They did not immediatly colonize the Indonesian archipelago.They did not dominate the Indonesian archipelago for 350 years, there was a Dutch presence in the archipelago. Slowly they became the dominant force in the archipelago, like a disease that slowly spreads through the body, and then spreading like wildfire.....Thats whats happened. They became the dominant force mostly by treachery and cunningness.

In the 17th and 18 Century the Dutch or the VOC only had most of the Moluccan islands and some important cities of coast of Java and Sumatra in their power.At first(between 17th en beginning 19th century) the Dutch-IndiËs or the area directly controlled by the Dutch was very small.That changed in the 19th century(mid 19th)

Everyone knows its about trade.....that the South Mollucas came directly under control of the Dutch because of that.But thats not the archipelago......What country? Indonesia came into existance at the end of the 19th and beginning of 20th century by the Dutch.

Only the south Mollucas came directly under Dutch control, thats not all of the Mollucas.

Nee.Dat verkregen ze juist door dat de Molukken in hun macht kwam. De Molukken waren erg belangrijk.De meeste specerijen kwamen daar vandaan. De Portugezen hadden eerst een vinger in die pap, pas later kwamen de Nederlanders. Door de Portugezen te verdrijven en direct handel te drijven met de Molukkers en later een direct controlle over de Molukse eilanden, werden ze de belangrijkste speler in die handel.

@4000marco In de 17de eeuw waren alleen de zuid Molukken en een aantal kustplaatjes in Java en Sumatra onder direct Nederlands bestuur. Nederland-Indië heeft pas na de 19de eeuw de omvang van het huidige Indonesië.

Het is niet dat het gehele archipel meteen in Nederlandse handen kwam, dat ging geleidelijk. Ze zijn daar heel slim te werk gegaan.

@MelanesianMerdeka Geef de VS maar de schuld, omdat de VS tegen (niet-Amerikaans)kolonialisme was(vanwege de ideologische cocurrentie met het communisme) dwongen ze middels de VN Nederlkand om tot een schikkking met de Republiek Indonesie te komen. Zonder die druk was er een betere overeenkomst geweest die de belangen van onder andere de molukkers(maar ook indo's en peranakan(chinezen)) beter had kunnen beschermen. Waarschijnlijk had men dan ook de invloed van Java binnen de staat beperkt
