I just hate the damn concept of powered parachutes, they suck, they fold over, put you in a death spiral and your lucky if you don't tear up the chute dragging it on the ground wile taking off and they look gay.
Thanks for uploading! A forward launch says little wind... Little wind says longer run for takoff... beach and sand says difficult to run on.... sea out front says all or nothing take off.... water says death if landed in...
I think this pilot should hug his family he is lucky to be alive and this video is a great example of how not to choose a flying site and how to make bad decisions that add to the death toll and ruen the sport.
Hmmm. If he had only gone for training at BajaPPG.com nothing bad would ever happen to him. Probably wasn't a Flat-top unit on his back either, with the new special Search and Rescue lever attachment.
Hahaha! It's always fun to watch other people make mistakes. Youtube has taught me a lot about PPG. What instructors can't teach me I figure this website can, and I hope I can avoid the situations that cause these bad results. I think here he was pulling on his brakes which will only increase drag to slow you down. It doesn't help keep the chute inflated real well. Ah... I was instructed by fellow PPG pilots and not true "instructors" though so maybe I don't know what I'm talking about.
I'm a fixed wing private pilot, so I don't anything about this sport. But just looking at the setup, my experience tells me everything is wrong... wind, length of take-off, etc... Glad he didn't get hurt.
Great, just what you need when relaxing on the beach, so cunt who cant fly (or he wouldn't have a parapente) with a motor buzzing around for half an hour whilst he hets enough height to fuck off!!
Umm yeah like the guy said under me and I'm not sure your not going anywhere today :) water in the gas tank nope it will be a while before you can get back up thr
Let me give you a little pointer. If you takeoff into the wind and longway on the beach instead of trying to walk on the water,I think you'll notice a big difference.OK , lets give it another try Spanky.
poor planning leads to piss poor performance, almost all failures in this sport can be traced back to the idiot making the decisions. Short beach, wing not stabilised, outcome obviuos. Shame.
Sorry about the crash. I bet the video would have been a great one. It looks like you have tons of money invested in your gear and I wonder now, how expensive this crash must have been.
I also think that the pilot's positive attitude is a great for the kids that watch this and commend you for that .
I just wanted to say thanks for sharing this video
Must of had a very big lunch...but seriously everybody makes mistakes...we can all learn from this video, after eating wait 1 hour before you go swimming..Thanks for sharing Peace.V.
There is no humor in this, actually is very sad. Too many "veteran pilots" are "veteran idiots". Too many years flying without proper training at start = more difficult to train old dogs. No wind, poor thrust, he runs like a bradipo and finally he stalls the right side of the wing. Yes he is ready to fly... but engines aren't margaritas...they don't like salt. And where is the video of his next lunch with a wet glider?
I do not dissagree with your general premise that there are a lot of under-trained "veteran" PPG pilots out there. That being said, I assure you that the pilot in this video is highly competent. I will spare you his credencials but I arrure you he is one of the best pilots in Nort America. Just goes to show you that nobody's perfect!
@mpurdy007 What we can't hear is the engine. Just one little hiccup and massive loss of power. In those conditions, in the video, everything would have to be near perfect. A hiccup in the engine isn't necessarily the pilots fault. It can happen at any time with a 2 stroke... I hate em....
@TSEBEHTMI1 I agree with mpurdy007 he is very good He has many years of trainning and flying I met him with a flying group. he also joinned several long distance flying expadition. His friends say hes a very very good pilot.and i've seen him launch on short beaches. everybody makes mistakes sometimes.
this is why I love ultralights. Okay,,so we're here at the beach,,people standing around,,,dude shows up,,,put's on his pretty little hat,,,huge fan on his back,,,lays' out his bright colored chute,,,begging for attention,,he could be flying somewhere realistic,,instead,,he's setting up in a marginal area,,,guy's thinking,,wow,,what an idiot,,,girls looking at him all stary eyed,,then he proves,,,hey,,,look at me,,I suffer from the small penis syndrome,,,,SPLASH,,,,,takes a bath. LOL!!!!!!
This is why I love snotty GA types. Okay, so we're at my expensive hanger doing a 1 hr preflight, thinking about my last check flight and fees, announcing my flight plan, monitoring the radio...hey what am I doing here, anyway? When is the flying part? Is all my gaudy and expensive equipment intended to hide my insecurity from the world? Will they know that I am secretly jealous of the well-hung ultralight pilots? If my mom will let me use the computer, I'll comment on YouTube instead.
LOL,,,,look's like someone woke up,,,,,dude,,,,I would lay money on the fact that I've got wayyyyyyyyy more time in ultralights than you've got flying anythink, including your sofa. Seriously,,my frustration stem's from guy's flying these paragliders in marginal places,,,slowly eroding the safety record that these little units have. I have had to put up with the "snotty GA Types" since the late 80's while I was putting around the sky in my Weedhoppers, Quicksilvers, Phantoms, Tbirds,etc.....
Lift MUST equal weight. Thrust MUST equal drag. Airspeed creates lift, which creates drag, which reduces airspeed. Your engine couldn't overcome weight and drag at the same time, even if the wing is able to glide with the weight.
Dude, you need something more powerful for that kind of short runway, like a Simonini, with plenty of extra thrust to save your ass in a situation like this.
I tried to post a link to Richard Thompson's truly amazing version of this song but it doesn't seem to work. Anyway, it's on youtube so just search for yourself and enjoy!
ancoraluna - The music is, "She moved through the fair", a traditional Irish folksong. Can't help you with the version. Extra bit of trivia: "Belfast Child" by Simple Minds is based on the melody.
I'd say he's doing pretty good. He's gotten over 200,000 hits! The trouble is almost all of them from smartasses. Dell wishes he had this exposure.
