If you lift a barra by the mouth/gills vertically, it severely damages bones and cartilage where the head joins the body, especially with heavier fish like this one. The best way to handle them safely is to keep them in the water, grab the bottom lip and place the other hand underneath the middle of the body. Then you can lift them horizontally with full support. It's still possible to cause minor damage, but holding them like in this video is basically a certain death.
