  • Love this movie.

  • Bleecker Street mentioned early in the song and located in Manhattan connects Abingdon Square, the intersection of Eighth Avenue and Hudson Street in the West Village, to the Bowery in the East Village.

  • Does anyone know where I can get tabs for this?

  • great song ^^

  • "Good-bye boys; I die a true American.

  • what the hell is so confusing about this song? it seems pretty straightforward to me. i guess you have to have been jackrolled

  • love this song, love this movie

  • @agrutrot12 you obviously haven't seen the movie gangs of new york, about the Irish mob. Look up your facts before you go running your fucked up mouth.

  • @agrutrot12 nah you're thinking of the italians

  • What's the polka have to do with anything?

  • are they saying annie or honey?

  • @ivy0x0 they say annie

  • Lyrics?

  • @icekill123 Google?

  • Fantastic movie. That song is played in the dance scene, isn't it? Love it!!

  • G. O. N. Y. was one of the best movies made, it shows so many detailed aspects of the influx of immigrants, especially from ireland. It is weird to see how in some parts (maybe many) our Irish ancestors were looked at as lower than the blacks, who we always learned in school had it very bad.

Anyways my family came from County Kildare, Ireland. The Griffin family. There is a city street and a pub named after my great great great grandfather(1840s) hope to see it someday. Cheers!

  • @HAMMERxHCA Its ironic how yanks looked down at irish, nowadays, irish people have the reputation of being hard nuts compared to yanks lmao, its a good and bad rep but it just goes to show the racism they still endure :(

  • @CelticSpiritWolf Irish people are pretty much the least intimidating ethnic group in the US.

  • @Agutrot12 you've obviously never seen one in a drunken fistfight lol

  • @redrounin Yea, they just tend to have guns/knives less often. Can't really say that's a bad thing. No one really gets hurt with fists, its all good fun.

  • @CelticSpiritWolf The people who were "Yanks" at the time Irish were immigrating were a very different mixture of people than Yanks today. What an American is has always been a moving target.

  • @HAMMERxHCA you should come over as soon as you can.you will get a very warm welcome

  • im not irish my freinds but hell this song helps me fight good

  • Thumbs up if you're from Bleeker Street...

  • @AngloSaxonBob -_- i dont think so

  • @MRCOWSLIP

thank you! I know this song talks about new york, but what kind of folk is this? Irish?

  • @italianguerrilla It's American folk, my lad. A mixture of a lot of things. The polka originated in Bohemia, and came to the states from Europe around the time of the Mexican War. It's played with regional variations all over Europe and wherever Europeans settled. Finbar Furey (vocalist in this clip) is an Irish singer -- better known I think for his brilliant piping. The polka played in this clip is from the Cork/Kerry area, and is called "Oh, the britches full of stitches."

  • IF you are TRUE IRISH you HAVE HAD to have some members of family leave at some point during 1845 or years after so stop the friggin fighting and start defending your family members.....Like it or not ...We are family...:))

  • continued...to adapt .. intermarriages happened religions changed BUT our bloodlines are still the same here and we are still COUSINs of yours my family was sent to Canada then to AMerica .Fathers side was sent to England then AMerica so ugly as it sounds we are all a product of the same bloodlines...Did our GreatGrandparents want to Leave? No So stop making fun of this American country cause it saved many of your previous family members also.

  • @motanj1 Almost everyone from Ireland has family in the US. We know our origin, Just taking the piss.

  • as i read these comments i am chickling at ignorance ..space here is limited so here it is in a nutshell..Yes #1 i AM OLD, so i am aware of what i speak.. Ireland you speak of us UGLY american,, Are you aware our Great Granparents were FORCED out of their homes?? Do you know how they cried and families were ripped apart at their having to leave? They were sent to England/Canada/Americas or wherever they could be sponsored or afford passage. Being sent to all these countries they had no choice..

  • It's in A, and if anyone knows the 12 bars blue progression, it's A -> D -> E -> A (most of the time before it builds up to the 'My dear Annie" it goes to the higher a as a resolution but in the regular verse goes back down to the lower A for the resolution)

  • everyone gets so butthurt xD

  • As I walked down through Chatham Street a fair maid I did meet

She asked me to see her home, she lived in Bleeker Street

  • me and my friends got wasted to this song!!!!! ahhh goodtimes!:)

  • This was originally a British song during the time of the Revolutionary War that put down all New York woman as sluts and disease carriers. Over time, the Irish immigrants rearranged the lyrics. If you have the time, look up the lyrics to the original song, it's pretty funny.

  • now they need to make the sequel The Barbary Coast

  • Me gold watch and pocket book and lady friends had goon

And there I was, all tackle out, standin there like a baffoon

and a weigh, ye Santee, My dear Annie

Oh you New York Girls, Cant you dance the Polka!!!!!!!

  • Verse 6

"Me gold watch and me pocket book and lady friends had run

And there I was, all tackle out, standin there like a baffoon"

  • @revelutionary...advice from an Irishman...Stop watching Gangs of New York, and realize your not in the natives gang, get a fucking life, and be nice, because everyone has a little bit of some race in them you smug bastard.

  • YOU FOREIGN HORDES!!!! YOU ARENT AND NEVER WILL BE TRUE AMERICANS

  • @revolutionary17 What is a true American?

  • @revolutionary17 shut it up ya bastard

  • @revolutionary17 GOD BLESS IRELAND!!

  • @revolutionary17 You know chances are like 60% that you have Irish blood you are very ignorant my good sir.

  • @revolutionary17 Well, unless you're living in a poverty stricken reservation eating goverment cheese, or running a casino in the southwest, neither are you, sir.

  • @revolutionary17 All "americans" have european ancestors. None of you are "true americans", except for those who are native indians or descendants of the aztec people....so just shut the fuck up and listen to the music, moron....

  • Gotta love this song! Yes it is addictive! Does anyone know where I can download a copy of the song from the same group?

  • is this an irish polka?

  • Best music-part of the movie!

  • end of movie fucking stupid... 2 gangs showed up and i was like, "fucknig kill each other!" then millitary steps in and kills them all.. i mean really? whole movie was building up to that moment and didnt even fight?

  • @blazergamer99 Yea, but butcher bill got butchered. That was cool even though I was rooting for him! He really died of a gunshot wound and that would be lame.

  • @blazergamer99

at least a fight like in the beginning

  • I hate it when Americans with Irish heritage assert how "Irish" they are. Are you from Ireland? Have you ever even been to Ireland? DIdn't think so, STFU.

  • @dustylefou Wow you sound angry. Having another potato famine are we?

  • @sacrenough It'd be kind of hard for me to understand what a potato famine is like seeing as how I'm American.

  • @dustylefou I figured from your first comment that you were an upset Irishman. My apologies for the misinterpretation.

  • yo that one bitch totally gave that bartender a human ear for some skunk mixed beer, i wish human ears were still currency in New York City.

  • @NPC514 Just a bug from Youtube :/

  • @mateyalive Oh okay, bummer. Thanks again.

  • @NPC514 you have to do that with copy righted songs so the time on the track is different and machines cant sniff it out.

  • @Samaflame Oh okay. Thanks

  • ITS MOTHER LOVEING IRISH NIGGER

  • @mansport12ga black irish!!

  • @joemcg16 a jigg doing a jigg

  • Saw the movie found myself humming this tune FOR DAYS!! Could not get it out of my head. Finally I looked it up - excellent

  • @garagefilms101 lol yeah I did the exact same thing. This song is so catchy

  • @garagefilms101 Sure, it's a great song -- probably from around the time of the Mexican War or a bit later. Hence the reference to Santie Annie (Santa Anna). A lot of folks have recorded this. I have versions from the Kingston Trio and Steeleye Span. The polka being played in the instrumental break is Oh the britches full of stitches.

  • Very good music

  • I think im 50,000 of these views, Cant get enough of this song!

  • @Emit79 no doubt!! buy me a beer ...

  • I love this song! It reminds me of Benny Hill.

  • The liquor was so awfully strong, i quickly fell asleep!

  • I always thought he was singing "Oh New Yorkers!" lol.....DERRRRRRR!!!!!

  • Does anyone have sheet music for this?

  • Prefer the newer Bellowheads cover/rewrite

  • The music in this movie makes me want to explode from awesome.

  • It initially sounded like "My dear Aggie" to me, but when I looked up the song under "My Dear Aggie" on Google, I found the lyrics and found that it was "My Dear Annie."

  • god bless Ireland

Oh, you New York girls, Can't you dance the polka?

  • i drink to this!! and get fucked up!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @alhambra1 fuck yes...I tend to get drunk and play this song on repeat until someone notices and changes it lol

  • @jocksmen the original was not done by steeleye span. They have the first popular recording of this song. This song is an old sailing song dating back to the 1800's martin scorsese used the song because i was a popular folk song of the period. As for the first recording good luck i am sure there are many versions of this. i would look under "cant you dance the polka" or "New york Gal's" if you are interested. i have already run across about 3 different sets of lyrics.

  • DOES ANYONE KNOW THE NAME OF THE SONG DURING THE CANDLELIT DANCE SCENE?

  • Check out the Steeleye Span version, cereally.

  • This movie is definitely in my top 10.

  • @bweazel

    Top 5! ^^

  • I really enjoyed this film & the songs an addictive tune.

  • Shame that Ronnie Drew never sang this song.

  • Forgive me here folks..but this song always reminds of a Robert E Howard character far less known that Conan of Cimmeria; Sailor Steve Costigan....and the sort of trouble the impetuous bastard would get into...

  • I know this is not Benny Hill but it sure does sound like him LOL

  • @msbeth20 Oh Shut-Up, just Shut-Up...The germans are NOT Celts lmao...Celts have different customs, language, roots, culture, names and even mentality

Fact is most Irish are Celts, hence of the language, customs, culture, warrior mentallity, pride, dignity and even facial features and exotic looks. History has shown staying United and preserving your roots and culture makes you get far in life & respected..Need me say more.

    An Irish-Celtic-Girl!

  • @easynowww Different mentallity alright. People who come from Germany are German the Celts came from Germany that suprise suprise makes them Germans. Seriously what kind of education did you have, there is plenty of historical proof the Celts are German. What a stupid argument over crap no one gives a shit about.

  • @msbeth20 An we all came from Africa ye eejit so dat makes us African? No it doesnt, an da Celts consist of da irish, scots an welsh. Da Germans wer known as 'GAULS' an wen dey wer wipped out r absolved into other tribes, da western tribes moved north an west endind up in ireland an england an became CELTS a completly different group wit der own language, customes an culture. An ppl do give a shit bout it r else we wudnt b fightin bout it :P

    Slan go foil amadan

  • @easynownow, you original celts, who are actually from a old Germanic decent lived in what is now England, this was before Scotland was even a word, tribes of anglosaxons invaded your land wiped out your main thread of proper men, just like what happened to the polls, n the anglo's sent you packing to a small bog you now call home. If u had any intellect about conquering and colonising, u would of made use if the river in London, but u didn't, we sent are loyalists over to the bog intentionall

  • @satanwardog We contribute to the british economy, the uk would be "NOTHING" without us and immigrants!. Fact is Celts are NOT germanic lmao. We got our own language, customs, culture, way of life, mentallity and even more exotic better looking then the ugly english. The saxons/english are invading hordes who "STEAL" other nation's resources and consume their food and wealth, yet we Irish still kicked their asses lol. The english invented racism and slavery I can go on & on. Your blocked!

  • Great song

  • great great great

  • so catchy! I need a techno remix though hehe

  • @jocksmen Hey, i listen to it, the Orginial version by Steeleye span, and well, DON'T TAKE THIS PERSONALLY, but I didn't like it, sorry. It was way too slow (compared tot his one), and quietier than this one. Like i said, please don't take it the wrong way!

  • @Mirdala THATS OK

YOU HAVE TO BE IRISH TO GET IT.!

    LOL.!
