5 years on and still this is absolute bullshit. Massa's nowhere fucking near him! I'd let this go, were it not for the fact that it's yet another example of how everything is weighted in Ferrari's favour whenever possible (ie. without a shit car). The irony is that Fernando now profits from it! Johnny Herbert DARED to give Felipe Massa a penalty at the weekend. He'll probably be banned from Ferrari International Assistance events for life now. And this crap happened at Monza. Oh, what a shock...
@azapro911 Is that tinfiol hat comfy for you? lol I seem to remember herbert being of of the stewards who voted in favor of penalizing massa at korea 2011. A penalty which negatively affected Ferrari *gasp*. Well herbert is still a steward and has not been banned by the evil FIA. But hey don't let these facts get in the way of your tinfiol hat conspiracies.
@azapro911 Oh and just out of curiosity how are you in a position to safley conclude that alonso didn't have any affect on massa's lap? Have you analyzed the telemetry? Have you looked at any sort of evidence whatsoever aside from visuals? Didn't think so. Right but ofcourse im supossed to believe you an armchair conspiracy theorist over ex racing driver stewards who have analyzed the actual lap telemetry...mmmmkk!
@aieljose Tinfoil? Armchairs? Alonso isn't blocking Massa, it's as simple as that. If he was, then every single car would be penalised during a Grand Prix qualifying session for running several hundred yards apart.
They have homosexualized F1. No one to say that what FIA has done that day, as they already did in the past ( I am not a fan of Alonso or Massa, on this, I am completely objective) is nothing more than a manipulation of the championship ? This is amazing , a driver with several hundreds meters advance and they find the way to say that Massa was blocked? Shame on you FIA, directed by illuminati (Mosley son of Nazis, Balestre waffen SS....) FIA has killed this sport
uumm people, what has the FIA got to do with this ? it was the stewards ruling at that time in the grandprix, no FIA members had anything to do with alonsos penalty ...
i hate alonso, but this is NOT blocking... Hes more than 6 or so car lengths in front of him, how in the hell is that blocking... Blocking is being slower on the racing line and forcing the car behind to slow down. Massa is just a fucking crybaby that cant win a championship.
A deserved penalty, although it was too severe. There is proof that Alonso blocked Massa, but since it wasn't deliberate - the penalty shoul've been less severe. ;)
I don't normally side with Alonso, but there is absolutely no way he blocked Massa. This is just another example of the ridiculous FIA favouring Ferrari over everyone else.
¡¡¡ Venga hombre !!!
also, massa barely caught alonso, so alonso was obviously just as quick as the ferrari. so based on that any car that goes the same speed as another is blocking... doesnt sound much like racing to me if thats the case. or is it just the fact that its monza, alonso beating schumacher and the fact a ferrari is involved
I still dont really understand what Alonso cud of done differently in this situation! Ooo yeah, does anyone know what is happening with Massa for this coming season? i would still love to see him win a title, thanks
Absolute bullshit. Massa is a douche. 100m behind causes minimal dirty air. I was at this race, on the right laterale stand, and at the time I could the gap was huge. Massa out - Kubica in. Forza Ferrari.
The view of the steward was this: Alonso had little to do, he was basically on his out lap (getting in the pit) and Massa on his hot lap (fast lap) so he should have get off the way to avoid any interference. Now; if it does follow the rule book, this is straightening them and certainly does not respect the spirit.
Ferrari was always kept on a lifeline by the FIA if they were on the backfoot of the championship deciding battle.....just like back in 1997, 1998 and 1999 when they were battling villeneuve and hakkinen.....They only listened when Ferrari appealed to decisions......I am no Alonso fan ,but fernando did nothing wrong here
ok....the fact is these cars are built for driving in clean air and because of that they creat massive turbulance out the back, much like an airplane does only the opposite because an f1 car produces downforce compared to lift force. so when a car gets within 1-1.5 seconds of the car in front he is therefore impeeded because the air is not flowing as smoothly over the following car, creating less downforce (cornering speed). therefore this "turbulance" meant massa had less gripin the final turn
This penalty was made by FIA because they prefer Schumacher was 2006 world champion, in any moment Alonso blockes Massa and if you see the video Massa doesn't get up her hand recrimining to Alonso that "blocking", only was a Todt' s strategy to quit points Alonso. Was a very dirty tactic from Ferrari and "maFIA " supports it, I hate FIA and Todt and now ... They are the same thing!! I prefer Stewart in FIA's presidence !!!
Alonso & Briatore were the biggest cheater in the F1 (Alonso still is and will be) but this was a bulshitt call. No question. Massa had a little bit dirty air of course but this he couls use it on the straight for more speed. This decision was crap..
Schumi was penalized for hitting JV in Jerez 97, when he stopped in Monaco 2006. and on some other occasions... Alonso wasn't guilty at all... dont make me cut out the part of a race buildup from ITV to see what the comments of other team managers and drivers are...numbnuts....
Another dirty Ferrari trick out of their bag. Nothing new. Schumacher needed some points to cut Alonso's lead..this is how they do it...usual...and Monaco 2006...Schumacher retired in 2006...you all want that kind of a sportsman back??? No thanks...as for Alonso, he paid them back by stealing their data a year later, lol...and to add up to all that, he and Massa are now teammates, where else than in Ferrari...ahahah...circus, i tell ya...
Complete bullshit. How many times was Shumi controversially penalized. And there are rules that apply to all. They cannot penalize Alonso for nothing.
i´m no alaonso friend, but this was very unfair but it has to say, in the race the action btw alonso and heidfeld, there he hadn´t been penalized^^, and he had a engine failure, so it doesn´t matter ^^
WTF is this all about!@!!! Alonso isn;t blocking anyone. Who the $%% Massa thinks he is? Flying Dutchman? Alonso is many many yards away from him. I think the problem is that Massa overestimated himself. Stupid penalty, although I am not a fan of Alonso. This is just catshit
Im a ferrari fan, but this penalty was ridiculous. If anything massa wouldve been faster down the straights, more than compensating for a slight loss in parabolica.
I think he got the penalty to make the championship closer between Alonso and Schumacher. Although Alonso had to start 10th and Schumacher 2nd, Alonso was able to reach 3rd place while Schumacher took the victory.
Luckily for FIA, Ecclestone, Ferrari we didn't see Alonso finish 3rd but retire 10 laps before the end with an engine failure.
oh c'mon... if turbulance was that severe, anybody in sight of another car would make a protest... this isn't blocking, no way in hell, how did all the other cars manage to post times?
they basically penalised alonso for being on the track at the same time as massa!
@FormulaOneFan4Eva Alonso has learnt, if you wanna decision to go your way then you need to be in the right coloured car. Btw i have nothing against ferrari ;)
@zemurph McLaren or Ferrari, in my (generally nonsensical) opinion both these teams get away with different things! I really think that Hamiltons season 2008 was blighted by poor stewards decisions while Kimi got away with rear ending poor Sutil- taking him out the race and taking away points for Force India (would it have been ther first ever points?) anywaze, would love to know if you think both the FIA and the race stewards conspire to keep the title race as close as possible? (penalties etc)
@aieljose - Dear God, two tenths? He was at least 2-3 seconds behind Alonso on the track, since when have you ever heard of turbulence affecting a car at that distance? Get real...
@FormulaOneFan4Eva The precedent was set at the nurburgring where Fisichella got the same ruling. The fact that it's the wrong precedent doesn't change the fact that the stewards were 100% consistent with the rules and they had no choice.

First of all what definition is established in rules for "blocking" in Qualifying!
There is a minimum gap to mantain! If not you get a certain penal/ .You can argue with rule NOT that FIA applied it.
Now you can ask if its stupid that massa asked for penal/
Did he really loose time because of Alonso? Therefore you need to look up how far a F1car needs to be in front of another so that there is no influence on his aerodynamic! Its A LOT.
that is BS, I dont like alonso because of 07', but that was utter crap! massa was no where near alonso, he wastnt gaining/ losing that much, if any performance from being behind him,
Fucking FIA are always behind Ferrari, I will never agree that this sport is really fair untill the FIA gets sorted out
The decision by the FIA was absolute bullsh*t in my opinion. You can't even see what car it is in front from the camera in this video... no way should Alonso have been blocked. It does amuse me though how, despite all the penalties given to the teams over recent years (e.g. Monza '06 or Spa '08 with the Hamilton, Raikkonen Bus Stop saga) Ferrari still get beaten overall in the championship =D
Its motorsport, in rally the drivers say that they cant go faster, formula 1 full of crybabys always complaining on other drivers and the cars, why cant they just say that ''I suck I dont now how to go faster''?
what the hell can someone please show me where that block was ? because with my eyes alonso was at least 3 seconds infront of massa throughout that lap :S its just ferrari wankers, same last year (2008) at spa with the hamilton/raikonnen incident, hamilton did everything right and raikonnen crashed out anyway so whats the big deal? i hate ferrari, viva la mclaren :)
yeah i know, alonso was well out of the way, and its good u mentioned the spa 08 incident coz after the race i was like wtf why they give lewis a penalty when raikkonen used the run off areas( after hamilton pased him) to gain a speed advantage during the end of the 2nd sector i believe
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
its not blocking. its impeding. massa is compromised through parabolica(last corner) in the dirty air of alonso. in the F1 rulebook it says as soon as a car on a hotlap comes close to a car on a outlap (which massa was) the car on an outlap has to move out the way. alonso didnt and couldnt because of the time left in the session. penalty unfortunate but deserved
alonso was a mile away i was expecting to c something like how sutil blocked webber u could fit a aircraft hanger between them thats curruption at work there ferrari hey we have some extra cash hello fia we have a wink wink for u if u get our drift
This clip was posted nearly 2 years ago after the now legendary "Hungarian Incident" between Alonso and Hamilton.
Each year after the start of the season and again after the Hungarian Grand Prix I see a bunch of comments come across, reminding me of how many folks out there LOVE Formula 1!
What a GREAT race we saw today! I was concerned about the reg changes, but after today's race, I think all is well with F1.
no way was he affected thorugh parabolica, if you watch Massa's others qual laps of Monza he never can keep the throttle going down through that corner like Schumi and Rubens could. this hasnt affected Alonso's reputation and quite rightly so.
Nope.... carbon fibre actually. And Monza isnt the fastest track, and the cars are so technically advanced that there is as about as much chance of a part breaking for no reason as there is a part falling off an aircraft at 40.000 feet.
casket of titanium ?? theyre not mobile coffins and they have a minimum weight limit. Its a carbon fibre monocoque. Monza has the highest top speed on the F1 calender, but its not the quickest track in the world. The wings and their associated parts are obviously engineered for the application, theyre not just going to randomly fall apart. god damn dude ...
he meant the turbulance created by alonsos car effected him through parabolica. the 2006 cars were especially sensitive to turbulance and the FIA had the data from massas car showing he had been affected through the corners
the problem for massa is that it is only allowed to slipstream another car in the race and not during the qualifications, which meant he had to slow dowm a little
you are wrong liobeking, it was that lap...one of the most incredible decisions in F1 history, a couple of months later FIA changed the rules because of that. now you only get a penalty when there is deliberate blocking.
where actually is the blocking?... stupid F.I.A

that is BS, I dont like alonso because of 07', but that was utter crap! massa was no where near alonso, he wastnt gaining/ losing that much, if any performance from being behind him,
Fucking FIA are always behind Ferrari, I will never agree that this sport is really fair untill the FIA gets sorted out

MazzaTello 2 years ago 2

A famous quote that Alonso will always be remembered for at 2:10
EmphaticItalic 2 years ago 3
Is that really what they called blocking? He's....not even close to him. At all. That's like phantom debris in NASCAR.
g3adidas09 2 years ago
yeah except nascar is crap
clyrenternal 2 years ago 3
It's not THAT bad. It used to be better, but it's not THAT bad. I wish they raced on more road courses though.
g3adidas09 2 years ago
You could say that F1 is more about the car than the driver.. but Luca Badoer is proving you need good car + good driver to suceed in F1...
Nascar tho.. i just think it must be really boring apart from the crashes...?

JamesFromNottingham 2 years ago 3
The decision by the FIA was absolute bullsh*t in my opinion. You can't even see what car it is in front from the camera in this video... no way should Alonso have been blocked. It does amuse me though how, despite all the penalties given to the teams over recent years (e.g. Monza '06 or Spa '08 with the Hamilton, Raikkonen Bus Stop saga) Ferrari still get beaten overall in the championship =D

Thats GOOD! that means we rule the sport and you get to be screwd up the arse.hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha

alonso was on a fast lap too, i think
chadvader93 2 years ago
Its motorsport, in rally the drivers say that they cant go faster, formula 1 full of crybabys always complaining on other drivers and the cars, why cant they just say that ''I suck I dont now how to go faster''?
92NB 2 years ago
Thats it. Simple as that. I dont like the liar Alonso, he is the same ass and will never be a good driver. But this penalty is a bullshit call.

what the hell can someone please show me where that block was ? because with my eyes alonso was at least 3 seconds infront of massa throughout that lap :S its just ferrari wankers, same last year (2008) at spa with the hamilton/raikonnen incident, hamilton did everything right and raikonnen crashed out anyway so whats the big deal? i hate ferrari, viva la mclaren :)
tgardner92 2 years ago
yeah i know, alonso was well out of the way, and its good u mentioned the spa 08 incident coz after the race i was like wtf why they give lewis a penalty when raikkonen used the run off areas( after hamilton pased him) to gain a speed advantage during the end of the 2nd sector i believe
beyblader10171 2 years ago
Even though I really don't like Alonso, that penalty was ridiculous. Blocking, blocking my arse!
stattotheblade 2 years ago 7
This comment has received too many negative votes show
its not blocking. its impeding. massa is compromised through parabolica(last corner) in the dirty air of alonso. in the F1 rulebook it says as soon as a car on a hotlap comes close to a car on a outlap (which massa was) the car on an outlap has to move out the way. alonso didnt and couldnt because of the time left in the session. penalty unfortunate but deserved

OLE, OLE, Alonso!

MAGIC ALONSO!

shareee08 2 years ago
as much as he deserves it, the renault has got nothing dude.
muddwell 2 years ago
no way was he affected thorugh parabolica, if you watch Massa's others qual laps of Monza he never can keep the throttle going down through that corner like Schumi and Rubens could. this hasnt affected Alonso's reputation and quite rightly so.
deancarr10 2 years ago
I've heard that Monza is the fastest track in the world and behind this is the most dangerous because in any moment a part of your car can brake.
These pilots are luck because the F1 cars are equiped with a casket of titanium that protecs them of any crash.
ConfederationAscorp 2 years ago
Nope.... carbon fibre actually. And Monza isnt the fastest track, and the cars are so technically advanced that there is as about as much chance of a part breaking for no reason as there is a part falling off an aircraft at 40.000 feet.
bmk139 2 years ago 2
Raikkonen in Bahrain, 2006?
TobHussey 2 years ago
casket of titanium ?? theyre not mobile coffins and they have a minimum weight limit. Its a carbon fibre monocoque. Monza has the highest top speed on the F1 calender, but its not the quickest track in the world. The wings and their associated parts are obviously engineered for the application, theyre not just going to randomly fall apart. god damn dude ...
muddwell 2 years ago
Now I see why Fred is so desperate to go to FIArrari!
dariusasimmons 3 years ago
I agree with you, hariel. Massa had to slow down his speed, espicially in Parabolica because of the slipstream from Alonso's car.
rshumi 3 years ago
Slipstream???? Did you just say slipstream?? Lmfao.
bmk139 2 years ago
he meant the turbulance created by alonsos car effected him through parabolica. the 2006 cars were especially sensitive to turbulance and the FIA had the data from massas car showing he had been affected through the corners
kkcrumbles 2 years ago
don't worry about that, Alonso's engine blews up in the race hahaha. the result is the same with penalty or without penalty
MikiCasanovas 3 years ago
where was he blocking ?? at the last corner were i could go flat he was lifting the throtle but he was far a way in my opinion
chosthitter123 3 years ago
the problem for massa is that it is only allowed to slipstream another car in the race and not during the qualifications, which meant he had to slow dowm a little

WTF, where's the blocking, shows the wrong lap, obviously it isn't about this lap.
liobeking 3 years ago
you are wrong liobeking, it was that lap...one of the most incredible decisions in F1 history, a couple of months later FIA changed the rules because of that. now you only get a penalty when there is deliberate blocking.
