A year (or more) later, I still maintain that this is first-rate musically and dramatically from both singers: the controlled energy, the fine phrasing and vivid dynamics. On a par, I believe, with the incandescent L. Price-C. Valetti Salzburg Festival performance of 1960. For me, it makes the libretto believable.

Two splendid voices ~there is nothing as vital as a live recording ;

Mr. Alva was delightful in comic roles as well as in serious one´s (as this wonderful video proofs )

Both singers magnificent! Very fine phrasing, dynamics, energy, etc. As to Stich-Randall's acting, I found it rather compelling. I think this is the view of Anna that she really loves Giovanni (who was a welcome intruder although she pretends the opposite) & cares little for Ottavio. If one subscribes to this view, then imagine her feelings at this point -- she is terribly shocked at her father's death yet also distracted, disoriented and deceitful, groping her way thru to save face!

@LobsngDmchoi This is what I have always thought. I have always believed the lady invited him in!! When he kills her father, when she believes the opposite would happen, she becomes bent on revenge. Of course the libretto puts paid to my little theory!!!!

Alva is magnificent...Stitch-Randall is stiff as a singing statue! Alva is a full fledged expressive human being! Both singers are being asked to be somewhat formal and wooden by the director! For those who think Mozart is too frufru for them, they only need listen to this intense, dark aria to be proven wrong! There is nothing trivial in the emotions expressed nor the cautionary tale that underpins the entire opera. Both singers convey the necessary sobriety! Bravo Alva!
