Exactly. You have to shoot, edit and upload in full 1920x1080 resolution in order to have your YouTube version be HD.

Thanks! If you upload a 1920x1080 HD file to begin with, then the HD option automatically becomes available along with a regular quality widescreen version. Hope this is helpful....

To do that I assume you would need a camera that can rec in 1920x1080 HD.
