  • Damn, this awesome!!

  • one of my favourite drum solos. love it.

  • pretty good

  • Does anyone know how to do this thing arround 5:16 ?

  • @saerdnaAR Triplets is the word u looking for! If you vibrate the drumstick on each tab, you should get the sound. Quite simply when you master the technique! The best tips is actually playing the drums a lot! Play, play, play, and you should get any sound you ever wanted! That the real secrets ;)

  • GOOD GOING''

  • @NoOscarjunior - You. Are. An. Idiot.

Ha! That woman, with NO penis, just kicked your drum-playing ass! And now may you die a slow, painful, cancerous death. On your tiny little penis! : )

    Cheers!

  • @CumulusSkies ;) LOL

  • Kicking ASS Hilary! A Pros Pro.

  • 53 dudes that can't stand being beat up by a real drummer, cuz saying a woman wouldn't sound good and has nothing to do with it since she is a great drummer, period.

  • WTF! GIRLS CAN´T PLAY DRUMS!! She must have a penis..

  • @NoOscarjunior Shut Up!! At least any girl can play better than you!

  • @SERCHSOS3722 Yeah that´s right! how the heck did u know that???? Are u stalking me??

  • @NoOscarjunior No. I just can deduce it.

  • cualquiera siempre hace lo mismo

  • lol 3:18 "I'll take that..."

  • the bit starting at 4:02 that's where she shines. she's got FUNK!

  • Brilliant musician by any measure. Fantastic ability to morph from pattern to pattern while retaining the almighty track beat. Clearly she loves drums and is more passionate about music than most of us. She's in the top 1%: mucho kudos for that.

  • I wish she was my mother

  • why did this come up from a George Kollias video? I mean, sure, she's not bad. But she's nowhere near as good as Kollias. Get your shit together Youtube.

  • What a talented drummer and she looks pretty as well.

  • @jomcbar1 Im hearing a 3 against 4 hats to kick while playing melodically in 6/8 on top. Another drummer who is very good at this combination and also happens to be female curiously enough is Vera Figarierdo. Listen to her video Chamame

  • Man at 1;28 is she keeping her hh foot on 6/8 while the base is 4/4? I normaly close with my hh foot for an offbeat against 4/4, but I can't get this groove down for the life of me.She plays polyrythems effortlessly!!!! Hiliary, you are AWESOME!!!!

  • Thats a weird looking kitchen O.0

  • @scarsontable thats a so fuckin odd joke... ass....

  • Hilary Jones is a great female drummer, but Cindy Blackman is the best!

  • subtile, class, in one word one of the best drum solos i've seen on youtube. good sound and good pictures.

    this IS music.

  • 52 dislikes from jealous dudes. That was an incredible performance, and the independence was insane.

  • This from modern drummer 2000 BTW not Drummer's Collective.

  • Nice when you get awesome talent and cuteness in the same package!

  • LONG LIVE TRIBAL TECH !!!

  • sounds like danny careys kit lol

  • Awesome talent! Wow

  • 4:49 esta bueno jaja

  • she made it seem so natural, like she feels in not just knows it

  • Needs more cowbell.

  • More lie a song with just drums. Something you can listen to more than once. : )

  • Bravo...brav....OH! That was so, so, so excellent! This woman is the max baby! I love it!

Amazes me how you get somebody good on a video like this and out come all the pseudo-expert jerks making comments like they know something about it. Ha!

This gal not only know the *hit, she plays it! And very damn well....thank you!

    Awesome!

  • @jimbad1 Agreed!

  • A chick version of Danny Carrey?

  • just finished watching george kollias... this is boring as fuck

  • @michaeldouw Obviously you care more about speed than musicality and feeling.

  • @RawkinOutt im a metalhead... what can i say?

  • got a little double kick in there at 3:43. nice

  • sorprendente, me encanta...

  • nice enough

  • I would like to see joey jordison or travis barker try to play that tasteful lol.She owns those posers.

  • She's got it ALL going on. She's worked very hard for years and I'll bet that she is light years better than anyone that has left a negative comment or given this video a thumbs down. If I'm wrong... we are all waiting for a video response of your playing to prove it.

  • Comment removed

  • @jmania21 YOU get a thumbs down. THAT'S what happens.

  • @jmania21 WOW! You say, "The one thing I don't like about women."

Would you like to go down the list and tell all of us what is the 1 thing you don't like about OTHER groups of people? Thanks so much for telling us all so much about yourself.

  • @jmania21 "This is the one thing i don't like about women" Then you follow on with something irrelevant. You're a fucking sexist, Stop trying to pretend you're not, 'cause you are. You're an unfunny, idiotic, sexist twat.

  • absolutely brilliant

  • There's got to be a penis hiding in there somewhere... Women aren't allowed to be good...

  • Excellent !

  • absolutely love ghost notes!

  • Wow, very good.

Me personally--I'm gonna download this video and play it back in slow motion so I can LEARN something.

All ye haters out there, let me ask you this: Why the jealousy? Tell you what, why don't you upload a video of YOU playing exactly what she's playing, note for note. And show us all how you can do that with your eyes closed.

  • Comment removed

  • Wow it's music !

  • Needs more cowbell.

  • I kept wondering when is she gonna hold her sticks right. She never did once.

  • @hueco52 Hey man, she came out of the Navy School of Music!!!! hello, Steve Gadd, Billy Cohbam, ring any bells? So, are you saying you are going to give Ms. Hillary Jones a drum lesson? Ignorance is no excuse, you should no better, learn some respect FOOL!!! I hope to gain half as much facility as Ms. Jones . . . so upload a video response if you will, of your correct technique?? Dork . . .

  • @thumppurrr

Dude, put your hash pipe down for a moment and listen up. Yes, I attended the Army-Navy-Marine Corp-Music School at Little Creek-Norfolk, VA. back in 1971. Goodby!

Match grip? Match grip is de-evolution. It should be called the "Neanderthal Grip". I thought it was invested by all cultures to evolve artistically.

Lessons? Maybe not me, but I'm sure Buddy could:

"Buddy Rich on why he doesn't use match grip"

  • @hueco52 Actually, the only reason traditional exists is because marching toms and snares were tilted at the time. French and German match grips are (and have always been) used in concert percussion because it is more even and technical. The only reason drumlines still use traditional is because A) their drums are tilted, or B) it looks cool. It is by no means "De-evolution."

Also, I have seen Buddy Rich's video about that and it is absolutely stupid. I actually lost respect when I saw it.

  • @hueco52 Also, I guess it should be pointed out that Buddy's traditional would have to be corrected if he were to ever march in a competition setting with a field judge, so I hope you aren't basing what you erroneously believe to be the "right way" off of him.

  • @skiddlecrumms

Buddy's comment in the video is right on. You use match grip only when playing timpani. The highest point of drumming evolution & techinque has always been the "left-hand roll: which all the great JAZZ DRUMMERS such as B. Rich, L. Bellson, E. Jones, J. Morello, & E. Shaghnessy were able to do. Marching? Well,....the greatest rudimental drummer was Frank Arsenaut who also used traditional grip. Yes, I am traditional all the way.....Hey man, to each his own.....I'm just saying.

  • @hueco52 I don't see why the left hand roll is the apex when you can get the exact same result from a gravity blast which can be done in match grip with either hand.

  • And no, you don't use match only on timpani. There is no concert instrument that uses traditional, and concert instruments predate both Buddy and the drum kit.

  • @skiddlecrumms

Oh. Ok, Actually, you use match when playing timpani, timbales, xylophone, or marimba. Traditional grip came about in England when the British Army commissoned bagpipe-fife & drum corps to accompany troops into battle. Slung over the right shoulder the standard "field drum" had a tendency to tilt to the right. This is when the technique of left hand cradle came about. Thigh rests were later added to give the field drum stability. Its just me but personally I perfer this set-up.

  • @hueco52 You use match grip for concert snare as well. The only justification beyond personal preference is if you have a tilted drum.

  • @skiddlecrumms

Me thinks I have been visiting this site too much. OK, let me put it this way. I would be embarrassed and maybe even a little ashamed to use the "neanderthal grip". It would indicate that I hadn't been schooled properly and that I probably couldn't find "one". Wasn't "Drumline" a great movie? And wasn't Mike Shrive's rendition in "Woodstock" the greatest rock drum solo ever performed? Again, I'll uphold the traditional method--tried, tested, and proven. I'm just saying.

  • @hueco52 Well, Drumline was an okay movie, but as for the playing and form, it was worse than watching a bunch of freshmen in highschool. Neither of us are going to change the other's opinion and the fact that you would even mention the movie Drumline makes me seriously doubt your credibility, so I think this should be where we let it die.

  • @skiddlecrumms

Yes, like talking to a fence post huh? I feel it is the person's perspective which is paramount here. I look at fads as a corruption of social values & traditions. Morally, I'm sure we all grew up knowing the difference between right & wrong. Sociologically, I see the more this country's values become corrupted the more social ills befall it--just check the lastest headlines. Tiny issues such as this eventually will have an impact on society yrs. down the road. To each his own.

  • @thumppurrr Ok, I am just saying, you have like a bunch of farm animals on your page, . . . where is you getten down with your traditional grip? And thank you for your service, but where is the video of you besting Ms. Hillary Jones with traditional, or at least matching it?

  • all i see is a bunch of negative comments with the exception of a few......probably a bunch of crappy drummers who are clearly jealous. solo was amazing, 47 haters lol.

  • I could of sworn that this isnt the oven ...

  • wow from 1:09 to 1:28 it sound like TOOLs the gurdge

  • Needs More Cowbell...

  • @Charsdx Thumbs up for Will Ferrell

  • Nice use of polyrhythms. Needs more cowbell.

  • Sorry for sayin' that but I have really naughty thoughts about her.

  • And im like ooooh yeah

  • Nice polyrythm. Her timing keep is pretty good.

  • She's got the flow - wow

  • @Americant47 hey man. u just allowed me to learn a new word. aw yea. expanding to a college vocabulary here i come.

  • Very crisp and controlled performance; but a little more humility and appreciation of the audience at the end would have gone a long way with me.

  • Yea she's iiiiiiight, they may as well put me in the drummers collective...lol jk I mean it was a pretty good solo dynamically and musically, some good melodic stuff, but idk there just weren't any WOW moments you usually get. But definitely s solid player.

  • Zaljubu sem se <3

  • ok this is diffcult...

  • 1:20 RAWR IMA EAT YOU!!!!

  • Why is it always something special when a girl/woman is playing drums ? I think its kind of (self)discremination. When a boy/man does a drumcover, and put it up on youtube, the titel is always something like 'Trivium-Tread The Floods (Drumcover)'. But when a girl/women does the same cover, the titel is almost every time something like 'UNBELIVEABLE A GIRL ON DRUMS !!!!' They/You are not only made for the kitchen.

    Grow up ._.

(Sry for my bad english :-/)

  • @neverlosingbilly drummers are more commonly male than female. that does not mean that women suck at drums. while men are better at sports than women (sorry, but its true), music equalizes men and women. personally, i think that she is incredible.

  • @Samax13

Yeah, she is awesome. I just say how it is. For mye its kinda normal, that girls are playin' drums. Its nothing special for me.

  • those toms sound goooooooooooooooooooooood

  • she learned all of that in the kitchen,

  • @space78511 pots n' pans bitches

  • @space78511 I love you.

  • Mad chops, this is hot

  • Lady can play the skits!

  • That guy stole her tambourine!

  • Now thats a groove. This is very cool.

  • One thing my male counterparts have forgotten...learning how to tune you drums is just as important as playing at 280 BPM.......and it ALWAYS sounds better....

  • @gsoltis29 Good tuning starts with bearing edges.

  • One of the most musical drum solos I have ever heard. I am a drummer but as a rule I dislike solos because most are just demonstrations of chops with no musical context. With a properly tuned kit and some musical sensitivity it is fairly easy to imply melody within a rhythm. This clip is an excellent example.

  • @clueless2all perfect example of that: Thomas Pridgen

    i cant stand his solo's

  • @clueless2all steve gadd is great example lol he doesnt use any difficult rudiments lol he plays simple rudements and licks with rhythm

  • Women behind drums = shit.

    It's a mens job.

  • brava!

  • Nice drummer! Does anyone knows which drum kit does she use?

  • @verygoodman91 very old school dw kit

  • @pierrect I agree. I've been trolling youtube trying to find badass chick drummers because I know all the best can't possibly be exclusively guys and so far I've found her and Meytal Cohen are my favorite.

  • Great solo, great sounding kit.

  • Great sound, tuning, and time signature with nice hi hat sync. Very subtle, musical, articulate and dynamic with excellent stick control, but a real snooze-fest by the end. I really wanted to like it more.

  • that solo make me fall to sleep....

  • Badass!

  • Raw yet sutle.nice energy!

  • nice musical solo : )

  • Love it, amazing sounding kit too.

  • 42 people are disgusting by clicking unlike :( She´s amazing and a good drummer

  • She's my Female Mentor!!!! anyday!

  • She's very good. My only thing to say is that she looks kinda nervous. I mean, I know everyone plays their own way, but it looks like she's not enjoying herself. That makes me kinda sad. I love to play my drums! It's sort of like watching Garibaldi. That guy can play, but he's one of the angriest looking dudes I've ever seen play funky drums. :p

  • @Tobota I'd be nervous if I was playing a solo at Drummers Collective as well... i'd say most humans would be.

  • Way better than Sheilia E

  • Good but not better than Shelia E... To me...

  • She truely is an inspiration for all females out there in a profession that is mostly male dominant. I would love to hear some male drummer comments rather than the negative comments, just to see what they do think about her drumming style. She obviously is playing to an audience and has someone to take the tamborine off the cymbal when its time. I have never heard of her before I saw this video, but will be doing a search for more of her. Great Performance!!!!!!!!!

  • NOICE (BORAT VOICE)

  • great seperation... danggg so good

  • ta q abrrido

  • She was wearing that watch the whole time so she could be sure she didn't burn dinner. This is not in a sexist manner, she's just SO FUCKING GOOD she can play that awesome shit AND cook! But really, though, don't mistake me, that's amazing.

  • สุดยอด มากเลย 5555 ชอบ ๆ

  • fucking amazing!!!!!!!

  • this is a great drum solo .... musical , great phrasing , dynamic ... and above all , interesting

  • So tasteful... amazing use of dynamics and musicality, notes in all the right places. Love it.

  • holy shit, honestly...wasn't expecting much from a chick (yeah a stupid generalization i know.)..but god damn this is good.

  • sos grosa sabelo¡¡¡

  • Hilary is a monster! The full performance is available from the MD 2000 DRUM festival from Hudson Music. Someone mentioned. Jason Bittner.... Bittner is not in her league...

  • I saw Hilary with Mike Stern and during a sound check they started messin' around with some Zepplin tunes. She turned into Bonham before my eyes....serious!

  • very nice

  • show!!very good!!!

  • good!!show!!

  • In a totally non-negative, even positive (if that's allowed) way...it *sounds* like a girl playing. Very elegant, nice.

  • Chicks With Sticks!

  • Great feel, great technique, great limb independence, great drumming! And of course also great looks. This is cool in so many ways.. :)

  • @Americant47

Oh, that's just silly. We're all entitled to our opinions. No one learns anything by just us all saying the same thing.

There were lots of positives there and a few negatives. You only want to hear the positives ??

    Sheesh.....

  • ...good stuff ,really enjoyd tht !!

  • you have Great feel, I am an Experienced Hammond B3 Player, I have been looking for a

drummer like you to team up with, go to b3gerard on You Tube, for videos,

  • you have Great feel, I am an Experienced Hammond B3 Player, I having looking for a

  • @SarahAngelx Haha i was just kidding, don't get your pannies in a bunch.

  • i think it needs more cowbell

  • pure felling

  • Sounds like Bozzio is her idol, going off this drum solo.

Yeah its a little technical but fuck its boring.

Listen to Bittner or Portney & youll be jumping out of your seat.

    Still shes very good.

  • @TheJagzy every time i listen to portnoy or bittner i jump out of my seat to shut it off cuz they're doing a bunch of juvenile meaningless simpleton cliche bullshit.

  • sounds like she has been listening to ginger

  • Very, very interesting drum solo... I'm thoroughly suprised o.O

  • i love her. she doesent just keep a beat she makes music.

  • An excellent mixture of finesse and maturity. LOVE IT!
