  • I love this song. Itís great

  • i play this on piano. i sound like crap compared to her.

  • So beautiful.

  • There is a line that bothers me "Tell her to make me a cambric shirt/ Parsley, sage, rosemary and thyme/ without no seam or needlework" Without no seam? Would it be without a seam? without no seam means he want a seam/needlework on his shirt. I think that's not impossible to do....or am i wrong? Someone plz explain this to me!

  • @azulestars123 I think you mean song ^^ And OMG! I've read that book too! I recommend it to all my buddies :)

  • @azulestars123 haha i like that book its very intense and interesting

  • @azulestars123 That book is what brought me here :) I barely started it, but it's pretty good so far.

  • Really awesome voice for an awesome song

  • @ilSeerali It's actually not about a dying man, but it is written as a message to an ex girlfriend...the man in the song is saying that he will take her back if she performs a few impossible tasks for him, for example..."Tell her to make me a cambric shirt/ Parsley, sage, rosemary and thyme/ Without a seam or needle work......Tell her to wash it in yonder dry well/ Parsley, sage, rosemary and thyme/ Where water ne'er sprang, nor drop of rain fell"

  • @tcb19881 nice. really nice.

  • Oh, man. Now I need to get the image out that I pictured while listening to this

  • Beautiful. I used to sing this in Olympia Youth Chorus when I was a little girl.

  • This song does something to my soul, no matter who sings it. Its almost like watching ghosts from a very distant and sad past come to dance slowly before your eyes.

  • Yes, it's an old beautiful ballad, I like it so much !

  • Fallen in love with this song... Almost makes me cry... <3

  • @ilSeerali Who is singing: the man or woman? Isn't SHE the one who is dying and needs a camberic shirt? Or should the song go "SHE once was a true love of mine"

  • i could like to translate this to spanish.... how i do it

    or where i find it.....?

    i love how she sing

  • Scarborough = ? in french :/

  • @Lilinou35

Scarborough is a town in England :)

  • @prolaznica021 Ok thank you :) Verry beautiful !! I Love England (I'm near to England --> Bretagne)

  • I only need these lyrics, they're enough for me... this was completely beautiful

  • I wanna try to create a faster version :) with altered lyrics :D hopefully i can pull it off

  • @ilSeerali In one version, it is a warning, delivered to the desendents of a lass who scorned a fairy prince, and he warned that until the requirements the the song were met, all the girls of her line would be "a true love of mine". Until the the requirements were met, the girls would bear a curse-to concive a child and then die in childbirth before their 19th birthday-die, or sucumb to a drastic insanity. Personally, I like that version better, because it also tells how the last lass fixed it.

  • love this song! nya!

  • Actually this song was written to the listener. The man who wrote this song asked the listener to find his former lover (who is trying to get back with him) to do impossible tasks to win back his love such as sewing a shirt without a seam and then washing it in a dry well. and the refrain, Parsley, sage, rosemary and wine can not yet be explained but it is only seen in recent versions of this song.

  • @Wolfie8u oopsie meant Thyme not wine.

  • @Wolfie8u yeah i read that the "parsley, sage, rosemary, and thyme" used to be "Sober and grave grows merry in time" "Every rose grows merry with time" or "There's never a rose grows fairer with time"

  • Thumbs up, if you get lost in this song.. cause I do.

  • Im siginging this song for a solo on November 6th 2010 and i cant wait for it to come.

  • "The song tells the tale of a young man, who tells the listener to ask his former lover to perform for him a series of impossible tasks, such as making him a shirt without a seam and then washing it in a dry well, adding that if she completes these tasks he will take her back. Often the song is sung as a duet, with the woman then giving her lover a series of equally impossible tasks, promising to give him his seamless shirt once he has finished."

  • I must have heard this sung by dozens upon dozens of people... Hayley's voice is easily the best I've ever heard singing this.

  • @ilSeerali her name is hayley? thats a nice name :)

  • I would love for Lady Gaga to do a cover of this, then she should perform it in flamboyant Renaissance wear. This one is really good too, but I would love to see a pop version of this too.

  • This is awesome, thank you.

  • did u know there is a book called " impossibe" wich is about this song?? I read it a while ago and just came across this song, i never knew it really existed, WOW awesome :)

  • If you listen to the lyrics, she wants him to do things that are impossible to do, like make a cambric shirt for her with no needle work nor seam, in order for him to be her true love.

  • I know!!! It's kinda sad when she says "He once was a true love of mine"

  • i hope u know this is not there song its just a remake its very good

  • The greatest love song.

    composer unknown.

  • So beautiful.

  • u know, impossible is probably a good book, but the "impossible tasks" are stupid because they're not impossible. To make a shirt with no needle work or seam, tape the cloth. Cheap,, but will suffice, kinda cheating though. To plow a field with a goat horn and use only a single grain of corn to grow, just cut the corn into a million little pieces. After all they didn't say it had to grow. And the land between the sea thing, just buy an acre of land on an island. Easy as pie.

  • @ lalabeachbetty yeah between salt water and the sea strand? right sure your an idiot and island isn't between salt water and the sea strand. and you can easily weave the shirt, it has to be WEARABLE you know

  • the wool shirt thing i told LALABEACHBETTY works is wearable if not a lil' hot though

  • Umm, tape the cloth? Seeing as how that would still create a seam (where the two edges are taped together), that wouldn't work, now would it? And besides, it seems to me that you're missing the heart-wrenching romance of both the book and song.

  • Soak wool and kinda stick it together its not pretty but it works.

  • No to the first one soak wool in some way stick it together let it sit/dry it wont be pretty but it will work. For the corn and sand find a beach at low tide and smash the corn mix it with sand and spreadin sand..is it this version or another,,,oh well in one version it says plow with a goats horn attach the horn to a wheel barrel to plow then do the corn thing.

  • @Lalabeachbetty I agree with you. I really like the book (sorry I keep mentioning the book!!!), but it's obvious the tasks aren't impossible because they finish them.

  • When I go to try out for American Idol when I'm eighteen, This is so the song I'm going to sing -w-

    I've been practiceing everyday

  • Good luck!

  • @ArekkusuSeketsu good luck!!

  • @ArekkusuSeketsu Good luck!

  • @ArekkusuSeketsu good luck :)

  • @ArekkusuSeketsu ya know you can audition when your 15 now oh and do you have a vid of you singing the song i would very much like to hear you sing it

  • theres a book based off this song, its really good!

  • Oh yeah, Impossible by Nancy Werlin? I'm only half way through it but it is such a good book! Very sad, but it really does go deep into the real meaning of the song.

  • @dafizz0x0x The book is amazing! Everybody should read it!

  • yeah I read it in like 2 days, amazing book

  • @dafizz0x0x yeah IMPOSSIBLE!!!! I <3 that book

  • @xMonkeyClimbsx I love that book too!!!!! I just read it (as says my other comment!!!)

  • @dafizz0x0x the book is awesome (ugh, the book again!!!!!!!!!!!! i'm sooooo sorry!!! you guys are probably getting tired of my comments!! sorry! I just love the song sooo much!!!)

  • This is one of my favorite songs. I liked the orginal singers of Celtic Woman. I miss Hayley and Meav. I still like Celtic Woman thu and I will countine to listen to their music.

  • it sounds sad to me, its deep.... though it is beautiful :]

    <3 Amynn

  • ...0:00 To 3:14 More Than Beautiful...

  • hayley is an angel, or at least she has the voice of one :D

  • I never realized how much pain the one singing this song must be in. I used to identify with the person on the "receiving" end of this song, being told that you can only go back to your love if you complete tasks that you can never complete. Now that I have been hurt by my love, I understand the desire to be with her that this song represents, but the knowledge that you would only get hurt again, hence the impossible tasks.

  • I get what ur getting at but the tasks actually arent that hard

  • I'm singing this song for my solo in Honors Choir, I'm the only one who can sing this song, none of the soprano's can. XD I love this song, so simple, says a story, and a sad song in a way. Longing. . .

  • I'm learning this song in orchestra, I'm the only person that can sing to it. I love this song :) Sad but Heavenly :)

  • the music is soo beutiful heavenly and sad.:(

  • Am I the only person who thinks that this is a sad song?

  • Sooo lovely! Great job on this!

  • It´s wonderful! The rose is really beautiful!!!!

  • i love this song, it's simple and relaxing.

    hayley is awesome

for one of your first video it's great!!!

  • i love hayley <3

  • Enjoy!!
