  • he sounds like the cookie moster now

  • hahaha cold conspirators

  • its co-conspirators.

  • great song!!

  • You Call The Cops On The Looters and Pie Throwers, you call it class war i call it cold conspiritors!

  • lol its co-conspirators

  • alow me to put the first REAL comment. i love this band, i cant wait to go see them and sing along AND understand the lyrics. not all teenagers are as stupid as you think!

  • i will rock this song till the day alive!

  • Screw you all for arguing.

    its youtube damnit.

    enjoy the kickass song.

  • Look! "real" punks, fighting over youtube about what's punk and what isn't!

    pathetic, to be honest.

  • fuck this. tom used to be a crusty as fuck punk playing acoustic sets in people's basement. That is what folk music is. thats what punk music is. its music made by the people who listen to it. that is anarchy this is such bullshit playing on a fucking stage in front of all those kids who don't know shit what there singing. i'm all for getting big, but you can get big without selling out. Axle Rose and before against me was the epitome of anarcho-punk. there now a fucking corpse of a band.

  • chill out zealot, hes making great music, who cares where its played, theyre good songs and people are enjoying them

  • gosh all this folk hippie bullshit is boring

yeah im all for peace but fuck lets get some fucking action on this mother fucking planet

dont be a little pussy p.c. douche... gosh just like g.i.s.m. said, "endless blockades for the pussyfooter."

  • Ah I wish people would just shut the hell up whining and enjoy the performance. Seriously, grow up.

  • you know, i kind of get a slight inclination that this song was written to be taken more tongue in cheek than literally. i mean, early against me!, when it was just tom and then with kevin, those songs were obviously supporting anarchist ideals, but i think people take songs like baby i'm an anarchist! and those anarcho punks... a little too seriously. i don't know, maybe i'm just talking out of my ass.

  • yep

  • And even if we know that anarchy is a utopia how can someone turn his back and dont bother about anarchy when he know that this is the ideal system?Only if he is a spinless and party type idiot that doesnt care about the problems of the world. Its all about education. If people beiing educated the right way anarchy will be a reality.

  • Anarchy, lawlessness. This isn't utopia, this is mass murder, for the sake of murdering. I'm all for less gov't, i'm all for complete freedom. But some people in this bullshit world need to be babysat a little bit.

  • bunch of whiney babies, the lot of you.

  • i like this guy and it is great song. but it is not or ever will be punk. lyrical content does not equal punk.

  • music is music. dont be a whiney bitch about genres. the music is whatever it means to the person listening.

  • music is me boning your mom and her yelling my name. shut the fuck up

  • This is the farest thing from punk music, so stop calling these guys punk.

  • its funny seeing a crowd of kids who probabaly wore there obama t shirts and pins to school screaming about anarchy

this song was better when no one knew about it

  • amen.

  • seriously people in the crowd have no idea what they're singing...pathetic

  • how do you know they don't understand

  • call your momma and tell how stupid of a child you are... i hope you get herpies in your eye... i hope you get aids and die and then the next day the find a cure..

  • i'm sorry to see that you are an American.

    Dumb ass fuck!

  • haha at 0:46, that girl is picking her boogies

  • ahahah this is what happened to punk music. damn shame

  • this is what brought punk music back for me.

What is ur idea of good music?

  • i actually think that acoustic punk is great like swing life away by rise against and this song.

  • dude this is great, against me! are punk

  • You wouldn't know punk if it hit you in the face...

  • and you wouldn't know a scene of music if it fucked you up the ass

  • That's because he/she/it wouldn't be a punk..

  • the people on the crowd looks fag and stupid, fat grouppies singing about anarchy. This look pathetic

  • Anarchy is about freedom, liberty, and equality. Being an anarchist has nothing to do with how you look, its an activist way of life. I just don't see what your point is, just because the people in the crowd look stupid to you doesn't mean they aren't anarchists.

  • yeah i'm all for freedom peace and equality but it's just funny to see little 16 year olds singing about how they are anarchists, they probably don't even know what anarchy means...

  • dude there singing the song but not about them, its like they're agreeing with Tom Gabel have u even been to a concert?...

  • this bores me, tom isn't good without the rest of against me! in my opinion

and plus this just doesn't have the punch it had on the album

  • fucking awesome song

  • this song definitely has some sarcasm but he is an anarchist

  • he is an anarchist? lmao

  • indeed he is

  • unique voice.

  • against me! was the name tom played under when he first started, so give him some credit.

  • Wow man, your so smart! great observation! NOT.

  • people in the crowd have no idea what they are singing

  • patriots always talk of dying for their country and never of killing for their country...

i just dont care about ppl who hate those who hate those who hate those who hate those who hate those who hate...those who hate something that someone likes...

  • Happy thanksgiving? :D

  • this song may be slightly sarcastic " the kill whitey" part as well as the reference to patriots and hypocrites

  • Ca c une vrai bonne toune punk anarchist

    A+

  • oui, j'aime beaucoup aussi. Cepenedant je ne sais pas quel sont les mots, je ne parle pas anglais!

  • i wish they only played songs like this still

  • great song, but all the little pasy faggots in the comments talkin about how they are anarchists now because they heard this song can fuck off with your failshit.

  • fuck new against me.

  • all those white kids yelled "KILL WHITEY!!!".

    ???

  • am 14 and love folk anarcho bands like this am getting more into anarchy though it give me the will to be myself though :)

  • Is anarcho really a word/genre? If it is, I like it. If its not, I like it. (to me this is just punk music. and dem fine punk music at that).

  • anarcho- is a prefix, not a word in and of itself.

  • ah, that explains why hs usage baffled me. haha i am an active anarchist and punk fanatic and i was like what--? how have i not encountered this before? haha

  • Du hast wohl den ziemlich starken Drang, dich beweisen zu müssen, brandonone. Armer Kerl!

  • Epic!

  • One year ago today! Fuck yeah!

Shouts to all the fine people I met from Indiana (Tim + Lina) and to the Georgia contigent (Moxie, Andres, and Bruce).

See us rocking out at 0:45, 1:02, 1:44, and me screaming in my Bruce's ear (sorry!) at 1:59.

  • HA! You guys are who I was referring to.

Good thing the internet is anonymous. ("._.)

  • I envy you in the utmost.

  • well i wont lie...this song has intruduced me to anarchie...now i live my life by it...WERE ALL HYPOCRITS!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Its anarchy, with a "y." And as an anarchist, i dont advise you live by this song. While it is awesome, its not a viable philosophy or lifestyle.

  • im completely cool with bands going big and stuff; why stop yourself from being successful? BUT understand the dissapointment of the people who were into them when they were small. They were signed to Plan it X, a verry punk rock label which promotes DIY music and DIY lifestyle. AM! had anarchist DIY messege to get out, but that becomes slightly hipocritical when you play at Starbucks-sponsored events (signed to warner bros). So its not that they got big, but they sold out their values

  • I don't mean to seem shallow, but some of those guys in that crowd are pretty damn hot.

  • Woooh!!! I was there. Most amazing show ever.

  • whoooooooo! Chicago!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • stupid youtube system...i cant paste them on a single comment

    but here are the lyrics!!!

    ehm...i mean THE AWESOME lyrics!!

    enjoy

and remember...we fight for freedom, for equality , for our survival against those who want us all quiet and pathetic

WE ARE NOT FUCKING ROBOTS and we wont act like them

  • Yeah but we all know the lyrics :P

This isnt a normal song. :P

    This is a fuckin anthem.

  • damn straight. and we will use it as one.

  • yes!

  • "Baby, I'm An Anarchist!"

    Through the best of times,

    Through the worst of times,

    Through Nixon and through Bush,

    Do you remember '36?

    We went our seperate ways.

    You fought for Stalin.

    I fought for freedom.

    You believe in authority.

    I believe in myself.

  • I'm a molotov cocktail.

    You're Dom Perignon.

Baby, what's that confused look in your eyes?

What I'm trying to say is that

    I burn down buildings

While you sit on a shelf inside of them.

    You call the cops

    On the looters and piethrowers.

    They call it class war,

    I call it co-conspirators.

  • 'Cause baby, I'm an anarchist,

    You're a spineless liberal.

We marched together for the eight-hour day

And held hands in the streets of Seattle,

But when it came time to throw bricks

    Through that Starbucks window,

    You left me all alone.

  • You watched in awe at the red, White, and blue on the fourth of july. While those fireworks were exploding, I was burning that fucker And stringing my black flag high, Eating the peanuts That the parties have tossed you In the back seat of your father's new Ford. You believe in the ballot, Believe in reform. You have faith in the elephant and jackass, And to you, solidarity's a four-letter word. We're all hypocrites, But you're a patriot
  • You thought I was only joking When I screamed "Kill Whitey!" At the top of my lungs At the cops in their cars And the men in their suits. No, I won't take your hand And marry the State. 'Cause baby, I'm an anarchist, You're a spineless liberal. We marched together for the eight-hour day And held hands in the streets of Seattle, But when it came time to throw bricks Through that Starbucks window, You left me all alone.
  • are there more videos frmo this show??? its amazing.

  • I'm not an anarchist (nor a liberal), but I LOVE to sing along to this band, this song especially. These guys straight up rock some ass off.

  • I love how every against me! video on youtube has this huge battle over if they "sold out" or not. if you didn't want against me! to get big, then you shouldn't have bought their albums, t's , misc. merch and gone to their shows. this is a capitalist society. music is a product (as a musician i know it hurts to say that). they wrote good music. now they make good money. ipso facto.

  • what about the fact they go from singing about anarchy to going out to rock the vote? that's selling out.

  • because since anarchy isnt really available out there as a choice, we must roll with what we have and try and do the best we can.

  • We can't all be 17 and idealistic forever.

  • yeah that kind of surprised me too, but deadelectromix is right. people are too ignorant to know how to run a democracy let alone comprehend anarchy. just take a look at these posts.

  • Tom Gabel's New EP Is amazing!

  • buddy man, the songs are great. but i don't like the echo effect and drum stuff. but i do like it.

  • Really? I thought it was a great choice doing it.

  • ya really. but i did like the back up vocal stuff. good songs.

  • look at the audience... what a bunch of douche bags who know nothing about anarchism

  • ok and either do you fag. Thier having a blast leave them alone you fucking douche bag.

  • so i take it you were one of the douche bags in the audience...

  • fuck you douchebag.

That show was a FREE show on thanksgiving night for anyone who brought in canned food to be donated for charity to help the unfortunate.

Anarchist or not, It was for a good purpose.

  • oooohhhh....that explains all the douchebags... im sorry. so what kind of canned food did you bring??

  • Against Me! put on an awesome show for anyone willing to throw a gesture of goodwill to others in the world. Your just a douchebag cause you WEREN'T at that show.

It doesnt matter for shit if the people there believed anything about Anarchism.

  • thank jesus... the best am! shows were the ones that i went to back when they played in front of 15 people... not 20,000 douchebags

  • i resent that.i am not a douchbag.sorry i never had the money to fly to florida and see them in a tiny pub for one night.

  • seriously dumbshit.

How would Against Me!, or any other band in the world, for that matter, get their message out if all they played were clubs of 15 people? about a quarter the bands i listen to came from seeing them live and performing with other bands i knew about already.

Your just another prick who listens to music when its unknown and hates it as soon as more than 25 people like it.

You should get over your ego.

You should like music for what it is, not its popularity.

    You're not cool.

  • maybe ur the dumbshit.... not me

  • Thankfully sum ppl get what its like being an artist. ppl need 2 shut the fuck up and stop calling them sellouts for making money. who gives half a fuck what they make. the message is still there

  • Oh. and for reference - this was at The Metro - one of the SMALLEST venues in Chicago. The only smaller one that is still considered a venue is The Pearl Room in Mokena. thats almost three hours away. So dont go prattling on about 20,000 douchebags.

    It was 1,000 people. tops.

    more likely about 500-600

  • oh how i just love making people angry over the internet... good shit.

oh and i didnt have a bad thing to say about am! so i dont know where you got off about me hating them.... its just annoying as hell when you see people who dont know shit about the roots... thats alls ims sayins...

question.. why are you so offended that im calling people douchebags?? are you one of em? or are you confident enough to not get worked up over comments on youtube?

  • No im offended cause I was at that show and I went cause i was glad that a band like AM! would play a show without pay to do some good.

If you dont hate them - i apologize for assuming. But then im going to get off on saying that fans dont need to know shit about the roots. If you enjoy it - power to ya! You dont need a music major to like dream theater, and you dont need to be an anarchist to like AM!

I went with two friends who had never even HEARD of AM and after that show - they loved em!

  • Your speaking all the right words..I totally agree with you and despise people who like a band as long as they have less than 100 fans. Scenesters they are.

  • I think the Vic Theatre is smaller. And the Fireside Bowl was the smallest, but I dont think it's there anymore. I havent lived in Chicago for 8 years, But I miss ALL the small venues.

  • I forgot about Vic Theatre.

but you meant the bowling alley right, Fireside Bowl? I dont think they do concerts anymore unfortunately. That sucks too. Its pretty close to where I live - its in Logan Square. Heh.

<3 Chi-Town. I cant imagine living anywhere else.

  • oh right because i forgot you can tell an anarchist by how they look.idiot. you have no idea of there political views or ideals.

  • so much douching going...it's great that you guys are hygienic!

  • love Reinventing Axl Rose and All there older stuff. Amazing song . strong lyrics, Tom Gabel is a genius.

  • kill city fuck you that whole album is a fuckin masterpiece

  • Dude, New Wave sucks, particularly in comparison to their older stuff.

  • your right, but they are still awesome live, even new wave stuff

  • I heard some people saying that about Miley Cyrus' album the other day...

  • they're calling for wagon wheel not thrash unreal.

  • why wouldnt you just close your closet door?

  • wow i can't believe people are calling for thrash unreal....... that song is shit

  • It's better than anything else from that piece of shit album.

  • what about americans abroad and up the cuts?!

against me! pretty much died after reinventing.

    maybe even after crime.

  • I saw Against Me live a couple of years before they got huge, at this small club. When they played this song everyone in the crowd put their arms around each other and swayed back and forth... it's sad to see the difference in this video.

  • people lose sight of the songs meaning. when you play to a group of people who dont share the same views as you and just listen to the song cause it sounds cool, it changes things.

I just recently got into against me because of his anger in his lyrics and the meaning. and im faaarrr from a punk kid haha

they were amazing last night in detroit. one of the last few great punk bands

  • I'm addicted to this I keep coming back.

  • im bored =( 3

  • I just got into Against Me thru my best friend Dave. I like this song a bit, but i cant think of what he means by "solidarity is a four letter word"

PS - this was filmed at the Metro wasn't it?

That place has all the greatest fuckin punk shows. :]]

    go chi-town! :D

  • "four letter word" is a term used to describe curse's.... It's kind of an old term but if you think about it, it works. Solidarity is unity based on common goals.

So, Tom is saying,"To you Solidarity (unity based on common goals) is a four letter word (curse).

It is a basic yet very witty. Tom is a genius. Most people don't understand how hard it is to write something so smart and powerful.

  • Curse? You mean like a swear word? cause i can see that - i was about to say: "Curse? thats five letters dude." Lol.

  • yea... thats it.

  • i always thought he was talking about "love" being the four letter word. so it was kind of a shot at hippies who dont do anything but preach words but sit on the street

  • i definetly agree with the fact that if we as anarchists dont need to fight, we should'nt. However, if the pigs that try and stop our protests get in the way, we need to take them out. and if there are people out there wronging our country, i find no problem in destroying their buildings.

  • bloody hypocrites

  • badass

  • This is quite possibly the greatest thing I've seen in years. Against Me! is beyond under rated, they should have been the "arcade fire".

  • hey branden from the show in atlanta. who's up for road trip?

  • i love the debates betweeen what anarchy is.

there will always be a system. even in anarchy you need somthing to keep you safe. cross that bridge when you get there. until then just keep throwing bricks and burning flags.

  • I believe "the system" is natural.

An Anarchist society would eventually fragment into groups and regress into another type of power structure. Unless something else held the people together.

But that's Nationalism, and what replaces that in Anarchy?

  • i think natural instinct will replace it. we need a system of contracts.

like then if you commit a crime nobody will want to give you a contract and you will be forced to leave and start over.

human nature will allow us to be close with people, they say people are greedy, but really all we need is acceptance. if you can give us acceptance in terms of unity then people will have no need to be greedy, we'll have everything we've ever needed in our freinds.

  • I don't think the system is very natural. Native Americans were essentially anarchists, at least to the extent there were no prisons or cops.

Closely knit social bonds can enforce social norms. No one steals if it doesn't benefit them.

Division of labor, drive for profits, and the other aspects of modern capitalism keep us to independent for anarchy to work at the present time.

Until there's a social revolution, i agree, just keep breaking windows.

  • for sure. african tribes were basically anarchist communities as well. i think it can work if we stick to close-knit communities.

  • hey brandon

  • theres something about this song.. well all of their songs are fucking good but this one takes the fucking cake

  • I fucking love this song.

  • Ten years ago he was in a tape released by Crasshole, for the Anarcho Punk Federation. Against Me! was a one man band that just a dozen 'punks' knew. I was one of them because my band was in that very tape. I remember as if it were yesterday.

  • nice man.. music is life and the people are stronger then the hand that holds us down.

  • ya about 5 years ago i saw them in a laundromat back n gainsville and i thought "good music but its 2 bad they rnt goin any were" well i thought wrong

  • good post

  • ha yea now your quite a big kt tunstal fan.. what happened dude.> haha

  • Not that big, It happens. Good music, kind of Jake Burns in skirts.

  • wow this is absolutely the best video ive seen on youtube!

  • i think they are actually singing about the anarchist movement that is totally different then the modern view of anarchy that is chaos. The anarchist of old believed in self government or that of no formal orginization of government. They didn't want chaos they wanted absolute freedom. So "against me" could be singing about absolute freedom from an obressive conservative government.

  • SO GOOD!, wish I was there

  • anyone else have goosebumps? i miss the old stuff.

  • Here, here.

  • How ironic that Against Me! are signed to Sire, an imprint of Warner Music Group and distributed by Warner Bros., a specific corporation that the 1999 WTO Protests ("held hands in the streets of Seattle") targeted.

  • good crowd lol they seem to know all of the lyrics :D

  • such a good song.

  • Man, this is incredible. I wish I could be in a live show where everyone knew the lyrics to the song with all their fists pumped in the air..

  • man i love this song :)

  • What i thought was funny is how in the song he claims he is an anarchist, but is on such a big label.

Also what was funny is how he said happy thanksgiving.

  • I thought that was a little weird.. Then again, I wouldn't say having a big label and making lots of money precludes you being an Anarchist, nor does celebrating traditional festivals which are barely religious. I thought the fact that I can hardly imagine him burning down buildings and throwing rocks through windows was funnier.. He doesn't really seem like that kind of guy.

  • well thanks giving is an excuse for anyone to celebrate, like halloween and christmas. excuses to party, hang out with friends and have big dinners... or candy if its halloween.

also the big label thing. my favorite quote is "keeping it real doesn't pay the bills" but is there a way out record labels and still being able to do band stuff for a living? do we truly know the intrenal workings of that sort of business?... ill ask my brother he's majoring in it lol.

  • Maybe he coverted to anarcho-capitalism.

  • Anarchy (as of now) is a true democracy. Our government regulates everything. It shouldn't be this way, we all know we are not in a true democracy.

  • Anarchy is the lack of all government. Not only is it not democracy it is imposible. Man is greedy so anarchy like comunism although are great in theory, don't work in real life. I still believe in the smallest government possible though so I am a republican.
