  • you should talk about the sega disney games on the genesis they where the best on that system

  • 3rd one was pretty. good.. for snes(or super famicom. i call it. snes).. as i remember... i dont know about now .. but i have pretty good memeries about them...

  • LOL You thought Aladdin on Genesis was hard? XD

  • @Blurillaz It was, dipshit.

  • @ClassicGameLover Beat the whole game without dying when I was 8...

  • I really enjoy your review style. It's simple to the point yet seems really sincere. It's refreshing not to have the person reviewing constantly acting silly or being obnoxiously loud. Don't get me wrong, I still enjoy videos from AVGN and the like, but the HVGN has made a fan out of me. Don't change what you are doing. :)

  • OMG! Aladdin, that's the game I played! I passed that level in one day! Thanks, Happy Video Game Nerd, for showing that part.

  • OH :D Beetle Adventuring racing <3

Favourite racer on my N64 :D

    (don't talk about funracer ...

  • Hell yeah! I agree all the way! The SNES version of Aladdin is better than that overrated train wreck called the Genesis version which was made by Virgin Games who also made that abomination known as CYBERCOP! And other crap like Mick & Mack and Super Caesar's Palace.

  • OMG the magical quest 1 have not played that in forever.I was never able to beat the last boss ☆

  • I would really like a new Dino Crisis.

  • Thanks for mentioning Castle of Illusion. It's one of my all time fav genesis games, but it seemed like no one had ever heard of it. Even to this day the Giant and the Witch are some of my favorite bosses.

  • oh fuck u its a catchy song it is

  • Nice end music, it is Turrican 3 on Genesis.

Do you ever played Turrican 1/2 on the C64/Amiga500?

  • it's kinda funny when you talk about the Magical Quest games. I mean I never got to play them as a kid either, but I still found them pretty fun despite a few short comings (that dash button would've made a hell of a difference xP).

Even though they're not the most fast paced games, they had a few unique, fun quirks to it, especially the costumes. Funny you mentioned the grappling hook cuz, I never really had a problem with it. xD

I respect your preferences nonetheless. Great reviews dude! :D

  • Oh, come on the Genesis Alladin was not THAT hard! I beat it in just a week, which back in the day, when I could only get new games on Christmas and birthdays, meant that it was pretty damn easy and kinda short...

  • AGH!!!! I envy you, you have E.V.O. >.<

  • are that wine with alcohole or not

  • the genesis version are still good

  • I think genesis version is the same as on PC and it was hard and I never beat the final boss. But it isn't as hard as Lion King, because I never even got to the final boss.

  • if HVGN said "LJN is awesome"

and Irate Gamer said "LJN sucks"

haters would say "LJN is awesome! because Irate Gamer is not funny"!

  • @spiersaz being realistic, who cares about the IG anymore? Anyways, being serious now, the IG's review is justifiable for a few reasons:

    1) He had to cheats to reach the end and even makes a cocky statement about the game being too easy

    2) He never bothered learning all the controls (such as clicking R to use Aladdin's shirt as a parachute to reach that red gem he kept idiotically jumping at)

    3) all the irate trademarks such as being uninformative and boring, so on and so forth.

  • i fucking love kingdom hearts it was my life win i was 7 to 10 years old.

    good times gooooood times.

  • EVO: Search for eden! ...yes, the rest was really good, too. ;)

  • hey, that's not how you drink wine!

  • Campcom...just give us Megaman X 9 on 16 bit graphics like you did with megaman 9:( *wishfull thinking*

  • @Kidanis I can't agree enough, that would be a dream come true.

  • @Dilbez Oh God yes it would make my life complete.Playable zero,X, AXL(maybe don't like him much) and the end of sigma? one can dream

  • I love the magical quest 1, i use to play it as a kid... god it's was hard but acctuallly is really short i can beat it now in 1 hour, and the first boss is really easy, you just have too spin his "kids" and throw them too him.

  • I think I saw one of the magical quest games for the gba for 5 dollars on eBay

  • Aladdin on NES is the hardest. (The unofficial version)

  • Magical Quest isn't boring, i really don't know what you're talking about.

  • MONEK POWER

  • FUCK RIDICULOUS HARD

  • The background music is too loud. Is that my problem?

  • Goof Troop was by far my fav game!

  • You LUCKY ones. In USA the Aladdin game looked awesome. But in my country, Hummer Team played dirty. They ported this game to Famiclone devices ( Istill own them). And you don't belive it. IT WAS PRETTY GOOD. So either way: If you own a licensed Aladdin in your NES: Throw it tp the garbage, the unofficial is way better.

  • My goodness, he drank the whole glass of wine at the end

  • nice use of Turrican at the end.

  • God, I love Monster House on the GBA. Epic stuff man.

  • rapidly press 1 its funny

  • uMVC3!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • the angry video game nerd hate the monkey...

  • lol i didnt even know there was a genesis version! i played the shit out of the snes one

  • I used to loooove the aladdin game! :D

  • Aladdin Sega version

  • Sega version is more fun and better than Nintendo.

  • you called magical mirror shitty, f*** you

  • Comment removed

  • Hey, the HVGN should do an episode that compares SNES games to Genesis games, some games the genesis does better than SNES, and i'd like to know which.

I know The Genesis version of Toy Story is better, because it has an extra level the SNES version doesn't, i'd like to know which other games Genesis did better too.

  • Aladdin isn't just underrated on the SNES, and it's not just a great platformer, i'd say its one of the BEST platformers ON the SNES, i know thats saying alot, but yeah, it really is, if you look on some emulator sites, its in the top ten downloaded snes titles.

I like it so much, it was one of the first games i ever beat, i even remember the code i memorized after beating that tough lava wave stage, Genie, Jafar, Aladdin, Abu!

  • the boss he said you don't even have to move at is similar to phantoon from super metroid

  • I LOVED GOOF TROOP!!!!!

  • I loved both Ducktales and Chip 'n' Dale on the NES,but the Capcom/Disney partnership really hit it's stride in the 16-bit era.I was lucky to own both consoles and the Game Gear and Game Boy,both of which had tons of great games made by Capcom from the Disney Library.

  • I suspected he was nuts when he suggested Magical quest was less than amazing. I KNEW his tastes were awful when he said that king kong, and the rocky games were anything more than shit

  • @nikolaast Are you kidding? King Kong was great

  • @dolphen111 King Kong was by far one of the worst games to ever come out on the 360. Rivaled only by X-Blades.

  • Dear HVGN,

As a kid, and even still as an adult, One of my favorite games was Kid Chameleon for the Sega Genesis and I would love to see you review that. It has everything you look for; challenging gameplay, an amazing soundtrack and tons of variety.

Thanks and keep up the good work

  • @TinyClocks I think I need a good explanation on why Kid Chameleon was so "classic" and "amazing", because as a kid and even now as an adult, I just can't get into it. It's just very... Boring to me. I just need someone to tell me why it was so great.

  • @chosentonessournotes

Maybe it's nostalgia. Maybe it's all the cool helmets. Maybe you have bad taste in video games. (I'm just kidding.) Personally, Kid Chameleon was one of those few games that I could sit and play for hours on end and never get tired of, regardless of how many times it chewed me up and spit me out. I can see how it wouldn't be everyone's cup of tea, but I absolutely loved it.

  • @TinyClocks I mean, don't get me wrong, I LIKE the game, but I could never see it as any kind of classic. Maybe I need to spend some more time with it.

  • WHY DID YOU CALL THE MAGICAL MIRROR SHITTY

  • Is Kingdom Hearts any good, The Disney thing kinda turned me off

  • @TheCineMatt Considering the strong fanbase that it has, yes. All of them are good (though I'm on the border about KH:CoM (GBA game)). There's a total of 6 Kingdom Hearts games, not counting the cell phone games.

  • I remember Aladdin for the SNES very well, because it was the first video game I managed to beat! Uh, well... Actually, I just found out the password for the last boss by pure coincidence. But who cares?! ^^°

It is still my favourite SNES Disney title and I prefer it much over the Sega version, which is in no way a better game just because you have a weapon in it. -_^

  • I really REALLY hate the fact that IG is even mentioned in the same sentence as HVGN. The two are completely different. IG hates games because he thinks it's funny, HVGN lets us know which underrated games are awesome and which we should check out.

  • @chosentonessournotes More Accurately AVGN and HVGN most people don't mention IG because he completely copied AVGN and gives no credit to AVGN

  • @chosentonessournotes It also helps that Derek is funny and interesting. xD

  • @WillisFilms1 Absolutely. He doesn't need to feign anger or love for anything. He has genuine and honest reactions to the stuff he does. Love it.

  • @chosentonessournotes I can not stress this enough... if you don't like Irate Gamer, then don't watch his videos! So simple!

  • @Bittergamer1886 Who says I watch IG? I don't.

  • @chosentonessournotes Well then, quit complaining about it. There are countless Chinese proverbs on that, y'know. And rule 19 of the Internet is relevant.

  • @Bittergamer1886 I said that cuz some douche said HVGN was ripping off IG. Get the fuck off my back.

  • @chosentonessournotes But piggy-backing's fun.

  • @chosentonessournotes And that's the very reason I ended up subscribing.

  • OH MY GOD THE MONKEY THINKS ITS PEOPLE!!!!

  • Literally, right when you said "and then, of course, there are the immensely popular Kingdom Hearts games" i immediately said "FUCK YEAH!"

  • Is it me or is hvgn the exact opposite of the irate gamer cause hvgn likes Aladin and zombies ate my neighbours while irate gamer didn't.

  • I still demand Onimusha 5

  • and of course.... I get the greatest response from mega turrican at the end. DAMN THAT FRIGGIN SONG IS SWEET

  • the genesis version of aladdin isnt hard why does everyone say that

  • @animehatchetman Yes it is. It also doesn't follow the plot of the movie. And it was released by the same hacks that released Cybercop.

  • (0.0) 9:35 Please do a review of the Willow game.

  • omg i fell in love with goof troop

  • 8:55 QUACKSHOT! ONE OF MY FAVORITE GENESIS GAMES IN THE WORLD!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Fantasia is an Infogrames game, not Sega. That's the reason why the game sucks balls.

  • Oh my gosh...Maximo!

That was one of my first rated T games when I was younger, and when my dad asked if I was scared I said I wasn't but...

Damn was I scared out of my mind! Haahaha I was young, ok!

  • I knew about the SNES version of Alladin probably from Nintendo Power, if not there then from the complete SNES soundtracks I got from SNESMusicdotorg

  • Love how he just chugs the wine at the end.

  • if you like MVC1and2...just wait till 3.

  • Guily on Kingdom Hearts.

    Yep,i'm a Kingdom Hearts Fanboy.

  • And another disney licensed game thats great is epic mickey. (i'm aware this was made before epic mickey came out.)

  • he really just said dick tracy?...

  • @blank21121 Not that one... the genesis one

  • @AVGNROCKS1996 its better?!?!?!

  • @blank21121 WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY Better

  • I remember Aladdin. I loved that game.

  • Anyone know what the music at the end / during the credits is?

  • I''m the other way around with Aladdin..I didn't know there was a genesis version. I loved the SNES version and continue to play it today. Awesome game. And I've since played the genesis version, and still prefer the SNES version.

  • @txfnero of course you do... all Nintendo fans do.

  • @txfnero Same here. I only knew there was a Genesis version because I remember seeing the ad on the back of an instruction booklet.

I think it was Sonic Spinball.

  • I didnt think that the genesis version of aladdin was hard. Me and my brother got to Jafar when we were like 7 years old. Lion KIng was hard as hell though. Never got past the waterfall stage.

  • I played the SNES version. I got stuck after a while and found a cheat and got to Jafar and beat him fairly easily.

  • Henshin-a-go-go, baby!

  • @BrianRingeisen While that quote doesn't exactly work here, it's still an awesome line from joe.

  • @ultimateanimefighter I can has superpowers? D:

  • @BrianRingeisen Yes you can has super powers. =)

  • I like the HVGN, and the Aladdin game looked pretty darn good. Nintendo should release it on VC. It deserves it.

  • Hah i remember aladdin! The boss fight with the snake I neeed to get this game back

  • HVGN is at his best when he tackles entire series like this. Who else wants a HARVEST MOON RETROSPECTIVE?!

  • How dare you call Disney's magic mirror a shitty game. I played, and loved that game when I was a kid!

  • @themangOMEGA Well if you like it, then great. More power to you. But HVGN has his own opinion...

  • that's anticlimactic...

  • what a stupid irate gamer rip off

  • @applemetatin1 Go Fuck yourself, I've seen my 7 year old cousins make better Videos than The Irate Dicksucker!

  • you forgot splinter cell.

  • Aladdin on Genesis is tons easier than Aladdin on SNES.. >_>

  • @CeeJaay84 Ya right, and Dark Castle and Sword of Sodan are great games. >_>

  • I seriously ROFLed at 00:51 and especially at 1:09!

  • i get giddy when i see a game that i've played before on the snes (which isn't often much, cause i'm a snes kid, not a nes. D:)

  • Who does drink wine like that? But anyway, great reviews, after watching some of them i subscibed ;)

Ps: did you ever heard of "the guardian legend" for the NES? In my eyes the probably most underrated game evvar, yet alone its soundtrack!

  • YOU FORGOT ABOUT SPIDERMAN ON THE PLAYSTATION THAT WAS MY CHILDHOOD man I love caps

  • Are you goign to review EVO? While i do agree it's horrily underrated, the game is very very far from perfect. And that's sugar coating it. It's almost broken.

  • Turrican!!! Now that game is underrated!!!

  • I want that snes vs genesis alladin video.

too bad that whole "driving force of creativity" thing is kinda out dated because of Keji Inafune leaving. Now I'm not saying capcom sucks now but I'm saying that megaman will never be the same and that some of the other series(s) that Keji was working on will probably have lost some of their charm and or awesome(ness) (in the long run).

  • its ironic i had the exact opposite experience with the Aladdin games i didnt know the sega version existed haha

  • Damn, This is awesome!!! XD

  • Hey HVGN, how come you're not a huge fan of Kingdom Hearts? I'm not mad, just curious...

  • @ 8:45 man i really have to listen to the full video before commenting.... sorry

  • @ 1:53 man although you're horsing around, not a bad voice.

oh yeah, Since capcom was under license with Disney when it came to Nintendo- i wish you would try out the work Virgin did for Disney with the Genesis.....well, that's a hope, not really a request though.....

  • Not seen this before Derek. Never seen you neck the whole glass of wine before either. That made me lol pretty fucking hard! :D

  • I'm not a fan of Kingdom Hearts, either, Derek. I was immensely pissed off how so many Final Fantasy characters were fagged up.

  • The genesis version of Alladin has a difficulty setting in the options menu. The easier the difficulty the more lives you have at the start, enemy's take only one hit to kill and you have more apples at the start.

  • I always loved the Magical Quest series. The 1st one is probably the best one, with #3 coming up second. I've been playing games since 1991, and I know that those games are better than what you think.

  • that's not how you drink wine

  • YES! EVO! I loved the crap out of that game, until it just stopped working due to age for me. I hope you review that game because THAT is a real under-rated gem.

  • How dare YouTube feature an Irate Gamer video next to a video with talent and competence!

  • Respond to this video... Around a year ago I bout a Snes and aladin came with it so l kinda laghed when you said not much people knew about it

  • It's safe to say, Capcom were unstoppable in the 90's...

  • love all of these games! but where's Bonkers? it's Disney/Capcom too

  • @karlSNESnerd he can only review what he owns.

  • @SonicOrbit01 just saying, if I was to make a video of a game series, I'd make sure I had all of them first. unless a game was really rare and over priced, then I'd say screw it, but give it a shout out anyway. before you think I'm being nitpicky..... Derek insults me on the podcast, I'm in pain :(

  • You know for a "happy" video game nerd, you swear way too much and it really detracts from your credibility. Still this inspires me onto my collection.

  • Oh god... Aladin. It was actually one of my first games, right with The Lion King, Jurassic Park, soon Loony Tunes game that I don't remember, and even The Wheel of Fortune xD Until we sold them all... Or they got lost in the closet of death. Either way, we're not getting them back anytime soon.

  • Am I the only one that thinks Spider-man 2 for the gamecube is a lost classic?

  • @FamilyGAMEGuy8 Gamecube? Oh thats right, it was a multiplatform game. Its pretty well established to be an awesome licensed game.

  • dick tracy on the genisis i wonderd y avgn didnt review that along side the nes version.

  • I remember not liking Goof troop as a kid but ill have to play it again. Bonkers was a fun game made by capcom on the snes

  • Goof troop is 6 bucks on eBay..

  • What about Donald Duck as Maui Mallard? Awesome side scroller shooter.

  • NOW YOU HAVE DONE IT, YOU FUCKER.

I've had hunted this game 2:08, for years. It's the first game I have ever played in SNES.

    THIS IS BEATIFUL MOMENT. *sniff*

  • I remember playing genesis aladin when i was kid, and never getting even to the 2nd level

  • capcom did make solid disney games, but I prefer Kohnami games. I'm sorry to say it but you rate capcom disney games lightly. Most are good but the few that were are pretty bad with not much for a saving grace on that note.

  • but its awesome they makeing a marvel vs capcom 3 now

  • goof troop and aladin are hard

  • A very fun, insightful and engaging mini-series you made here. I salute you, sir!

Someday I'd like to see you look at the Disney/Sega and Disney/Virgin games in greater detail, as I think they're all worth talking about. These days, outside of really notorious cases like Fantasia, they tend to get overshadowed by the Capcom games so most Internet reviewers don't talk about them. I for one would love to see you talk about them.

  • Goof Troop's Multiplayer kinda reminds me mainly the game New Super Mario Bros. Wii kinda the same as Halo and stuff!

  • Dude...you know that you have to review the pair of Aladdin games as a pair.

  • Who did you play Goof Troop with during the review? Neckbone?

  • now that's how you drink wine :D

  • i remember magical quest when i was about 5 years old, man that game was fun. There was a two player coop mode which me and my buddy always enjoyed.

  • YEEEEEES! Aladdin! Irate fired this game, but actually I loved this game.

I played this game with my younger sisters hours and hours lol

  • FUCK RIDICULOUS HARD XD

  • they need to make a disney/capcom Collection

  • The irate gamer blatently rips off AVGN. I find his voice is quite annoying

  • @greenfactio Well i also hate chris bores but i think game dudes voice is MUCH more annoying.

  • during 5:43 that level sorta resembles the wizard of oz

  • Lion King..Gosh, I love-hate that game. I can't finish almost any of the levels.

These guys seem nice. Maybe I'll pick up a GBA port.

  • Goof Troop was EFFIN HARD!! Loved It

  • I love beetal batle

  • have you seen the Irate "Gamer" review of Aladdn?

it is such a pile of shit, all he bitches about is Abu(which take two minutes of the review and is pointless), the red diamonds, and two levels that are kinda cool.

    and the "acting" is shit

  • at 0:53 i can't disagree more. the genesis version is not too bad in diffuculty until the end. But the Snes version pisses me off so much before I can even get out of the cave! It's impossilbe! And It really doesn't have many tracks from the movie, while the Genesis used many songs from it.

  • @mistertitanic You forgot to mention the Genesis version DIDN'T follow the plot of the movie, and it played Prince Ali on the first stage before he even became a prince. Plus, he never fought Azim in the movie, AND he never used a sword in the movie except for at the end when he fought Jafar. And don't tell me "OH! WHAT ABOUT THE PYRAMID STAGE IN THE SNES VERSION?!" because that was just minor filler. Shinji Mikami said the Pyramid Stage was added to increase the length of the game.

  • @ClassicGameLover It follows all the scenes in the movie. There is nothing wrong with the music playing before the actual scene. At least it's fucking there unlike the Snes version. The sword was added in so you aren't totally defenseless like in the Snes version where you only have apples and jump on people. By far, the Genesis version is better, and follows the movie much better than 99% of movie licensed games.

  • @mistertitanic No it doesn't! Explain to me how it follows the plot of the movie better when I just pointed out how it doesn'! I think you're just a Sega fanboy that can't accept the fact that the SNES won the 16-bit wars and had superior hardware and games. And the SNES version had the music from the movie too (playing in the RIGHT places too I might add, like the instrumental break in One Jump Ahead in level 1). And the bosses made more sense too like the guy Jasmine stole from as 1st boss.

  • @ClassicGameLover Yes, I love Sega. The Genesis is my favorite system. The Snes version follows the movie? Only having TWO songs from the movie? What the fuck are the first 4 levels all about? just running around like a shithead throwing apples at people and jumping on their heads. Second stage, Where the fuck was there a cave that early in the damn movie? The Snes version sucked balls, and I have almost every Snes game. I find the Genesis to be superior in every possible way

  • @mistertitanic SNES=The first boss is the guy Jasmine stole the apple from which makes much more sense.

Genesis=The first boss is Azim, when Al didn't even encounter him in the movie.

Oh yeah, and that cave stage is the Cave Of Wonders, which IS in the movie. Did you even fucking watch it?! And Virgin is a shitty game company. They relased that train wreck of game called Cybercop! And other crap like Mick & Mack and Super Caesar's Palace.
