  • LOL jesus got owned like a little bitch

  • Comment removed

  • I laughed at 1:17 "Good, take this, it's bigger!"

  • But if they were as dark as people insinuate then the bible wouldnt have noted that a black man helped carry the cross a little way for Jesus rather than just stating a man.

  • Well, people were definitely outside a lot more often in those days. However Jesus was Jewish not many Hebrews now a days are that dark skinned. I think a more accurate description would be that he was tanned. He was a handiman, so he wouldve worked outside all the time like most other people back then. They are tanned more than they are dark skinned.

  • The sinners stoning the sinners for being sinners!

  • It's a MIracle!!!! PRAISE HIS NAME!!

  • people hated Jesus back then, he was virgin, a loser, everybody hated his ass

  • ive never seen this movie..but this is my favorite scene!

  • maybe the next movie they should cast me.....since I am the only man who has come as close as man can come to a modern day miracle.

  • R.I.P. Irvin Kershner. Not only the terrific director of THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK, but also an actor who did a terrific (and humorous) job as Zebedee in this movie. He was an inspired casting choice.

  • Now Mama, I said Put down that rock!

  • Now Mama, I said Put down that rock!

  • I would just like to know what makes anyone on here even remotely sure that they know what Jesus looked like?? Regardless of implied ethnicity - there are people of certain ethnicities that look NOTHING like the stereotypical person of that race anyway....

  • These American accents crack me up

  • i hate this version. HATE it. This movie totally misrepresents Jesus and casts him in his humanness in a horrible way! He has no faith in this movie. It makes me want to throw up. My hero is not like this

  • @inthelight7771 How do you know that you aren't misrepresenting Jesus?

  • @inthelight7771 I personally regard Jesus as Lord and Savior. But I don't see this film as either horrible or misrepresentative; I think it was meant to be a speculation. Couldn't Christ have thought about his humanity as well as his diviinity? While I don't believe he acted in any way as this movie portrays, I do imagine that he would have been subjected to the same temptations as any of us. How he dealt with them though, would be a completely different matter.

  • Jesus should have been played by a black? are Israelis "dark"..they are olive complected whites. thats how Jesus would have been.

  • .....Be careful Zebedee...

  • amazing scene!

    such beauty and wisdomm!!!

  • Jesus: "Be careful, Zebedee! There IS a God! He's seen you cheat your workers! He's seen you with that widow, what's her name?"

    Shout: "Judith!"

    Jesus: "Judith!"

    Both very powerful and funny!

  • that was deep

  • the author says in the begining: ITS FICTION!!! ITS A NOVEL!!! You (intolerant) christians want to tell us what to think? In fiction, we can say anything we want about Jesus... and if other religions are too fanatic to accept fiction about their leaders, thats their problem... we live in a free world... if its fiction, u can say anything u want... if its a real affirmation u have to proove it... thats all.

  • Dumb fuck, bible is also a fiction, it was edited by romans and some nasty fucks of early church to hide real story of MAN Jesus who did not perform any miracles. Only this movie made me believe in Jesus's view, while biblical Jesus makes me vomiting

  • "Dumb fuck, nasty fucks, vomiting".

Mr-Asians-Unite, what an intelligent and beautiful speech.

  • is that what jesus looked like?

  • no one knows for sure in this life time but this is what he would of look like a jew having dark hair light skin, an he would have been very atractive since he is perfect and from heaven and was gods first creation!

  • Actually , historically Jesus likely would`ve been muscular with dark skin(The Early Jews were of Arabic Descent afterall) , short hair , rough features & a rough , scruffy beard.

  • i can't find this movie anywhere on the web!!! Someone help me please!!! I really want to watch it but i can't find it!!!!! AAAAAAAAHHHHHHHH!!!!! Geez.

  • go to e-bay

  • @ namontn- i want to watch it for free on the web, not buy it. Besides, my parents won't let me buy stuff from the web.

  • HAHAHAHAHA. Jesus owned the stone throwers

  • the temple speech where he throws the $ lenders out of the temple was once on youtube & one day it had been removed for what they said was a terms of sevice violation. If it has been re-posted I can't find it. It is a shame. That was one of the strongest parts of the film. I can't fiquire out what terms of service it might have violated. There was no swear words & with all the segmants here it must not be copyrighted. I guess some religios right wacko must have complained. It is such a shame.

  • I have been looking all over for that one scene!!!!

    END THE FED!!!!!!!!!

  • "Aren't you afraid that god will paralyze you as you lift that stone?

    That your arm will wither,

    and lose all strength?"

Please post the ressurection of Lazarus. It is one of the movie's most memorable moments.

  • I actually think this is better than the passion, but 1 major problem though.... jesus wasn't white so why do they keep casting white guys in the role of jesus?! In the end it shouldn't matter really, but I just don't know why ppl can't get over the fact Jesus was dark skinned. lol

  • I know. I would love to see an adaptation with a darker skinned (more authentic) Christ as well.

  • Jesus was Green!!!

  • @Princessportent LOL, people always tell me I look like jesus, middle eastern skin, etc.....I have been to Alabama and I know why Jesus has not come for a second time.,,,,,those sobs would discriminate him,

  • @Princessportent Ironically the most racially accurate portrayal of Jesus was in Frankenhole where Jesus was shown to be dark skinned and confused at the white skinned portrayal of Jesus

  • @Princessportent Obviously they were thinking about talent over authenticity. Willem is a god...no pun intended.

    Zebedee's cool too....

  • why does it matter? It's just supposed to be symbolic. Who knows, maybe people were blue.

  • @cdowg187 well, he wasn't black. In fact, there's zero chance that he was black. He probably looked more olive colored, or maybe he was white. It's impossible for us to know because the people in the middle east are nothing like the people who lived then. The Palestinians, Jordanains, Egyptains, Arabians, Iraqis, Syrians, etc. are all Arabs, and Jesus was not. So he may have been white. There's a higher liklihood that he was white than black....

  • @cdowg187 Well Mel Gibson's Jesus was more dark skinned then almost any other film adaptation. Which isn't saying a whole lot, but at least Mel tried to make Jesus look like a Jew. Lol! :)

  • @cdowg187 For a film so incredibly groundbreaking, I feel that Scorsese used a more standard Hollywood vision of Jesus to bridge together classic notions of the appearance of Christ with a modern interruption of Christ's teachings and missions. Hands down the greatest film ever made about Jesus Christ. Plus if Jesus Christ had to choose one filmmaker to make a film about his life he would chose the director of Raging Bull and Goodfellas.

  • @cdowg187 Because Denzel Washington's face isn't as creepy as Willem Defoe's.

  • @cdowg187

At one point Scorsese wanted to cast a darker skinned actor, but felt the film would have more power if Jesus looked like the Jesus of the paintings

  • @cdowg187 I hear ya scripture clearly states the tone of his skin it is that of a pot that has been in a kelm which would be a brownish color not white

  • @cdowg187 How can you be so sure? How many dark people live in Israel today? Or the rest of Northern Africa?

  • @cdowg187 not only that, The Lord's name was Yeshua Bar Yosef, or Rabbi Yeshua Bar Yosef.

  • @cdowg187

He certainly wasn't european. But I dunno about dark skin. The Caucus mountains aren't too far off.

  • @cdowg187 I would think that the "one major problem" would be that Jesus sins in this movie. Arguing over the fact that Jesus was indeed an olive-skinned Middle Eastern/Asian man seems a bit trivial when compared to that unjustifiable error.

  • Isn't Scorsese a Catholic?

  • Because extremists were threatening to blow up the theater. This movie was incredibly controversial when it was released.

  • I had to walk through a metal detector to see this movie in Atlanta, GA.....

  • LOL!!!why????

  • No assumptions are made. You've shown yourself by your choice of words.

  • Man, I dont know anybody would argue about this. I watch this clip alot and this is the real deal. Thats THE teaching right there. What a revolutionary! The hero of all heros, and was and is ours! one of US!! Thats is a human being in the truest sense of the word. Unrelentingly forgiving, compassionate, and understanding, and yet not afraid of confrontation, not afraid to lay down his life for that poor woman, let alone all of humanity. Its such an easy path, but we make it so hard.

  • Ah, I wish it truly were an easy path. But we have been predisposed by billions of years of evolution toward self-preservation through self-interest, even at the expense of others. It is only in the last few million years, with a sense of community developing in our primate ancestors, that the vast, rich potentials of compassion have arisen.

This is the labor before us, to emulate this man who represents the next step in our species' evolution.

  • @brandonterzic If I may presume to say it,

in saying this, you, Brandon, are not far from the Kingdom of God.

    Well done.

  • @SSArcher11 Thats a beautiful thing to say. In flashes maybe....most days conflicted and just yer regular old ego maniac...just like everybody else.:)

  • What is image? I just wonder why God needs images. I know we make images that's why I know civilizations and languages are our illusions. They are not complete for anything, not even for ourselves. Should gods need illusions? What are they for? Why?

  • god doesnt need images, man needs images to understand anything...we are machines that process symbols...

  • man i wanna c this entire movie!

  • I love it! "Be careful Zebedee...there is a God, he's seen you cheat your workers..."

  • The "cast the first stone" incident has nothing to do with the Sermon on the Mount.

Neither is there any scripture which makes any connection between Mary Magdalene and the woman being stoned. This is a confusion of identities and has no basis in fact. Unfortunately it is something many Catholics believe (and I think it is taught in the Roman Catholic Church) but there is simply nothing in the Bible to support it.

  • @jum1801 Not all Catholics believe that, I'm a Catholic. Some Baptist believe that too, we're not the only religion.

  • Gilgamesh149, I am catholic I dont follow Pastors. If you read my text I said "speculate".

  • Let's keep the discussions non-antagonistic people. :) I do not care about the faith of ANYONE...but I WILL delete messages if they a) mock anothers faith b) are abusive towards those who have no faith (or technically, have faith that they have no faith :p) or anything else. If it's nasty, it goes to the recycling bin. Okay? Thanks.

  • This film has done more to raise consciousness about Jesus' struggles - for agnostics and atheists - than arguably any other film. It's only BECAUSE it addresses issues usually skipped/ glossed over that more skeptical peoples enjoy it. It is more a film for the Philosophically minded. Just because it questions the nature of events doesn't mean it's blasphemous! If anything, it's seeking TRUTH. Again, this is MY opinion, just as your views are only OPINIONS. They are also not TRUTH.

  • wrong this film is for those with a base mind who wed their own ideas to indecency. philosophy has nothing to do with this rubbish. i do not know what jesus this was in this film but it surely wasnt the jesus of history or faith thats truth for certain!

  • I do not have a base mind. You cannot just proclaim that someone who asks questions is wrong for asking questions. You have faith - but that's not knowledge. That's not proof. That's faith. It's not irrefutable anything - so your proclaimation that you are right and everyone who doesn't agree with you is wrong is the antithesis to a philosophical perspect. You don't care for truth - you want to belong to a group and mock those that don't agree with EVERY little thing you believe in.

  • do you know what faith is? its trust in GOD and you cant trust something without knowledge of that particular person because no one trusts something they dont understand. as for truth to quote pontius pilot "no one knows what truth is."

  • But your perception of TRUTH may differ. And it's perception...so I can't tell you that your perceptions are wrong. Of course I can't. But you can't tell me that my perceptions are wrong, either. That Philosophy offers the greatest hope for religious tolerance, or tolerance of people of differing beliefs (agnostic, religious or atheist). It's the only real solution to...scorn, and potential violence.

After all, it's not like those who like this film like it to upset you.

    Peace.

  • i am familiar with greek philosophy, truth is not about perception it is about fact and it is not subject to the arbitary whims of the mind which translates reality into whatever that person percieves it to be. 2+2= 4 not 5 or 7 but, 4 and it dosnt matter how i may perceive that to be otherwise the facts are self evident. as for this film it didnt upset me i just think it is wrong to defile the memory of a holy man like jesus by making him say and do things that were unholy.

  • What are you people talking about?!?!?! He didn't really do this!!!! In the movie it was just a vision he had!!! that doesn't make the movie wrong to maybe think that he maybe had a vision of it. It's just thinking. I'm ofcourse talking about when he was getting crucified, not in this scene.

  • listen, this movie is a big fail it was the most base inane irreverant piece of rubbish i have ever seen since that gobsmacking awful movie jesus christ superstar. jesus is a very sacred person and its a shame and a downright pity that people in the west have degraded him with their fancifull theologies from their own mediocre minds. i am not even a christian but, yet i would never make a film like this on the life of jesus.

  • if you're not christian then shut up. You shouldn't even be complainig if you're not christian! All this talk you've been saying is rubish if you're not christian! You make no sense what so ever!

  • listen ive got some shocking news to tell you you dont have to be christian to love jesus.

  • Listen bub, i never said that, and if you truley loved jesus, you wouldn't be making a whole big deal over one movie. One single movie. These people made this to show what they think might have happened and apperently you don't like people critically thinking in christian movies. But you know what? We do like it, so save your time and just leave people who like the movie, alone. It's just a movie!

  • wrong, i have to speak out against any defamation of such an important spiritual leader like jesus and this movie was just that. there were many lurid scenes in this film as well as many down right historicle and scriptual inaccurcies, no critical thinking here but rather psudo philosohical musings.

  • again, IT-IS-JUST-A-MOVIE! There are tons of other movies out there about him that you would like. One-single-movie and you throw a fit about it. I'm sure Jesus doesn't care about what did and didn't happen in the movie. So just think to yourself doctorw2, wwjd. And if you don't know what that means, it means What would Jesus do. And stop using such big and confusing words. I'm only in middle school here.

  • oh, i didnt know you were underage, you shouldnt be watching a movie like this any way. i do not understand why christian people allow movies that degrade their spiritual leader to be made. no producer in hollywood would ever dare to make a movie that degraded buddha, krishna, muhammad, ect; and you know why? because the production would be stoped by the people of those various religions before it would be even released.

  • Dear Lord, Please PLEASE have mercy on this poor soul. He don't understand that IT IS JUST A FREAKING MOVIE!!!! And don't single us christians out just because you don't like something. We do like it, and if you don't then you shouldn't be on here where people do like it. So go away and stop trying to show a point that's not even there because nobody on this page really apperently cares what you say about the movie, because they all like it! Where are you getting that it's degrading him?

  • I am a Christian and I love Jesus Christ Superstar. What's wrong with it?

  • if you have to ask that question then your good taste is about down to nill.

  • No really! Tell me!

  • this is my opinion, the movie jesus christ superstar was obscene because it mixed the drug and carefree lifestyle of the hippie philsophy with the spiritual and moral life of jesus and like oil and water these two life philosophies do not mix. if i could make a movie about jesus i would make it completly in aramaic and arrange the gospels in their proper order the gospel of john should be first then matthew, mark, and luke.

  • I agree with the bit that Jesus wasn't a hippie. But what I love about JCS is that it shows the human side of Jesus. What would it be like to go your whole life knowing that you were going to be crucified?

  • what

  • You may appreciate reading Plato's Theaetetus. It deals with the topics of perception, knowledge, and man being the measure of his own reality.

  • A dope like you thinks Jesus was a blue eyed white guy... you would probably call the real Jesus a terrorist.

  • that comment was bang out of order, it does not matter what skin colour or creed jesus was he is a holy man from GOD and must be respected and honoured.

  • Look the point is your judging this movie as blasphemous when you never saw Jesus in the flesh. You never saw what he looked like, who he loved, how he interacted with people day to day. This movie may not be truthful...but I bet its closer to Jesus than any movie has ever come to it.

Though I'll say the name calling was disrespectful and I apologize.

  • I wouldn't say this movie is based on assumptions, but rather questions.

What might Jesus have thought while on the cross?

Could Jesus have lived a normal life and been content with himself?

Why is sex not part of a divine life?

If Judas was necessary to the sacrifice, isn't he good?

Is sexism ("all women are the same") the work of the devil?

I think the author was trying to find answers to these questions.

  • wrong, the author is trying to turn jesus into something he isnt because he or she didnt like the jesus potrayed in scripture.

  • Oh? You've spoken to Nikos Kazantzakis and he's told you this?

    Wow.

  • You obviously speak in ignorance if you don't even know the author's gender. Ignorant accusations are a poor presentation of yourself and your convictions.

  • ..... Say what?

  • Its been a while since i've seen the movie, I didn't notice the guy he gave the stone to was "Zebedee." I believe that's the father of John and James (Sons of Zebedee") who were his disciples (Matthew 4:21) who happened to be a fisherman... interesting assertion... or interpretation.

  • Its a mystery what Jesus was writting on the floor during this occurance (which was not added in this movie). Some people speculate that he was writting down the names of people who we're in the crowd that slept with her.

  • Nice insight ...

  • Huh? There are no grounds for such speculation but your pastor's fanciful imagination.

I find it a deep mystery that the only words known to have been written by Jesus Christ Himself, were written in the dust.

  • Did anybody recognize the old guy talking at 0:13? It almost blew me away! That's Irwin Kershnar! He directed STAR WARS EPS.V The Empire Strikes Back and was George Lucas' teacher before he became famous. I just wonder how he got to star in that movie... maybe he was Scorsese's teacher, too?

  • i dont like this jesus reflection.. He is put there to me as a harsh God.

  • Harsh? Read about him making a whip and driving out the money changers from the temple.

  • what if evil doesn.t even exist?

what if it.s all in your imagination so you can be ruled by other human beings?

  • So you say the Holocaust wasn't evil?

  • To whom are you directing this comment, DaveOJ?

  • RemyDareAgogo

  • I've always adored this scene, and scenes from any movie which attempt to bring scripture to life. The "problem" I have with it, if it is a problem, is this movie merges Mary Magdalene with the "penitent whore", and there is nothing in scripture to back this up. Truly, in Christian dogma, the whore and Magdalene seemed to merge sometime during the late Middle Ages, to my knowledge, because the cult to Mary Magdalene was too strong for the Catholics to let go. Not many medieval feminists.

  • Yes...there are parts of this film that are not supported by scripture. Not that anything goes against it, outright, but it *is* a fictionalized take on things, no doubt. What I like about Kazantzakis' take...is his making Magdalene a less than "pure" character - and he still shows Jesus as caring for her, loving her and remaining loyal - regardless of her past or her sins. And that was a risky move; well played, because I envision the real Jesus would have been the same. (Bold move, actually.)

  • willem dafoe(playing Jesus) is really driving home a point when it comes to the phrase let he who is without sin cast the first stone.

  • Princessportent, hi. I forgot to ask this;

Um, are the reality scenes in the film true to the bible? I hope they are. I don't care about the alternative ones because they're fiction and all.

    Thank you.

  • Hi Kingking. I would say that some scenes definitely seem...dream-like, even ones that don't take place during Jesus' time on the cross (hallucinations?). The entire film is infused with a sort of surreal quality. As for events that go *against* the Bible...harder to say. Rather, events happen that aren't necessairly described in the Bible...but nothing (save for the end scenes) outright opposese anything in the Bible. I find it a powerful film on its own...the message of compassion is strong.

  • I'm a Christian and I really want to see this film. I hope it's available in the rental shop.

  • I was able to watch it at the Salvation Army(William Catherine Booth) library where I sometimes hang out. :) It's shown in many liberal SA theology classes so they had it on hand which was cool. I also found it at a very large video rental store sometime later - one that carried many foreign and/or criterion edition films. But I'm sure Blockbuster etc. would carry it too...

  • Actually, for a long time Blockbuster has been infamous for NOT carrying this film (not sure if this is still true though...)

  • william defoe is one of the greatest living actors and he acts beautifully in this masterpiece.

  • I agree :)

  • guess they don't have satr in christainity.

  • Hmmm? Satire??

  • satr, is an arabic word 4 not exposing the sins of others, u know a friend has done something bad, but to stop his shame, u don't expose him, as long as he isnt harming someone else, and the only way u can stop him/her is by exposure, islamic concept.

    mohammed said,

man laa yasatar a'la akhihi allah laa yastar a'laihi

"him who doesnt over look others sins, god will not over look his sin on the day of judgement"

you asked,i just found it funny ur jesus doing a sin, which we consider, like that.

  • jesus did point out people sins, but no by stoning which the law and pharisees did. he told people theyre sins were forgiven. in christian belief, Jesus is God, so he is sinless and is the true exposer of mans faults.

  • no, i understand that u don't have that sin, satr, in christianity. but we have it in islam to save the ones who have sinned, even if he is 4given, from embarrassment.

  • Jesus said to first fix your own sins before pointing out others'. but paul said that if another Christian sins, that you must correct them before it becomes habitual. so i see what you are talking about.

  • I think Jesus wanted people to first work on their own problems before trying to 'help' another. But I don't think he was implying that we should ignore something large, something *wrong* when you could stop it from occuring. Just...to not be so critical of others, especially...hypocritical, I think. That nitpicky, fault-finding tendency wasn't what he wanted...but I'm sure he would have wanted people to expose...say, abusive practices or to try and stop truly evil events!

  • advicing someone privately, is considered good in islam, but public denouncement is bad, also in islam theology only god guides, and only god can lead someone astray, thats part of his divinity, even to imply another has that ability can take a muslim out the fold of islam.

  • But in Christianity...Jesus IS seen as God. The human manifestation of God. When they speak of the son of God, it seems confusing...but Jesus is supposed to be God on earth, the physical manifestation of the Godhead. What gets me...is how compassionate Jesus seems when compared to the God of the old testament. But anyway, why would god lead someone astray, imadhurata??? That seems like an evil thing to do. Jesus isn't trying to lead anyone astray. He's trying to show them their hypocrisy...

  • 1.true that in christain theology jesus is god, but he was also a guide n human.

to understand understand god in islamic theology you have to depart total from christain theology and their understanding of god, also what, in context of this deity, is evil n what is good, not to forget predestination. so our deity, is a deity we believe nothing happens, not even the smallest thing happen without his permission, all things, including event, even the most smallest, are depend upon him.

  • 2. he knows all n has preknowledge of everything, so in the context of this monothestic god, which nothing happens without his permission or approval, if pple choose, to go astray it's bc god allowed, gave his ok and was dependent on his approval.

but setting that aside, the islamic prespective of christain theology, is that u deify, jesus, mary, the holy ghost, mary, ur saints, the church, but also satan, somehow satan has emmense powers, for us he has little n that is in the control of god.

  • Interesting point of view, but I think this comment demonstrates a poor understanding of Christian theology, and as you yourself said, "before talking about a topic, it's best to know it." Christianity definitely does not "deify" Satan, the church, the saints, or Mary; and Jesus and the Holy Ghost are just two aspects of the One God -- in Islam you have 99.

  • (This reply was directed to a comment by imadhurata)

  • this film or this video here iz not 100% correct but.. wouldn't you agree

  • why do people say God in the Old Testament is evil? God shows anger toward sin in the new testament. but you must understand the different perspective, though. the old testament was written by prophets, men who claimed to know God more than anyone. also, the old testament covers history and not present time, according to them. i dont see any big differences.

  • If public denouncement is bad in Islam, imadhurata, what about all of these public punishments according to "Sharia" law -- including, in some interpretations, stoning (and BTW, how many of these public stonings have been of men, as opposed to women)? I pray that all good Muslims point out what you did about satr and speak out against such interpretations of Sharia.

  • sharia law is applied on cases which effect the society at large, satr is in the cases of individuals and the own sins.

besides tom i really don't think you know much about islam, before talking about a topic, it's best to know it.

  • Let me ask you something? I take it your a muslim? You say all "good muslims". Are you good muslim? How many of the commandments have you broken? Have you ever told a lie, stole anything, had lustful thoughts in your heart? Oh no, you can't enter His kingdom heaven is pure and spotless. Your like the rest of us. Without a savior you will persih. That's like a man who breaks the law and rejects an attorney who is their to defend him. Who would pass that up, only a fool would.

  • Exaime yourself under that Law of Moses.

  • But he is saving a life...so would his exposing Jebedee's affair REALLY be a sin...if the alternative was death for someone else?

I see life as, often, a 'choice' between two events - little evil and big evil. Sometimes not acting at all represents the bigger evil. But in those situations, those catch-22's...are you sinning so long as you are doing your best?? Sometimes no matter what you do, harm will result. I think all we can do in this life is try to minimize that harm.

  • Hey why not post the entire film? This is a great movie. Too bad it got rejected by the mainstream crowds. I bet if the sex scene was left out this would be considered one of the top "Christian" films of all time.

  • The torrent I downloaded didn't download properly or fully. When I downloaded a new torrent, it wouldn't upload to movie maker. So right now, all I have is about 70% of the film, with glitches. :/ I figure that would be more infuriating (to post) only to have it come to an abrupt end.

  • I agree. And the sex scene wasn't even showing the reality of Christ's life, but an alternate reality of one who cared for humans, and would potentially want a family. One thing I always think about, with regards to Christ AND the Godhead is...loneliness. It is a fundamental experience for almost all at one point or another. Some people are asexual, some people make the definite choice to live simply, to break free from materialism and so on...but utter isolation is spiritually deadening...

  • What's her name? "Judith!" LOL

  • I know! That made me laugh too. :)

  • this movie is "blasphemy".

  • Plus you gotta love Jesus' New York accent...

  • Most accurate Christiam film made..Shows Jesus how he really was in the Bible..not the Hollywood Jesus many SO-CALLED Christians love. - Sorry Mel...

  • sorry to tell you this man, but this is not

accurate at all. In the bible jesus does not save mary from being stoned to death. He saves a diffrent women. I understand that all gospels are a bit diffrent but only the book of mark has the story of 'He who has not sinned can cast the first stone' the bible makes jesus to be god like. the novel the last temptation of christ makes him out to be more like a man. I'd like to add, merry chrismas!

  • I agree with both of you guys (babynighter) and Lifeasagarden. Though not every aspect of the film may be identical to the events that occured in the Bible, I think the sentiment...the emotion behind them...is bang on. I like this portrayl so much because he does show emotion, does get angry appropriately etc.

  • Princessportent have you ever read the last

tempation of christ? Well, if you havn't, you should check it out it's pretty good. What I was saying to lifesagarden is that it does not show how jesus was like in the bible, but what he was like in the novel.

  • I have read the book. =) I'm a huge Nikos Kazantzakis fan. I've read all of his stuff :) Great writer, amazing person.

  • Christ was a man.. and the Bible indicates He experienced pain, suffering and anger (and I am sure lust, too) as we all do. I believe this film shows a more realistic account of this, instead of the perfect "G-Q magazine" Christ Hollywood likes to dish out.

  • Totally. :) You can connect more with this Christ, this portrayl. I don't mind the fact that certain aspects - such as the speech - were 'modernized' either, because I'm ultimately watching for the story, the emotion behind the actions. Plus, none of the other Jesus-based films go that route, so the change is appreciated and refreshing imho. :)

  • I love his emotional range. Willem Dafoe was perfect for this role. At first, it was a little hard for me to 'see' him as Christ...but on the second viewing, I really started to think his version is my ultimate, ultimate fave portrayl. No question.

  • When I first saw this film I thought it was a joke. Now I believe this has to be one of the best "Jesus" films made. The fear, pain and anger is there as described in the Bible, but the mainstream focus will always be on the "perfect" Hollywood Jesus..

  • I agree. I found it hard to get into the first time (not the story entirely, but just...as seeing Jesus AS Jesus, because I was so used to him being portrayed differently)...but it really lingered with me. So when I watched it again later, that's when it really started to move me. That's when it became my favorite film :)

  • Yes :) One of my favorite scenes. I LOVE Willem Dafoe's acting here....Jesus's expression right after he says

"be careful, Zebedee"...it's wise, and compassionate, but hurting...haunting, as he is frustrated with human selfishness and cruelty. A very intense look for what would have been a wave of emotions...many emotions!

  • Muhtesem bir Film.

  • You're very welcome. And I agree, re: the masterpiece bit. Beautiful movie! :)

  • "The Last Temptation of Christ" is a masterpiece. Thanks for uploading these clips.
