No..too many games and the bowl systems about rewarding the players and finishing their season in a fun way. They get gifts and have parties and enjoy themselves. With a playoff 8 top tier teams would miss out and 7 would get no reward at all.
@DoctaSmoove Are you serious with that response? So you're telling me that the college basketball kids are miserable because they have to play in a huge NCAA Tournament? I think that a playoff system is way more rewarding. The further you go the more rewarding. This current system is ridiculous
Have 8 teams based on the BCS rankings, and the higher ranked teams get home field advantage. Do the playoffs early in the bowl season and then once the two teams have been decided, send the 6 others to their respective bowl games(Big Ten and Pac-12 to the Rose, SEC to the Sugar Bowl, etc.). If one of those conference champions is in the national championship, then just replace whatever bowl they would've gone to with an at-large team. Bowls get their money and we have a playoff. Problem solved.
the college football championship determination is about one thing and one thing only.. MAKING MONEY. it has nothing to do with determining who is the best team in college football for the year. so, WHO CARES??
BCS=BS~ BTW there has never been a national championship in D1 college football, only a mythical national championship!!! Unless there is a playoff format with 12 to 16 teams its not a true championship. These silly bowl games prove nothing. All they accomplish is padding the pockets of the fat cats that run these major conferences. 30+ bowl games, really?? LOL Almost all teams play in bowl games now. Geez, I remember a time when it actually meant something to be playing in a bowl game.
The BCS is absolute Bullshit!!! It didn't fix anything!!! I, like many, love college football and think it is an absolute disgrace that certain teams get left out of the championship game because of the conference they play in. They beat all the teams on their schedule and still get the shaft! I have boycotted watching Div. 1 college football starting in 1995 when PSU got the sham with an undefeated season. Boo, to all the douche bags who keep a playoff format from being implemented.
The Playoffs will be with the top 16 teams in either the AP, which would be most likely, or the Coaches pole. The top 4 ranked teams will get a first round bye. 5 and 16 will play, 6 and 15, 7 and 14, 8 and 13, 9 and 12, 10 and 11 will play each other.
Number 1 will play winner of 5 vs 16, number 2 will play winner of 6 vs 15, 3 plays 7 vs 12, 4 plays winner of 8 and 13, and winner of 9 and 12 will play 10 and 11. From here you should het the point. I think thats how playoffs should work.
@iFiveSidedEm What? If you had 16 teams, they would all play and that would leave you 8 then 4 then 2 then 1. With byes you would end up with 10 teams left. That makes no sense.
For those wanting a playoff I have a few questions. How many teams? How will they be selected? Who will select them? Will it be an even number of teams or will some teams have a first round bye? If so how will that be determined and by whom? Will the teams be seeded? What will that criteria be and who will determine it? Where will the games be played? Who will decide that? How will the money be divided? Who will determine that? What station will broadcast them? What happens to the bowls? Thanks
@OldSouthernSoldier Number of teams is arbitrary, that could be decided a number of ways. The teams will be selected by the top x many teams in the AP or Coaches polls. First round byes, see the first question. Arbitrary. Again, rankings or potential byes determined by ranking. Seeding done by AP polls. Higher seed gets home game, where the title game will be played at a neutral site. You can have bowls for teams that don't make playoffs, and continue to create matchups with eliminated teams.
@OldSouthernSoldier There isn't much plan to it. A playoff is a playoff. You know, the way the World Cup, the NFL, NBA, MLB, and NHL, and even NCAA D1-AA playoffs all work. Top 12 or 16 teams get put in a playoff that takes place in the MONTH that these teams would be doing nothing but playing golf waiting for their bowl game.
@EnterTheOcho I can see there isn't much plan to it. In the Major leagues ALL the teams play each other and PLAY their way into the playoffs. In D2, well let's be honest, who cares what they do? I always find it interesting that someone can not only find the best 16 teams but seed them also. That's what we do now. Pick the top 2 teams. When you get a REAL plan let me know.
@OldSouthernSoldier The REAL question is what is your reason for NOT having a playoff? In a sport(Which i've played from grade school to semi-pro) where the winner is determined on the field, for a championship contender to be determined based on complexed math equations, AP and Coach rankings etc etc, there is something competatively WRONG about that whole bowl of soup! If your beat on the field because of what you did or didnt do well you can't complain.
@Whisper2771 I have no problem with a playoff. I just want to know the criteria for selecting the teams, how they will be seeded, and where the games will be played. I still find it interesting that someone can pick the best eight teams but not the best two teams. Let's hear YOUR plan..
Would having a playoff system get rid of bowl games? cuz if it does then i don't want it. but if we can have a playoff and all 35 bowl games then i'd like to have that so someone please answer this question.
what college football should do is have 8 teams in the playoffs and then keep the bowl games for money and tradition but it is unfair that college football does this to its loyal fans
@Hawkeyesownyou1 they dont get any chances right now that would give smaller schools like boise state, tcu etc a chance to compete rather than be forced to watch the bigger schools have all the fame and glory
@brasteen1 boise, utah and tcu don't play anybody except in the beginning. then they play teams that are barely bettter than fcs schools. only fans want a playoff not coaches even boise state and tcu coaches like the bcs system
@Hawkeyesownyou1 cant see why they are always screwed by it i know they can compete against anybody but we'll never know because of the bcs thats the flaw there is always doubt
@brasteen1 if i were ever to have a playoff it would only be a four team playoff, otherwise no. if we have an eight team playoff or more teams, ohio state could've just lost this weekend to wisconsin on purpose and they would've said "no problem we'll play them when it counts." if we have a playoff what's the point of conference expansions and conference championships? if there's a playoff there will be less intense games throughout the year.
@Hawkeyesownyou1 That's stupid. If you don't play well in the regular season you don't go to the playoffs simple as that. That applies to all sports other than D1 College football. Just look at NCAA basketball's system far superior to the BCS.
@Hawkeyesownyou1 Uhh maybe at mininmum the top 8 teams, but that's still cutting it close. At least something like the NCAA basketball tourney, where conference champions are guaranteed and the rest get in based upon records.
Would schools like Butler ever got a chance if collge basketball had a BCS style system?
@Greendude33 I understand and it's respectable. u have a great question about butler. basketball is a physical sport. football is a violent game and that's why they have a bowl system. college kids aren't equipped to handle 16 games a season. the last few years there have been top 5 teams playing each other in conference championships. if one loses they would probably still be ranked in the top 8. this is why i don't favor an eight team playoff or more. players don't want a 8 or 16 team playoff.
The solution less non-conference regular season games, they could very easily eliminate the BS games early in the season, like Folrida vs Appalacian State etc...
They in turn wouldnt change the number of games on their schedules, either way you don't belong in football if you are not wanting to play not only for a championship but true proof of who's best.
@Greendude33 look i do agree with u that there shouldn't be any fbs playing fcs schoolsthe real solution is putting boise and tcu in bcs conferences and when that's done u will only need a four team playoff at most.
@Hawkeyesownyou1 It's the administrations, sponsors, etc that want BCS the players, coaches and fans or in other words the majority and true heart and soul of the sport do not support the BCS system.
Not only that but alot of these players are playing for a shot at the next level and If they cannot handle a competitive atmosphere to determine the best team, then they don't belong playing football.
Champions are made by settling it out on the field not polls.
@Greendude33 if we have an 8 or 16 team playoff what's the point of conference championships, expansions, regular season. bcs teams could lose two games and say no problem while non bcs schools will be fighting their guts out just to stay in the race. and having politicians getting involved of forcing cfb to have a playoff and it's none of their fuckin business because they got other things to worry in washington that r more important
@Hawkeyesownyou1 amazing how ncaa div. 1aa div. 2 and div. 3 have football playoffs and you have never heard any complaints from any players coaches university administrators and fans of the participating colleges. the BCS is a hypocritical joke and a blatent violation of the anti trust laws that are implemented in this nation.
@chitownmo which is exactly why the non bcs schools are going to bcs conferences. do u really think a 5 loss team should have a shot at the national title? boise had the opportunity to go to the pac 10 but they decided to go to the MWC. the only playoff i would go to is a four team playoff
@Hawkeyesownyou1 It's so irrelevant if you lose to one team in the regular season.
Remeber the 2007 New England Patriots 16-0 Regular Season. Last Regular season game was agaisnt the NY Giants whom they beat no problem. Come end of the season who was holding up the trophy?
@Greendude33 to me it's a 12 game playoff already. cfb is the only sport where i see that every game matters. 93% of coaches favor the bcs system even gary patterson and chris petersen support it. like boise for example don't have them go crying to me. "boise state don't cry to me"
'we beat virginia tech in a neutral site.'
"but u didn't beat nevada u didn't get the job done."
It just wouldnt work the same teams would win. How would it change anything. Its fine just the way it is. Every 6-6 or undefeated team a post season prize. If you get rid of the bcs, there will be no bowl games
It would be easy to set up a playoff using the current bowl system. Make all the conferences play a conference championship game and let only the conference champions compete for the NC. You shouldn't be able to play for the NC if you can't win your conference. Use the bowls to pit the conference champions against each other until they are down to the last 2 teams and let those 2 teams play for the NC.
I quite honestly can't see why anyone would care. That's why I didn't even click on this video. Then I read a column by George Will about a Texas congressman who introduced a bill to make it illegal to advertise a college championship unless it was the result of a playoff--or some such. I'm glad we have those fine Republicans to address the truly pressing issues of our day. I'm also glad they don''t want to get into anyone's private (commercial) business to do it. Hyp. Hyp. Hypocrite.
even if there was a playoff people would still complain about who makes it and who dosnt and that their matchup isnt fair.....the bcs is a fine system
People seem to have forgotten that the players are college students. Playoff games would happen during the time of final examinations, remember them? The players are exploited enough already. The schools make millions, but If I give a kid $100 to take his girlfriend to the movies, he can lose his eligibility, the school can be barred from future Bowl games, and lose most or all of it's scholarships, which hurts high schoolers. Unless you pay the players, I can't support a playoff.
ever heard of march madness? That's 64 teams and 6 games for the champion, were talking 3 games. There's ways around that, have the playoffs start after exams. The pay the players idea might not be a bad idea if all the players get paid the same amount, no matter which team they're on, if they make the playoffs
I agree with you. IF they find a way to compensate the players, and I feel ALL NCAA athletes should receive a stipend, and allowances are made for their finals, I would support playoffs. But the NCAA and the schools are too hypocritical.
csimo its also the people that contract out the bowls.....ur right it is the schools as well but its not just the schools....theres a whole list of companies that makes big bucks offa these kids and the bowl system
It will only change when 1 team from every auto-qualifying conference (Big 10, 12, E, SEC, Atlantic Coast, Pac 10) go undefeated. The perfect storm has not yet happen. 2007 was close when LSU had 2 losses. These conferences earn 18 million collectively when 1 of their teams qual for BCS, and an addition 4.5 million for any additional qualfying teams from their conference. THESE BIG CONFERENCES DONT WANT TO SHARE THE MONEY WITH SMALLER CONFERENCES!!! Its not the BCS sponsers its the schools!!
ctmiami - florida SHOULD play TCU...but not for the nat. champ.....that would be bama texas regardless....but everyone would love to see if big bad TCU would stand a chance against a legit SEC defense
It is all about the big programs not wanting to risk the guaranteed revenue that comes from the bowl games. A tournament would rake in the cash, but the NCAA would make more money than the individual schools who are at the top right now. The wealth would be more spread out. No question it would be more exciting and fair.
@cppowns- I don't see how you can possibly have Florida against TCU for the title after Alabama shut down Florida in the SEC Championship. I'm not flaming you, I'm just missing your logic. I can see maybe Alabama vs TCU, but there is no question that Alabama deserves to be in. I mean they ran the table in the SEC. I'm not an SEC fan, but it's not an easy feat.
Boise not a contender but TCU and Cincy have a chane aganist some school like Texas, Ohio State and Nebraska Cincy has been in the top 25 the past 3 years so think bout that jezzzz....... oh ya and Alabama is gonna the national championship Even though im A huge FLORIDA fan... Go Gators!!!
the only thing about nebraska is they have absolutely NO offense....but Suh is a big time player and could ALMOST win a game by himself..I say almost cuz the offense has to put the points on the board to come out on top. and i hope ohio state beats oregon..i think its likely...plus i hate the PAC-10 cuz they think they are the shit but cant back it up
The reason they put TCU and Boise State in the same game is because the BCS is scared. This is perfect for them because the "mid-major conference teams" don't have the chance to knock off one of the "big boys" and stir up more controversy about the BCS system. Basically, they're trying to avoid Utah-Alabama last year and Boise State-Oklahoma 2 years ago. The BCS doesn't care about non-AQ conferences and never has. It's unjust, and it's all about money. Playoffs are needed.
they would be an arkansas/ole miss/south carolina/auburn/georgia level SEC team AT BEST (a team that sometimes does well in some games but overall just doesnt have what it takes to rise to the top of the conference
@pieman12345678900 - teams play their bowl games all throughout the month of December, what would be the problem with using those four weeks for playoffs? the national championship isn't played till January anyway. NCAA football has the shortest season of all major sports, an extended schedule wont kill anyone.
i agree with ana, it's the education stupid. college sports is over blown. it's corporate scheming to make more money on amateur athletes, problem is, academics isn't the primary benefactor.
LOL!!! @ Notre Dame: I said way back in 2005 that firing Ty Willingham was the biggest mistake that school would ever make. And yes college football needs a playoff or a plus-1 game.
Why can't college football figure this out? It is college after all ;) In Division I-AA, Division II and Division III they have playoffs. Why not Division I? Because of greed and teams afraid to take on each other on the field to prove that most are terrible because they play weak conference schedules (USC is a prime example)
I would rather (1) go back to the old system when national champions were voted on but all the big games were played on New Year's Day; or (2) an 8 team playoff. The BCS NC Game now comes on after New Year's on a weekday night (so as not to conflict with the NFL.) A lot of folks on the West Coast are still at work or commuting home when the game starts. And not everybody can tape delay it or wants to.
every other level of football (including 1aa college) has a fucking PLAYOFF system....i live in texas (hook 'em horns)...and the high school playoffs are insanely exciting , interesting and entertaining...we have perennial powerhouse dynasties who win every year...and we have little unknown schools who make cinderella stories....the NCAA is completely full of shit with their reasons for not creating a new format....everyone who enjoy it and benefit
Boise State beat Oklahoma 43-42 in overtime. The Broncos score a touchdown and instead of kicking the extra point to tie the game, get the two point conversion to win it. Right after the game the running back for the Broncos proposes to his girlfriend, a Broncos cheerleader on the sideline.
that means nothing...oklahoma is a big 12 team (big offense...no defense) and what does the score 43-42 tell me.....hmm....the game was all offemse no defense..just the same...lets see boise against a florida or against an alabama (roll tide)...a team that prides itself on nfl style defenses.....and dont say ohh bama utah cuz andre smith (#1 offensive lineman) suspended and bc of that 3 out of 4 offensive linemen were shifted..not playing their original position! if tcu/boise were in the SEC....
It's true there are so many bowl games schedules that the NCAA and their sponsors are able to expand the schedule by a few more games.
Problem here is the greed by the sponsors. The amount of money they generate is so ridiculous, schools should share some of that money to the college athlete, but that's another topic.
Pac 10 and Big 10 have a thing going for the Rose Bowl, and I can tell you, Pac 10 fans would be disappointed if Oregon had to play against someone other then the Big 10 champs.
Newsflash btw though, even thought 99% of the U.S. wants to see CF go to a playoff, it's probably not going to happen until 2013-2014 season. I think that's when the BCS can be renegotiated
Ok, everyone knows that CF needs playoffs and every year, there are a ton of segments about CF playoffs with everyone agreeing that we need playoffs. I'm tired of the argument. Unless someone has a fresh perspective, we don't need another segment about "should CF have playoffs?"
Yes, it's long overdue. It's almost rocket science trying to truly determine who the best team in the country is. I've got a perfect idea...say 16 or 24 teams from each conference(each conference gets equal representation) meet up and have a March Madness type tournament. It would be so much more intense.
This was the BCS/NCAA's best chance to find out once and for all if the smaller conference teams (e.g., Boise State, TCU) can play with the big boys and they blew it.
I honestly think they did it cause they're afraid that Boise/TCU might win, and win handily. Then they'd have to explain why those two teams are not deserving of a National Title Game bid, ever, under no circumstances simply because they don't play in the SEC/Big12/Big10/Pac10/etc...
There were many cases of death and paralysis from the early days of football prior to modern equipment use(think leatherheads). And that was BEFORE the size, speed, agility, touch and talent of today's conditioned player. If somebody like John Randle is smashing you, you are going to want a helmet.
Oh, you forgot to take in to consideration that NFL players are bigger, stronger, faster, and the hits are much harder. Have you seen the hits that level players in the NFL? Obviously you haven't. Rugby "hits" look like girls playing patty cake compared.
Yeah, I don't know what the hell is going on with the BCS...EVERYONE who cares about college football wants a playoff. And, from what I'm reading here, many people are turned off by college football precisely because of the BCS system. Playoffs equals more viewers equals more money. At any rate, it's a huge injustice for an undefeated team to just be excluded from the opportunity to be the national champ. That's really the bottom line to me.
here is my system idea...every team play every team..2 best teams play...the team with highest points scored that is place you play game..that way you can bring money to your state..should be done in nfl that way too...
No you said you think american football is equal to rugby being played by girls and i proved your wrong with facts watch the browns and steelers tonight should be good.
the playoffs are post season games that decide who gets to play in a championship game or game that is equivalent to a championship...It's a little vague but I hope you get kind of an idea.
Yes. Take the top 8 winning records. Place them into four quarter-finals. Have the quarter-finals be the 4 major bowls.
Here's what I'd do: Sugar: Alabama (13-0) / Boise State (13-0), Orange: Texas (13-0) / TCU (12-0), Rose: Cincinnati (12-0) / Florida (12-1), and Fiesta: Georgia Tech (11-2) / Central Michigan (11-2). Under my system, University of Oregon and Ohio State University would not be involved because they were 10-2. Then have the semi-finals be the Sweet Bowl and the Party Bowl.
i agree with cenk about tcu and boise state playing each other. but if knows anything about football he should know that the big ten and pac ten winners have to play each other in the rose bowl, so they couldn't play ohio state. and its been that way for 100 years, so he should know that.
There is too much money and power tied up into the current bowl system. Plus, with conference tie ins to certain bowls. college presidents and athletic directors in the major conference don't necessarily want to see that gravy train disappear if a legitimate playoff were to come into place.
hell, that is why i don't watch college football that hard...no playoff system, and a bunch of damn undeserving teams going to bowls and shit. and the dumb bowl names...
Let us not forget the BS matchup of Florida State in the Gator Bowl. If I was the WV coach, I would tell my team to just stand there and let FL ST win, take my $2.5 million, and go home. WV deserves more, and FL ST deserves MUCH less.
Cenk, you are correct that we need a playoff in division 1 A football. Desperately. The BCS putting TCU and Boise together again is a joke. The entire world of football from pee-wee to high school to the NFL HAS A PLAYOFF!!! Everyone except the (FBS) ncaa division1A football. What a FAIL. However I do understand with keeping the tradition of Pac 10 V Big 10 in the Rose Bowl Oregon vs Ohio State. Should have been TCU VS Florida, and Boise vs Cincy.
TCU sucks, they won't get to play a big team because that game would be a blowout. They can't even hold a candle to Boise. Looking forward to the Florida/Cincy matchup.
There were a limited number of good college teams this year. Sorry, but every one of the teams you mentioned is not that good. Utah? BYU? Even Boise State come on man let them play a real team like last year's Florida or LSU's 2007 team with Glen Dorsey and see what happens. Also, doing ??? doesn't make you smart. :)
Even with the playoff system, the same teams will make it to the top games.
Its still going to be Fla, Bama, Tex, Cinci, TCU, and Boise, probably LSU, Miami, Ohio st, USC, Stanford and Sooners playing the final games most of the time.
Anyways, we should try the system to see how profitable and successful it is before we start to rip each other over the issue.
No..too many games and the bowl systems about rewarding the players and finishing their season in a fun way. They get gifts and have parties and enjoy themselves. With a playoff 8 top tier teams would miss out and 7 would get no reward at all.

Would schools like Butler ever got a chance if collge basketball had a BCS style system?
Greendude33 1 year ago
@Greendude33 I understand and it's respectable. u have a great question about butler. basketball is a physical sport. football is a violent game and that's why they have a bowl system. college kids aren't equipped to handle 16 games a season. the last few years there have been top 5 teams playing each other in conference championships. if one loses they would probably still be ranked in the top 8. this is why i don't favor an eight team playoff or more. players don't want a 8 or 16 team playoff.
Hawkeyesownyou1 1 year ago
@Hawkeyesownyou1 Valid point.
Greendude33 1 year ago
@Greendude33 look i do agree with u that there shouldn't be any fbs playing fcs schoolsthe real solution is putting boise and tcu in bcs conferences and when that's done u will only need a four team playoff at most.
Hawkeyesownyou1 1 year ago
@Hawkeyesownyou1 It's the administrations, sponsors, etc that want BCS the players, coaches and fans or in other words the majority and true heart and soul of the sport do not support the BCS system.
Not only that but alot of these players are playing for a shot at the next level and If they cannot handle a competitive atmosphere to determine the best team, then they don't belong playing football.
Champions are made by settling it out on the field not polls.
Greendude33 1 year ago
@Greendude33 if we have an 8 or 16 team playoff what's the point of conference championships, expansions, regular season. bcs teams could lose two games and say no problem while non bcs schools will be fighting their guts out just to stay in the race. and having politicians getting involved of forcing cfb to have a playoff and it's none of their fuckin business because they got other things to worry in washington that r more important
Hawkeyesownyou1 1 year ago
@Hawkeyesownyou1 amazing how ncaa div. 1aa div. 2 and div. 3 have football playoffs and you have never heard any complaints from any players coaches university administrators and fans of the participating colleges. the BCS is a hypocritical joke and a blatent violation of the anti trust laws that are implemented in this nation.
chitownmo 1 year ago
@chitownmo which is exactly why the non bcs schools are going to bcs conferences. do u really think a 5 loss team should have a shot at the national title? boise had the opportunity to go to the pac 10 but they decided to go to the MWC. the only playoff i would go to is a four team playoff
Hawkeyesownyou1 1 year ago
@Hawkeyesownyou1 It's so irrelevant if you lose to one team in the regular season.
Remeber the 2007 New England Patriots 16-0 Regular Season. Last Regular season game was agaisnt the NY Giants whom they beat no problem. Come end of the season who was holding up the trophy?
The best team is NOT made in the regular season.
Greendude33 1 year ago
@Greendude33 to me it's a 12 game playoff already. cfb is the only sport where i see that every game matters. 93% of coaches favor the bcs system even gary patterson and chris petersen support it. like boise for example don't have them go crying to me. "boise state don't cry to me"
'we beat virginia tech in a neutral site.'
"but u didn't beat nevada u didn't get the job done."
Hawkeyesownyou1 1 year ago
@Hawkeyesownyou1 could that be because they are paid off to say as such or are threatened with damage to their credibility?
chitownmo 1 year ago
It just wouldnt work the same teams would win. How would it change anything. Its fine just the way it is. Every 6-6 or undefeated team a post season prize. If you get rid of the bcs, there will be no bowl games

Wayneman117 1 year ago
It would be easy to set up a playoff using the current bowl system. Make all the conferences play a conference championship game and let only the conference champions compete for the NC. You shouldn't be able to play for the NC if you can't win your conference. Use the bowls to pit the conference champions against each other until they are down to the last 2 teams and let those 2 teams play for the NC.
brownhornet22 2 years ago
how about a combination of both systems? maybe play the playoffs, then after the championship, play the bowls based on playoff ranks. Think About it.

Hyp. Hyp. Hypocrite.

than 1-1 for title

People seem to have forgotten that the players are college students. Playoff games would happen during the time of final examinations, remember them? The players are exploited enough already. The schools make millions, but If I give a kid $100 to take his girlfriend to the movies, he can lose his eligibility, the school can be barred from future Bowl games, and lose most or all of it's scholarships, which hurts high schoolers. Unless you pay the players, I can't support a playoff.
alkh3myst 2 years ago
ever heard of march madness? That's 64 teams and 6 games for the champion, were talking 3 games. There's ways around that, have the playoffs start after exams. The pay the players idea might not be a bad idea if all the players get paid the same amount, no matter which team they're on, if they make the playoffs
4545gino 2 years ago
I agree with you. IF they find a way to compensate the players, and I feel ALL NCAA athletes should receive a stipend, and allowances are made for their finals, I would support playoffs. But the NCAA and the schools are too hypocritical.

Its not the BCS sponsers its the schools!!

downawang23 2 years ago
It is all about the big programs not wanting to risk the guaranteed revenue that comes from the bowl games. A tournament would rake in the cash, but the NCAA would make more money than the individual schools who are at the top right now. The wealth would be more spread out. No question it would be more exciting and fair.

@cppowns- I don't see how you can possibly have Florida against TCU for the title after Alabama shut down Florida in the SEC Championship. I'm not flaming you, I'm just missing your logic. Playoffs are needed.
spaik113 2 years ago

Why can't college football figure this out? It is college after all ;) In Division I-AA, Division II and Division III they have playoffs. Why not Division I? Because of greed and teams afraid to take on each other on the field to prove that most are terrible because they play weak conference schedules (USC is a prime example)
djgeoffe 2 years ago
I would rather (1) go back to the old system when national champions were voted on but all the big games were played on New Year's Day; or (2) an 8 team playoff. The BCS NC Game now comes on after New Year's on a weekday night (so as not to conflict with the NFL.) A lot of folks on the West Coast are still at work or commuting home when the game starts. And not everybody can tape delay it or wants to.

It's true there are so many bowl games schedules that the NCAA and their sponsors are able to expand the schedule by a few more games.

Yes, it's long overdue. It's almost rocket science trying to truly determine who the best team in the country is. I've got a perfect idea...say 16 or 24 teams from each conference(each conference gets equal representation) meet up and have a March Madness type tournament. It would be so much more intense.
lubegz 2 years ago
I couldn't agree more Cenk.

YES, a playoff system is much needed for college football. Look at TCU getting fucked over, they should be in the BCS.
