I would appreciate you not to insult Layne's memory. He was an awesome singer who had to deal with an awful heroin addiction, his death has nothing to do with " sucking too much infected cock ".
If we could take Layne's vocal talent and spread it evenly over every man, woman and child in the world, we'd all be slightly more talented than Lady Gaga.
It won't let me post the URL, but if you search youtube for "alice in chains last show" there's one that's about 45 minutes, that's the whole thing, there's a point somewhere in the middle where the audio breaks out but it's most of everything.
I will never forget the day I received my Rolling Stone issue that month showing Kurt Cobain on the cover. Little did I know that there was an article with Layne standing on a stage wearing one of his signature vests with a mic in his hand explaining how his family had not had any contact with him in nearly two weeks. As I read on, my heart grew heavy learning of his overdose. The world has lost not only Michael Jackson, but before him Layne Staley.
wow. he was sooo sexy and def much more full of energy in videos like the ones from '91 in comparison to ths one. it looks like he was losing his teeth too. you can tell by looking at his lips. same goes for "unplugged 1996" he looks the same way. his lips are shaped like abn old mans mouth that has dentures (what it looks like when they are out) and to think, that was only five years apart. crazy how quick crack and heroin can destroy your looks. sad. real sad. :(
@kenzie3673 if you think his teeth we're gone at this point, look again and closer. he sure got his teeth, but yeah, they´re deteriorating. he probably tried to hide that fact by not wanting to show his teeth.
Some people think he has no energy in this and dislike it because his voice is too scratchy and he's too sick. But that's why I love it. You can hear the emotion in his voice. You can hear that rawness and that burning anger and bitterness. I think that raw hatred, almost, is what really makes this live performance a million times better than the studio.
this plays so much different years later,I remember first seeing this bootleg thinking how cool it was gonna be when they started touring again. Now it feels more like a eulogy
Acoustic cover version of Them Bones, and of Nutshell. High quality. Decent vocals. Have a listen let us know what you think. Im a massive AIC fan and wanted to do these 2 tracks as a small memento to what Layne has meant to my own development as a musician. Search for The Corvus Experiment on Facebook.
Sometimes if the person has something to live for then the person goes on. I think that is what they were trying to do (Jerry) let him have something to live for. However, at some point that wasn't working.
I've listened to this song at least 20 times today. I love it. Layne will be missed, and i hope that i can pay tribuite to him and show people the unbelievable that he and other bands made back in the 90's
R.I.P Layne and the others like him that were taken before there time.
People always say had great it is to have someone like layne staley. He didn’t do anything extraordinary, he was just himself and sung what came natural to him. If everyone would just be themselves then wouldn't this world be filled great people?
@Parag0n ya its so heartbreaking like Shannon Hoon dying on tour... I think Jerry would have propped his corpse on stage if it could sing. I was in my early teens in the 90's ans was always so sad for Layne because of how the rock media outlets just through him under the bus and wrote him off for dead... I can only imagine how dissolusioned he must have been after those cunting bastards at rolling stone released that issue ....He really closed up after that to any kind of media
@Parag0n Poor Layne but I also feel bad for the rest of the group who were working musicians, needing the money to pay for their lives, almost dependent on their unstable drug addicted lead singer. And, as I understand it - at the end of his days he pushed everyone away and did not want intervention. No-one, except for his creepy father who shot up with him, should take the blame for Layne's death.
@stefan103 i never knew laynes dad shot up with him in the end of his days. do you know if his dad is still alive or not? ive seen a picture of him. and him and layne look very much alike
@iliketoparty1995 Did some research on his life and found out his father left the family early and was a long-time drug abuser. One of Layne's ambitions after he became famous was to seek out his father. His father found him and they started shooting heroin together. That must have been a tough road and I bet the mother felt doubly horrible. Drug addicted ex-husband and son.
@stefan103 wow thank you so much for the share. man. i do have sympathy for nancy. and you are right about laynes dad is to blame for..well..basically encouraging him to do drugs and o.d.
@iliketoparty1995 I saw a picture of him at the fan gathering around Layne's condo after Layne's death (or something like that, in some sort of gathering). He looked all sympathetic and I felt sick. Don't know or care if he's still alive.
@stefan103 thats just plain sad that he outlived his own son. and its mainly that guys fault layne isnt here anyomre. if he has still been using though. i doubt hes alive anymore
@matty2399 It's actually an article about an earlier interview with Layne. But when it's googled the date is Feb. 25, 2003. Did you even try looking for it? Below is part of it ...
"Being used by his father was one of the forces that contributed to Staley's downward slide. He finally kicked heroin use, and I'm still fighting," he said bitterly...."
This may be Staley's last show, but he still delivers, and this version of the song is infinitely superior to the tinny sounding version on the album. "WELL GUYS I STILL PAY TAXES!" That's how the album version should have been.
Read "Grunge Is Dead": History Of Seattle Music. you know those songs that just wanna make you start to cry. it seems everytime i hear this song i wanna break down. same with the guitar solo in Floods by Pantera. soo much depth and its seems soo sincere. AIC will always be the band i look up to the most for depth in music. such a waste of AMAZING talent. RIP Layne and Starr. your a big reason why i am a musician.
This performance breaks my heart. The voice is still amazing, but he has no energy. A complete 180 from the performer he used to be. And the song is heartbreaking. He's questioning God, in my opinion. I *think* this is after his ex-girlfriend died. And think of all the times he had tried to get clean up to this point..."god am" almost sounds like the curse word "God damn". Just my two cents.
@ilovelaynestaley0869 I agree with you completely on this song and performance. Heroin robbed Layne of his life and energy, but his performance is still awesome even when he is completely strung out. just check out "MTV Unplugged". Plus they recorded "Get Born Again" when he was a frail 90 lbs and his skin was green. No telling how messed up he was in the recording of the self titled album and "Dirt".
@ilovelaynestaley0869 You are right. No damn energy. Look at some man in the box videos from early 90s and he's full of energy. Heroin killed him and I hate it so much. This is probably my least favorite AIC song also. This is my favorite band.
@ilovelaynestaley0869 actually his ex girlfriend was alive at that time. she died on october 29, 1996. their disolved relationship left him with depression, and the broken dream of forming a family one day :(.
@spiritualmisanthropy and he wasn't fine ,and he knew at this point he probably wasn't going to make it as sad as it is, heroin is the devils drug, that shit is horrible.
@wtfxshowxhoe what i've gotten from this song, i feel like layne recognized his struggle with heroin and it's a round-about way of saying 'god damn'...."im not fine, fuck pretending", however, it could be him denouncing his 'god', being smack....look up the lyrics get what you will from it
@Rattshewantsmoney have you even listened to opeth in your life, cocksucker? if so, u'd know they display some of the best guitars ever written. why dont you fuck ur mother whom i hope has cancer.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
This band sucks. All they were was a group of heroine-addicts that wrote songs about suffering and couldn't even hit a note. They don't even tune their guitars.
@LordRucifel um u dont know what ur talking about and apparently ur just tryin to start shit with people on here so fuck off listening to ur corporate gay justin bieber music
Why do you watch clips of bands you don't even like. It's not even about expressing opinions. Doesn't make any sense seeking out bands you don't like then trashing them to get a rise out of the fans. You either have too much time on your hands or are just looking to start fights with people you don't know.
@LordRucifel you must know nothing about guitars and downtuned settings cocksucker jerry cantrell is one of the best guitar players on the world just so you know ozzy asked him to join ozzy osbourne band at some point in the 90's and they were not a group of heroin addicts they were a group of talented human beings and they wrote their songs with passion . passion and talent the bands you listen to lacks of retarded
@yerkil28 There was no passion ... can you tell me what this song is about, what inspired him to write it, or what relevance the lyrics even have? Maybe instead of flaming everyone who doesn't like your little Layne Staley, maybe you should actually learn a thing or two about him before you give us BS replies.
@LordRucifel not all alice songs are about heroin , dirt album is dedicated to relate them , but if you listen to jar of flyes, sap ep ,facelift you will find great songs about feelings writen with a lot of passion.there are also songs about despair loneliness and states of mind.he had the best voice ever.amen
Then why are you commenting on one of their videos? Obviously they grabbed your attention, if AIC is such a horrible band, then why even bother sitting through one of their videos. Save your negativity and do something good with it.
Even though he was high out of his mind, the dude still put on a great performance and sang his heart out. Layne Staley was a true artist and Alice in Chains was an amazing band. We miss you Layne (and now Mike Starr, shit half of original AIC is gone) thank you for all the great inspirational songs. RIP brother.
All I have to say is... WOW! I mean seriously WOW! That was fucking incredible. All 4 of them played their parts to absolute PERFECTION! Great great performance!!
This song has so much emotion in it. For everyone not just Layne. I mean when you listen to it you can feel the emotion. In the bridge.. My lord. It is amazing. Layne was an amazing man now Mike has passed on also. :'( RIP MIKE STARR AND LAYNE STALEY. Alice in Chains forever.
God DAMN. This video is incredible. Whoever you are out there, who shot this video, I thank you. Why? ....because. Cantrell wouldn't '"find the time to let things be..." The Killer is Him, shall be a song I plan to write. Jerks! (Inez/Cantrell) Not to you out there, wherever you may be, taking the time to finish reading these distasteful words.........God Am? No Ma'am, you Okie like huggers. ;) (Save me, Lord)
Can you please say something original that hasn't been said and repeated by everyone since "discovering" AIC in the 2000's.. Fans know why he left and don't feel the need to say something as repetitive as your comment, go deeper then keep it inside. Write a song, don't post here please. Thanks

@grUngEroX1991 Layne was in a very terrable part of his life and he kept asking God for help and things wouldn't get better so Layne kept getting pissed off a God and wrote those lyrics from his pain.
@MrSplattycakes that's not the whole truth. Layne wasn't religious at all. he's said it himself in interviews. he refers to his addiction as "god". "this god of mine relapses". "in god's name is smack for some", several of lyrics referring addiction as god.
@onkel44lekno What He meant by "and God's name is smack for some" was some people don't think of God and his words when they use Drugs. And the lyrics in God am are: "This God of mine relaxes" He means that no matter how hard he asks for help he doesn't get it. With Demri's death, and his addiction he was crying for help and never got any. God am was born.
@MrSplattycakes i'm pretty sure that's your interpretation of the lyrics and not the truth. Layne wasn't religious that is my point. you mean he asked god for help and didn't get any help and was angry at god because of that? Layne being a none religious man i very much doubt that. obviously he struggled a lot but i'm pretty sure he knew all along it was only he himself who could beat the addiction. he was in treatment 13 times. to me it's obvious god is a reference to his addiction.
@onkel44lekno Whatever man I'm not out to argue and those are the real lyrics. Trust me I know I own every Alice in Chains album made. The lyrics are in the cds. And whenever anyone gets to be in a very huge struggle they are desperate for help. I'm sure Layne asked God for help. But I guess we both will never know huh? We're not Layne Staley, or any AIC members. We can all make guesses but we'll never know the real reason.
@onkel44lekno i guess everybody thinks about "god" (the reason why the things are the way they are,the basic questions of human existence and the meaning suffering) when he finds himsel in some kind of a life crisis regardless of what "god" means to him
so i don't really think it is of much use to speculate whether layne believed in christian God or not, the notion is, imho, open to interpretation
+being religious doesn't always mean that someone believes in God, religiosity can have many forms
Sucks to say but this is probably the worst show I've ever seen by them. None of them seem to be happy playing besides Mike (R.I.P.). Layne(R.I.P.) doesn't even look like he's enjoying himself and neither do Jerry or Sean. Now I'm just comparing this to all the other performances I've seen but this performance really shows the darker side to the band. Trump for President 2012. R.I.P. Alice In Chains( We all can agree they're practically dead now )
@BeckMCS9876 Get the fuck outta here with your Donald Trump bullshit! Why on earth would u post that on an AIC video message board?? By the way, I totally disagree with your take on this video. They sound great 1st of all, and Layne is sicker than shit cuz the dope so how do u expect him to look??
@nolson4062 Lol the trump part was a joke. And yeah fuck trump and his dumb claim to run for presidency. As for AIC if you read well i didn't say that the music was played bad. Also i didn't say anything about Layne and his period of drug use. The post was of the overall visual and I'm not saying that I determine how good a performance is on a visual aspect but what I am saying is they didn't look like they were having too much fun. Hopefully you read this post all the way through.
@nolson4062 And hopefully you read it several times because obviously it takes a while for you to process what someone is actually saying besides thinking everything is an immediate insult.
i still remember hearing it on the radio at two in the morning when they found layne dead, the day grunge died in my opinion. the rest of the band fucking sold out. mike and layne were the only true members of the band, now they have fucking lenny kravits' twin singing in laynes place. god damn its disgusting
Fuck you. Jerry Cantrell made great music on his own. (Boggy Depot) And was just as much AIC as Layne was. I think it's great that the rest of the band didn't let their talent go to waste and started playing again. Sure, Willem ISN'T Layne, nor does he try to be, he just sings the songs well and leaves it at that. A real AIC fan would know that. Faggot.
@dedoc64 shit i felt like i was the only one who noticed that about mike (starr, not this fucker inez with his corny playstyle) and layne. 2 realest sob's in the band.
Jerry's lick at 0:11 is so bad fucking ass!!!! RIP Layne

Drugs fucked him up so bad, some people really need to think twice about pushing that plunger.
The needle enslaves you, some people get through it, some people can do it recreationally and some people do it just so they keep on breathing.
As much as I like AIC I question why he was forced to tour in such bad shape, addicted to cocaine and heroin.
A beautiful, talented person was left rotting and decaying away for weeks before someone bothered to check on him, Layne needed his friends.

@ilovelaynestaley0869 actually his ex girlfriend was alive at that time. she died on october 29, 1996. their disolved relationship left him with depression, and the broken dream of forming a family one day :(.

wtfxshowxhoe 8 months ago
@wtfxshowxhoe what i've gotten from this song, i feel like layne recognized his struggle with heroin and it's a round-about way of saying 'god damn'...."im not fine, fuck pretending", however, it could be him denouncing his 'god', being smack....look up the lyrics get what you will from it

This band sucks. All they were was a group of heroine-addicts that wrote songs about suffering and couldn't even hit a note. They don't even tune their guitars.

Why do you watch clips of bands you don't even like. It's not even about expressing opinions. Doesn't make any sense seeking out bands you don't like then trashing them to get a rise out of the fans. You either have too much time on your hands or are just looking to start fights with people you don't know.

@LordRucifel you must know nothing about guitars and downtuned settings cocksucker jerry cantrell is one of the best guitar players on the world just so you know ozzy asked him to join ozzy osbourne band at some point in the 90's and they were not a group of heroin addicts they were a group of talented human beings and they wrote their songs with passion . passion and talent the bands you listen to lacks of retarded
yerkil28 8 months ago
@yerkil28 There was no passion ... can you tell me what this song is about, what inspired him to write it, or what relevance the lyrics even have? Maybe instead of flaming everyone who doesn't like your little Layne Staley, maybe you should actually learn a thing or two about him before you give us BS replies.
LordRucifel 8 months ago
@LordRucifel not all alice songs are about heroin , dirt album is dedicated to relate them , but if you listen to jar of flyes, sap ep ,facelift you will find great songs about feelings writen with a lot of passion.there are also songs about despair loneliness and states of mind.he had the best voice ever.amen

Then why are you commenting on one of their videos? Obviously they grabbed your attention, if AIC is such a horrible band, then why even bother sitting through one of their videos. Save your negativity and do something good with it.

thiseyewinks 10 months ago
@grUngEroX1991 Layne was in a very terrable part of his life and he kept asking God for help and things wouldn't get better so Layne kept getting pissed off a God and wrote those lyrics from his pain.
MrSplattycakes 10 months ago
@MrSplattycakes that's not the whole truth. Layne wasn't religious at all. he's said it himself in interviews. he refers to his addiction as "god". "this god of mine relapses". "in god's name is smack for some", several of lyrics referring addiction as god.
onkel44lekno 10 months ago
@onkel44lekno What He meant by "and God's name is smack for some" was some people don't think of God and his words when they use Drugs. And the lyrics in God am are: "This God of mine relaxes" He means that no matter how hard he asks for help he doesn't get it. With Demri's death, and his addiction he was crying for help and never got any. God am was born.
MrSplattycakes 10 months ago
@MrSplattycakes i'm pretty sure that's your interpretation of the lyrics and not the truth. Layne wasn't religious that is my point. you mean he asked god for help and didn't get any help and was angry at god because of that? Layne being a none religious man i very much doubt that. obviously he struggled a lot but i'm pretty sure he knew all along it was only he himself who could beat the addiction. he was in treatment 13 times. to me it's obvious god is a reference to his addiction.
onkel44lekno 10 months ago
@onkel44lekno Whatever man I'm not out to argue and those are the real lyrics. Trust me I know I own every Alice in Chains album made. The lyrics are in the cds. And whenever anyone gets to be in a very huge struggle they are desperate for help. I'm sure Layne asked God for help. But I guess we both will never know huh? We're not Layne Staley, or any AIC members. We can all make guesses but we'll never know the real reason.
MrSplattycakes 10 months ago

They sound great 1st of all, and Layne is sicker than shit cuz the dope so how do u expect him to look??
nolson4062 11 months ago
@nolson4062 Lol the trump part was a joke. And yeah fuck trump and his dumb claim to run for presidency. As for AIC if you read well i didn't say that the music was played bad. Also i didn't say anything about Layne and his period of drug use. The post was of the overall visual and I'm not saying that I determine how good a performance is on a visual aspect but what I am saying is they didn't look like they were having too much fun. Hopefully you read this post all the way through.
BeckMCS9876 11 months ago
@nolson4062 And hopefully you read it several times because obviously it takes a while for you to process what someone is actually saying besides thinking everything is an immediate insult.
BeckMCS9876 11 months ago
i still remember hearing it on the radio at two in the morning when they found layne dead, the day grunge died in my opinion. the rest of the band fucking sold out. mike and layne were the only true members of the band, now they have fucking lenny kravits' twin singing in laynes place. god damn its disgusting
dedoc64 11 months ago
@dedoc64
Faggot.
