il the old days you could run 2 trains independetly if one was an electric loc and the other a steam, diesel, or electric loc. All märklin electro locs can be switched to be fed current from the cantenary. you need 2 transformers for this and ofcourse you need cantenary. one transformer needs to feed power to the middle track, the other to the cantenary.
