Just beautiful! Such a great western and an amazing score. Little known fact: The story was originally a script set to star John Wayne, Henry Fonda and James Stewart. But after Wayne turned down the role of Call, it was transformed into the book, then reproduced with the cast we now know. Also of note, Duvall was originally cast as Call, but switched when Tommy Lee Jones read for the part.
I hear those strings and my heart shouts and the breath leaves my body and I am THERE.........never was a book so thoroughly made real - never did a filmmaker have such truthful material and people and feelings and history for his movie.
thank you so much for putting this song up, this was my fathers favorite song. he passed away last year and i haven't lisinted to it since, thank you for making sucha a beautiful video
My favorite love scene ever in a movie : Call stands at that deathbed and wants to beg Gus, " Don't go. Don't leave. " Yeah, they're both men : so the fuk what ? It's an incredibly painful, real, genuine and truthful moment. It makes your heart bigger. That's what love does.
This was an excellent presentation and you do honor to one of the greatest western adventures ever filmed as well as some of the best actors and actresses cast for the roles. This score captures the sober and extreme confidence felt by Texas and Texans and, for that, we thank you.
You did the matching with the orchestra and visuals amazingly well with the superior score of one of the best films of all time. My compliments to your taste and efforts.
Probably one of the very best Westerns ever made. The whole state of Texas shut down when this series was originally aired and made every effort to see each episode.
I remember hearing it discussed over and over the next day as I traveled the state. Proud people.
The remark below was supposed to be a response to CowboyRealtor- a year ago he wrote that L. D. is the best movie ever, period. Cowboy is spot on.........Lonesome Dove makes your heart and soul bigger. Larry McMurtry must be the proudest novelist who ever drew a breath to see what Motown did with his book.
The Lonesome Dove character Gus was taken from the real character Oliver Loving. His ranch pasture is down the road just a few miles from where some of my kinfolks once lived. Oliver Loving is buried in a town that I went to college in. Strange to think that country would ever be associated with this music.
Everyone deservedly knows Basil because of his Conan music, and I love it. But I think his Lonesome Dove theme is his most mature and beautiful and shows his full range and scope.
Thank you Escapay!!! it is awesome...What a story....what a great film. It may be of interest that much of it was true, their real names were Oliver Loving (the Gus charactor) and Charles Goodnight. The great cattle trip and the journey home with the body are all true. God bless all who love this story!!! and all who share via this site beautiful things.
Yes!!! I agree 100 % And the most faithful and accurate adaptation of a book that I know of: awesome people and real history made into awesome art and characters.

I actually am inclined to agree now that I hear this. But I still list Free Willy as my particular favorite by him... It introduced me to his music.

First, a classic novel. Then, a masterpiece motion picture. From that, came one of the most beautiful soundtracks of all time.
