cannot change the situation.

  • excellent, wise and inspiring.

  • avaaz(dot)org....SIGN A PETITION 4 THE PEOPLE OF BURMA, LET OTHER PEOPLE HAVE THE FREEDOMS YOU DO

  • I respect Thich Nhat Hanh greatly. I have several of his books.

  • its simply the principle of the good doing nothing which allows evil to win. a buddhist is aware of his surroundings. yes they consider the world "maya" all illusion. to a buddhist, by intervening they are actually adding to their karmic debt which they will have to work off later. this is a clear extent of their compassion.

  • the Buddhist sense of "detachment" comes from the belief that every action they perform while in this world carries karma. they would rather avoid becoming involved in the world and rather meditate on their own advancement. yes, buddhists usually dont do this- but sometimes you cant sit still and do nothing while everything around you is falling apart.

  • @iLuvMargarita Part of being Buddhist is taking responsibility for your own life. As he said, once you experience the suffering from inside, it becomes impossible now to be aware of the suffering on the outside. Buddhists don't pray to someone somewhere, they pray to their inner Buddha Nature to empower themselves to take the actions necessary to make things change for the better and make a cause that changes their Karma at the same time..

  • @iLuvMargarita

You dont know half of what you are talking about.

Thich Nhat Hanh was protesting all during the Vietnam war, not just sitting there!

  • To:makinlis- Your opinion is based upon flawed logic. You see nothing in Tibet to prove your doubt in Buddhism but your own contradiction. I'm not practicing Buddhist but my acquired knowledge of belief doesn't prepare me to see the decent Buddhist being disrespected by others own ignorance. Please don't use Buddhist's non-confrontaional nature to your advantage. It is only the reflection of your own flaws.

  • Nonattachment does not mean noninvolvement, it simply means that one does hold onto emotions, possesions or concepts. The Buddhist concept of right action is certainly covered under this political involvement.

  • I agree totally.

  • Please re-play the Youtube video and listen to the words of Thich Nhat Hanh with the intention of understanding and an open mind and heart.

  • This a very good interview.I remind us of an example of Buddhist peaceful action against violence and oppression. Thank your for your posting. Thai Uyen 22/10/07

  • this is an example to follow: political conscience born from compassion, religious political activity without fanatism, revolution with calmness and peace.

  • this video needs to be shown on mainstream media! Thank you for posting it.

  • Change & Experience

  • I met him and stood right next to him!!!!!!

  • Excellent interview. Thank you for posting it!

  • Buddhists in action. It is a little foreign to Americans who have studied a bit about Buddhism. It reminds me of Mahatma Ghandi and Martin Luther King - peaceful resistance. There are many of us here on YouTube who know the majority of Americans are only interested in protecting the status quo. There has been talk of violence. Trying to end a war with violence is an oxymoron.

  • Thank you for adding this interview!!

Doing a group project on Thich Nhat Hanh for a Comparative Religious Ethics course. Haven't been able to find a good interview or even a documentary until now.

    Thank you again!

  • Thank you for adding this interview.

    Thank you again.

  • Very moving

  • Thank you From The Tibetan Photo Project

  • Wake up you sleepy heads! Get up get out of the bed of dung you're laying in. Wake up and wake up your politicans tell them 'All we are saying is you tried your way and it hasn't worked now let us give peace a chance.'

  • May all sentient beings find release from suffering.

  • nhat hanh

  • May all beings be well and happy, even those who trespass against their fellow human beings.

  • Getting to understanding and learning what is important to others will help us get along better.

  • man i wish the world would come together, i wish all the countrys would get together and have a huge huka filled with weed, that would really be great for our countries all coming together
