  • You were so nice! Really nicely handled...Subbed! xox

  • most of those sloppy ones were done by a guy

  • Thank you, Risa! I recognized myself in a LOT of the pictures and I shall start tweezing up my act...tomorrow. You are so helpful and polite. I wish I could teleport you into my bathroom every morning so you could help me put on my best face.

  • i love that you shown that everyone starts somewhere ! i love geting new ideas from gurus on youtube for my projects... but i can not stand 98 percent of them .. i am sooo glad i can subcribe to your channel and make you my number three goto guru lol : D

  • I actually like how you looked in 13:35 I think you could pull off the brows and lips VERY well.

  • You actually happen to be rather cute, thank you for your video playback. it's miserable im living in Elizabethtown simply because i can't find decent makeup, though i get 100 percent free samples through "GratisMakeupSamples". i love Sally Hansen cosmetics!

  • @ailbe094495

Haha, my most expensive haul was like 110 at the Urban Decay store in Japan!!!

Okie dokie because I guess your tiny bit lazy, this will take you to MACs free makeup contest that you might have heard about on their twitter site :D

    shortener。org/37348

Post a comment if ya get one I will post a video of my most recent haul sometime soon

  • Great, great informative video!!

  • I actually found this hilarious lol

  • I can be a brow nazi, too. Today I told my friend Tyler that I wanted to take my tweezers, tie him down to a chair, and pluck pluck pluck. His brows drive me NUTS sometimes!

  • Honestly, I've never been a friend of frost shadows. I think Matte's are a little harder to blend, but I absolutely LOVE mattes.

  • u were a chola who would have thunk it lol jk anyway I LOVE MATTE SHADOWS also u really can't have a well balanced look with definition without a matte shadow great video

  • Very helpful, you give a lot of usefull tips.... thanks for the Video, you are amazing!

  • i think the colour on top of the eyebrow at 10:55 was on purpose. wetpaintmakeupartist on youtube does hers like that too

  • i don't think so why would u put white if ur dark and wetpaint youtube video ur talking about she does not have white its a lighter version of her skin tone i do that same sometimes maybe this chick just got some brow highlight up there atleast i hope cause if she is walking around with white up there some one please tell her!!

  • Great video! Very helpful!

  • Brownatzi!!! Hahahahaha!!! I´m stealing that one :p Great vid! Byyyee!

  • Wow... I was surprised to see my picture in this video. Thanks a lot for your advice ^^

  • Great video, Risa!! Loved your recreations of of your own looks! I should go through my old makeup photos and do the same!

  • GREAT video Risa!!! I cant recall whether I ever ended up sending a look in for this! Im going to though!

  • that was really interesting and helpful! Thank You!!

  • Very helpfull video Risa! thanks for the feedback, alhtough I did not send any pictures this time, ifu you do another feedback video, I will.

  • Great video Risa! Please do more of these, as they are very helpful :). Thanks for being such a wonderful teacher.

  • last look was amazing!

  • I think the fascination with frosty eyeshadow comes from the fact that most low end eyeshadows come only in frosty finishes. It's what most people start off using, and even when we start using high end makeup we end up using what is familiar and thus comfortable :) plus, frosty colors are often prettier than matte colors. I don't think that makeup companies focus enough energy on making pretty matte colors available to the average consumer.

  • very well said ......took the words right out of my mouth : )

  • i meant thanx :)

  • yess risa than!

  • Risa you said it all. i think you took the words out of my mouth. these were all great but with minor complications. if that makes sense. haha

  • the critiques u gave were so clear and helped so much for those of us who don't train at make up schools and just learn via youtube, thank you so much for this video, and to every who sent in their pictures. many thanks again! xx

  • Loved it! I hope the ladies did not take anything personal.. kudos to them for entering their photos & to you for your honest & professional evaluation.

  • great video!!! very appreciative of this. it really helped me a lot!!

  • Very inspiring, especially seeing your timeline on how you improved. Definitely gave me hope lol.

  • I really appreciate that you posted pictures of your make up when you were a beginner like most of us, you inspired me to practice I thought I had no hope, Thanks for this video and your inspiration.

  • how can i get shadow sparkles so stay on my lids etc.?

  • i bought MACs mixing medium gel for their glitter and reflects glitters

xsparkage did one video, and used moisterizer for a reflects glitter.

although most glitter isnt' reccomended for the eye area, sallys boutique (if you have one where you live) sells some kind of glitter adhesive

  • 16:16

    wow!!!

  • dear risa, could you re do the look on 15.34? I would love to see your take on it now. thank you so much for the video, this is so helpful. boy, i ve got a long way to go.

  • Beautifully composed Risa. You rock at constructive criticism! You're a superstar xxx

  • this was so informative! i got a lot out of it. and now i feel like i should go pluck my brows. ha

  • you have a cloud in your eye.

    but other than that..

    the looks sent were fantastic.

i award them for having so much courage to send them for criticism.

  • lol it's a freckle.

  • i commend you, its so hard to give constructive feedback without people taking it personally.

  • omg I love the honesty!

  • 03:37 raccoon omg lol love the honesty! avant garde! haha most def

  • I think it looks pretty

  • raccoon never actually popped into my head, i was really bored, and had my old makeup on underneat, and i had just bought mutiny pigment that day, and i was like

"what the hell" and just did it.

  • Is the person at 13:00 with the good makeup and lashes using eye enhancer by chance?

  • Loved that timeline of your makeup! I CAN'T believe you came that far in 10 years. I'm shocked!

  • The last one was AMAZING!

  • LOL at 4:45 that is the same thing i thought lol i dont know why but i love your bluntness.

  • Love 12:50 I would so wear that. Good job girls!

  • OMG 4:38 was horrible!!!

  • OMG maybe some people are trying to grow there brows out or maybe they dont have their twezzers jeeezeee.

And some people like shimmer more than matte.

But other than that i really like how you showed how you improved i loooooove looove the last picture and the picture you showed you redid OH and i love you eyeshape when it has eyeliner

  • it's called feedback.

  • SUCH A GREAT IDEA!! thank youuu! and thnks for being honest on your opinions!

  • This was great Risa! I love flashback makeup pictures where you can see how you progressed! :) I wish I had more pics of my highschool days of dark brown and blue smokey eyes and dark pink/brown lips when I was so fair skinned with blonde hair hehe thanks for the awesome video!

  • thnak you Risa i was suprised to see my eye 1st but yeah thank you for the imput and feedback it will help me soo much i love this idea i wish you would have done it sooner

  • Did you use all the photos that were sent to you, or did you just pick random ones?

  • I didn't use all that were sent because I knew the video would be long enough as it is. Also, some the lighting was too poor, others were photoshopped to death- which defeats the purpose. The ones I didn't include that were of decent quality (photo-wise) I'll include in a different series.

  • Okie doke. :) Thanks for the response. I appreciate it.

  • So great of you to help us aspiring artists! Thanks for posting this video!

  • i really loved this video i learned alot from some of the other peoples mistakes that i am making to!

  • I think we "avoid" matte eyeshadows because they are harder to find-- especially in drugstore brands, and they are less forgiving. Matte eyeshadows are harder to blend because they show application flaws more than shimmery eyeshadows which reflect light.

  • I thankfully NEVER went through the over plucking stage. But that's my biggest pet peeve as well. I hate drawn on brows.

  • i love this video!!!! it helped sooo much. even though u do talk us through tutorials,u are good at makeup so dont really make mistakes to show us how 2 do it better.this teaches us how 2 do it on our own and not just copy ur tutorial looks. LOVE THESE!!!

  • i REALLY think you should start a series on critque on makeup.

    pleeeasssseee

  • i love this video...i loved how u used ur own makeup "evolution" (lol) as an example..

  • can you please please please please post the products used for the 3rd picture in this video. im in dire need of knowing the crease colour in particular.

    THANK YOU

  • I think this video was great. I like that you showed some your own looks from when you first got into make up. I dont think you were over critical. The people that submitted these pictures requested you to critique them and you did it professionally.

  • i dont understand why people ask to be critiqued on their work. makeup artistry is an art and there are no rules to an art. other people's opinion is simply pointless when it comes to that because it is your own creation. catering to everyone else's likings is not necessary when it is an art...

with that said, i appreciate you taking the time out to give advice for people :)

  • Getting makeup critiques is no different than getting any other critique. You're always going to do it your own way but there is always advice to make you better at what you do. It's not about changing who you are, it's about making yourself better. Plus, these people seeked out her advice so they could improve.

  • Risa, these are delicate situation. I'm not one to comment much but I observe a lot. MOST of the folks who are watching make-up videos on YT like to be spoon fed. You'll be damn if what you feed them is not sugarcoated to their liking! They'll crucify you.

I absolutely love your take on the pics. I immediately picked on the same things myself. On the black lady with white above her eyebrow, it's a concealer. I hate it when people do that!

  • please please please can you post what the name of the products used in the last look are ....? the purple/blue/iridescent look with the nice brows.

  • She emailed me and this is what she said:

black base all over my lid

    hello kitty too dolly quad

aquadisiac in crease(didnt really show up, so its not neccessary haha)

    atlantic blue outer corner/crease

    crystal avalanche in inner corner

    vanilla as highlight

violet pigment in waterline and to line lid

    loreal voluminous mascara

  • thank you so much.

I really like the tips you gave- I used them for an eye look I did tonight to go to a halloween party and it came out so much better using a matte crease color. Which I've formally stayed away from because they're a little irritating, but I just really packed it on over a good base and BLENDED- it came out great!

  • There was nothing wrong with this video...the feedback was constructive..critism...if ppl can't handle that...then they shouldn't ask for it-period

This was handled very eloquently and she even made a point to show her own faults...U can't ask for better than that...If it sounded as thought she were constant picking...well its the pictures...Obviously ppl saw their own looks and thought..something's wrong with this...only i don't know what...So u ask someone- you may not always like what u hear

  • oh ya...definitely need to clean brows..Almost everywhere u noticed brows..so did i...I'm a brow natzi too..Not a fan of shaving brows..or of frosty shadows..-the whole look of frost shadows..I always have been a fan of matte shadows...never did i like frost...I'll use it..but then each time i do...i hate it..lol..

  • Some of the feedback in this video was misplaced. I think that the feedback was given to make the looks more your style. [Add darkness for depth, blend it out, pluck your eyebrows, no sharp creases, blah blah blah]. There are different styles and I don't believe that people should be scolded because they have a different style than you. I love you, Risa, but there's a difference between constructive criticism and making people conform to what you like. [Now's the time where I get 50 thumbs down]

  • this is exactly what im trying to say. people dont need creases and top liner etc. to be right. theres no right way to do a look/trend

  • Yeah, I know. I'm not trying to cause a big fuss or anything, but there's never just one right way to do ANYTHING. Except maybe breathe, and we all know how to do that...

  • i wasnt starting anything either people always take things the wrong way and attack. most of people on here dont listen unless you;'re like i love this omg. etc. if you have anything else to say you might as well be ready for a comment war. its kind of ridiculous. people cant just listen to people. whatever though. im over this. ciao. lol

  • No I actually agree with you, and no one should thumb this down. Which is why I said "personal preference". Especially with makeup there aren't necessarily rules. I did this because people often ask me for feedback and my opinion. My intention wasn't to scold anyone and I missed where I did that??? Even in the case of shaving brows off - that's not something I like, but as I said, if you're going to do it, at least make sure it looks clean.

  • but these people send in these pictures to get this kind of criticism! i actually liked this video a lot...

  • I see what you're saying, however, these people DID submit their pics for her criticism.

  • I totally agree with you saying there's no right way to do makeup, it's your way, but these people sought out her opinion on their looks and she's going to do the best she can to help them. I don't think Risa was being too harsh or trying to teach them to do it exactly like her, she was just giving constructed criticism.

  • your feedback was perfect !

im so happy to have it :)

  • can you please post the product list that you used for the 3rd picture in this video, the lightest of the three.

  • I remember you talking about the importance of mattes, so I got bottle green eyeshadow instead of humid a while back. Thanks for the tips!

  • I can't hear anything but static with all volumes I can find turned up :(

  • I'm sorry! I know the audio sucks and is sooooo low. I am going to do more feedback videos in the future, but I just have to find a better editing program so that you all can hear me clearly. :/

  • you are soo awesome..and very honest..i love it!

  • This is a great video! Thanks so much for doing this!

  • I found this very informative. Thanks

  • you are so cool. thank you for doing this. this is one of the best ideas i have ever seen on here. very helpful.

  • great video....and also if you do end up getting an email about the colors used in the look with all the purples (the last look) email me too!!!...lol....i thought those colors were FUH-nominal!...thanks

  • that last pic is awesome, you should make it your profile picture.

  • You are an amazing teacher. The fact that you can be objective and criticize your own makeup skills is really quite impressive. It is obvious you have grown immensely as a makeup artist because of your ability to learn and be open. Thanks for being so real...it is refreshing! xx

  • Thanks hun! As with anything in life, unless we can be objective, we really can't learn anything, because our ego tends to get in the way. I do believe that there's always room for improvement. And I'm glad that this video was (mostly) received well. When I have the chance to learn from someone with more experience than me, who will point out my flaws and how I can fix them, I always jump at the opportunity. When we stop learning, we stop growing.

  • 5 stars, so helpful! ty Risa!

  • Oh and I don't like frosty. I usually go with matte and I need to try to work into frost more haha :X

  • Never went through the eyebrow thing. I hope I never do.

  • Great constructive criticism and tips.

    PLEASE do this one again!

  • love this video!! more more more~!!

  • This is amazing! I didn't send a picture, but the video was still very helpful!

  • This was great, Im glad people can take constructive criticism and I LOVE that last girl's look!

  • wonderful vid! I love this idea...thanks so much for taking the time to do this...very helpful!

  • Awesome video!

  • kudos to you...thanks I didn't submit anything but I will shortly. Very helpful

  • Fantastic advice!

  • Comment removed

  • ughh 3:44 is aweful lol

  • constructive criticism.

  • Comment removed

  • very informative, thank you!!!! i love your channel!!!

  • what's w/ the dark spot on her eyeball/iris?

  • It's just a freckle that has always been there.

  • WOW! This is such a helpful video. I am so glad there is something new on YT.

  • I think you did this in a great way.

I tried pausing it at each picture and guessing what you were going to say. I usually got it right! So now, I'm going to internalize your voice to critique my own makeup, because sometimes I have a hard time seeing what I need to do to improve, even though it's obvious I need some help.

Thanks for taking the time to help out others.

  • ugh, i hate that buzzing on her audio.

  • I know! I'm sorry. I won't be doing another feedback video until I can figure out how to record the audio on my camera because my laptop sucks.

  • OMG! So helpful... picking a look to send you for some constructive loving!

  • This was a great idea for a video, looking foward to more of them. I'm just shocked at some of the pics people submitted.

  • i think the reason why everyone used so much frost finish eyeshadows, is just because, looking at them IN THE PAN, they look so much more appealing than matte ones :P

I'm building up my matte collection now ^^ I need more matte shadows, but the shimmery ones are just tooooo enticing XD

thanks for this video, very helpful :)

  • this is an awesome idea!!!!! ill definitely send something because im just getting used to wearing eyeshadow

  • Risa thanks, I've learned a lot from you. I now use your technique of throwing some color in my crease area before applying lid color. My eye is shaped a little bit like yours. So your vids help me a lot. Nice commentary without being hard on people.

  • yey my one is the video still :D

  • Risa-tastic!!!

  • 12:50 into the video... PLEASE WHOEVER DID THIS DEEP PURPLE LOOK! contact me... OR put up a video of how you did it or something!!!! would love to know!

  • I LOVE the last viewer submitted look (before your pics)... if you find out what she used- please please pleas re-create it or let us know! I am dying to know. its amazing!!!

  • at 15:12 it looks like you used shimmer for an eyebrow color lol

and btw it looks like you have a puzzle piece in your eye color.. super cute.

love the vids keep em coming :)

  • This video is great and shows common mistakes ALL of us have made at some point-- kudos to the girls (and at least one guy) who submitted photos and helped us all learn. I'm glad that in one of your old photos you showed how you can mess up lashes, Risa. Clumpy or old mascara can make lashes look awful, which draws attention from gorgeous makeup.

  • you´re so great!!!

It´s so nice that you help us getting better and recommend things!!

  • 4:27 Jeffree Star brows XD

  • amazing.

thank you for saying what needed to be said.

    I have a question.

how do you get the line so sharp and clean in the crease? i normally get a lot of fall out on my lid from blending color on my brown bone...

  • i think i know who was the person at 9:09

  • She was very nice with her feed back! She wasn't rude about the eyebrow thing. I would have been way more rude then that! What is wrong with people sending close up eye shots with ungroomed eyebrows? dorks!

  • IM FROM PICTURES 2,3 & 4.

my brows grow so fast :|

hahaha, thanks so much for the feedback its going to come in VERY handy.

ps. in picture 4, my eyebrow appointment was the next morning, i didnt leave the house like that haha.

    thanks risa ! :)

  • those are your eyes? i was just thinking "that chick has pretty eyes!" haha

  • awe thank you :) haha

  • can you please please please please post the product list that you used for the 3rd picture in this video, the lightest of the three. im in dire need of knowing the crease colour in particular.

  • Lid: Brule (satin)

    Tearducts: Gesso (matte)

Crease: Saddle (matte) - blend out with a 217 using - Kid (veluxe)

kid is the best eyeshadow every, im in love with it.

  • thank youuuu!!!!!!!!!!

  • You're my frikkin' idol Robbo!! xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

  • lmfao, my teacher calls me robbo.

some people here are such dicks, and need to get over themselves

  • Well in that case you teacher is a legend. And yes indeed. Some people should really get over themselves and teach themselves not to be completely rude and mouthy morons!! xx

  • i think its just harder to find cheapermatte colours like from drugstoes

    it sucks :(

  • GAH what is the deal with all these girls and their eyebrows all over their face! If you take the time to fill in your brows, why not take the time PLUCK them before you do so. It really makes a hugeeee difference in your finished product.

  • er where was she rude? people need to get over themselves. these people sent these to get constructive criticism, she never said omg that horrifix, she always said why she liked it, and what she thought should be improved

plucking your brows isnt an insult, its a criticism that some one can act upon, people need to get over themselves

  • its called constructive criticism. And she wasnt being rude, its not like she said "Hey your eye makeup looks like shit" she was giving honest answers to what these people wanted. She was in no way bashing these people and I really wouldnt want her to kiss ass either because I think that would be just as bad.

Risa, I think you did a great job and you were in no way rude.

And hey its as the old saying goes..

"Can't take the heat, get the fuck out of the kitchen"

  • I honestly thought she was being nice. LOL

  • You were brave to do this video because there will always be someone who won´t understand. I found it really helpful. You were very polite and, the bottom line is these pleople sent you their pictures for you to judge. The final part showing us how much you improved... priceless. It really gives us hope. :) Thank you.

  • thank you so much!

  • I never went through the thin brow stage -- my mom wouldn't let me. She took me to get my eyebrows waxed and I told the dude I wanted them like pencil lines and he's like uh no, thin's not in. So I was always good about that I guess... I did always use frosty shimmery colors too, never really matte's. But now matte's are my favorite =]

  • Haha same for me! I went (and still go) to this large intimidating russian woman who didn't "believe" in thin brows. Looking back, I was lucky, because thin brows would have looked awful on me!

  • I LOVE this! Thank you, Risa!

Can we still send in pictures of eye makeup? Or is it just cheeks, foundation and lips now?

  • you can send me whatever you'd like! I'd actually prefer full face pictures so I can crop them accordingly. :)

  • Great idea, but HORRIBLE VIDEO.

    Not normal for you.

    D:

  • she asked if we wanted this.

    people sent in there feedback

    she made the video.

    go fuck yourself?

  • IM Talking about the QUALITY.

Think about it, I think I could stand to watch the whole fucking thing if the sound wasnt so horrible.

I love Risa, and all her videos, so why dont you get off of your little defensive high and grow a brain.

  • :\ jesus christ, excuse me.

considering the sound errors were stated at the start...

people are supposed to assume you're talking about quality right off the bat...

  • That was awesome. Thank you.

  • also, lighting does play a role in how a picture turns out, just a thought to the viewers when they you photos

  • haha so true!!! Most teens go thru that ''more thin than thin'' eyebrows thing... I know I was one of them. And my sister was and is still one of them.

  • Thank you for posting this! It is extremely helpful.

  • thanks for feedback - it was really good

  • well THEY did ask for her feedback

  • she wasnt rude, they did ask for her opinion & i didnt think she was nasty with the comments.

i didnt say you were bashing her. maybe they asked about the eyebrows, idk. why would you tell her to get over herself when she was only providing advice?

  • seriously? your calling her rude?

is that a joke.. she couldnt have said the feddback in a nicer way?

  • Youre entitled to your opinion. What youre missing is that THESE PEOPLE ASKED FOR MY CONSTRUCTIVE. I didn't just think "hey, lemme be all high and mighty and bash people". Nowhere in this was I rude and I'm sorry you feel that way, but you're wrong.

  • im not missing anything. i understand why i just dont think u had to pick that much. i mean eye makeup & just makeup in general is art. & if everyone had liner, brow highlight & a crease in their every look. it gets kinda old to look at. maybe u & ur "fans" think im wrong but im not the only one. this video was the thought that counted trying to help out. but i think it couldve been delivered better. ya know? and i dont think ur the type to have a chip on ur shoulder. ur a good person.
