I HAVE MET DAVID GILMOUR! all my life i had watched him thinking what would i do if i did??? then on the 16th of august 2008 at 20.16pm i was in the hotdog line and turn round to dave standing behind me... i could never explain in words the feeling i felt at that moment!!!!!!! my life was complete at that very MOMENT!!!!!!!! =))
David himself confesses that he is not good at lyrics. But is it all? Lyrics is half of the Songs
David's songs are outstanding,His music is PF's music. If you go there and listen to Roger's solo songs clearly u'll notice lack of soul in his music! Lyrics is profound but lacks soul in melody. The same story is in David's Lyrics.anyway,I adore Gilmour .Pf's two last albums Are PF's masterpieces.I do believe in this
David can't write lyrics to save his life! Polly actually wrote "On an Island" and it's no secret that David didn't write most of "Division Bell" & "Momentary lapse." David writes amazing music but most of his lyrics end up being about walking around in the woods holding hands. It doesn't go to well with intense, dark melodies... What I loved about MLOR & DB was that they took the Floyd sound back to a point when everyone had input, like during the "Meddle" , "Obscured" and "More" years...
@dreamwad1 I agree that MLOR and DB feel like they are more a product of the whole band, but they mostly sound much more generic than PF previous stuff. Gilmour kicks ass musically any time he composes something with a guitar in between, but he lacks the direction of sheer emotion Roger's stuff conveyed. Animals, The Wall and The Final Cut are just overwhelmingly emotional, and Roger's lyrics are just kickass; the dude just poured himself on them. I doubt I've heard better lyrics than those.
In my dreams I still hope that Floyd will re-unite & record that new album that Roger started but never released. He wrote & recorded tracks but then put the whole thing on hold to tour for 10 years!! I know it's not very likely but it would be the perfect way to re-unite the band. In reality I doubt that David & Nick would simply let Roger lead the band & record HIS album but that's what made Floyd great. Rogers emotional, intense lyrics combined with David's emotional, intense guitar work.
Early Pink Floyd was progressive and their concerts were very improvisational. I love some of those 70's shows where they would jam out the end of SOYCD for 10 or 20 minutes. I wish they would release some of those old shows. They are releasing the 74 Wembley show!! It will be included in the new "IMMERSION" box sets coming next month!! They will also include one of the very early DSOTM shows from 72! & early Animals tracks from 74 ("Raving & Drooling" & "You've Got to be Crazy") I can't wait!!
i can confirm the back story as i was at the concert and lived in Italy at the time. The concert was absolutely phenomenal. The square was extremely packed and the Carabinieri sealed off all entrances to the square because it was packed. And there were some stampedes but nothing serious. I was located near the church. The sound was terrific.
THe Gilmour led years were Pink Floyd at it's peak. David took the band to the next level after Roger leaving. The band was bigger than ever in 1986-96. Two brilliant albums and tours.
Grande pezzo, grandissimo album A Momentary Lapse of Reason, e pure The Division Bell : immenso Gilmour, in culo Waters , senza lui hanno fatto meglio !
The Gilmour years are very underrated, yes. Most people don't acknowledge them, but A Momentary Lapse of Reason and The Division Bell had a great feel, and are just all-around great albums to listen to.
@MrPinkFloyd882 Well what I get a kick out of is Pink Floyd is supposed to be a progressive band. Yet people expect their sound to remain the same. Even if you compare Dark Side to earlier material there is a noticeable change. So the change after Waters departure doesn't really seem that big of a deal for me. It just saddens me that we only had two albums so far. Now with Wright having passed I really wonder if there will be more, one last album from Floyd?
This song is very under-appreciated, IMO. One of Floyd's best, and most moving pieces. It sounds amazing live, too (see: Delicate Sound of Thunder). Awesome.
@tehacesn1p3r IMO the Delicate Sound Of Thunder version is the best...it's such a shame that they didn't put it on film...I would die happy f I got to see that version live!
@tehacesn1p3r I agree. Plus I remember reading a Rolling Stone article when this CD was released stating that Gilmour's passion had gone out of his guitar solos. But the studio version of this song is one of the best guitar solos I've ever heard. Gilmour has something unique: an original guitar sound and style. He's the best!
ooo yeah hes totally amazing! best guitarist ever! i love the close up on his hands.. its crazy watching him play! i totally wish he would agree to do the comeback tour! it would be AMAZING to see them live...the comment on the aging is just a side note...
About the best albums ever... i realy can say a favorite... i love all albums.. all. But mostly i hear meedle lately, and atom heart mother. Lol what am i saying , i listen to all. Pink Floyd is my life completely.
And i do love this song, slow drums with great impact, wontderfull keyboard work by Rick as allways, and a great agony guitar worrk. its a prety deep song. love it and feel it.
This is for Spectroman10. In a interview before the concert in Portugal "alvalade" They said they were in another dimention of work, because of new equipment, modern times. Its prety normal Momentary lapse of reason was a complete new dimension , and that it would be alot diferent of all otheres. Remember that it was when they reunited again without Waters.
Yes on the studio album of this song he uses one of the heavy metal pedals by Boss. A really cheap pedal. Gilmour uses a lot of Boss pedals such as the Boss CS-2 Compressor/Sustainer and Boss GE-7 (Graphic Equalizer). See gilmourish(.)com - thats where i found out. Its a site dedicated to knowing stuff about gilmour sound.
You guys should check out this song on Delicate Sound of Thunder... the best version by far.... it's a shame nobody has uploaded it yet... guess I'll have to do it myself someday....
one of my favorite floyd songs i like how most of their best songs arent that well known and they dont play them on the radio where im from its always Time,Money,Wish,Numb,LT fly,Cigar....92.5 fm in MN is where its at..

the studio album has the evilest meanest angiest guitar solo in the middle of the song. Gilmour used heavy metal effects pedal on here.
Is that the one you're talking about? If theres a meaner one, I'd like to hear it :D
in fact its my favorite gilmour solo of all time :)
