What do we do if we want our GPS to work? I use google maps with my GPS ALL THE TIME.....And if this update will disable it, unfortunatley I will have to wait for ATT to quit slacking. Please let me know if anyone has found a way to upgrade to 4.5 without losing functionality. Thanks!

go to computer>C:>program files>common files>research in motion>app loader. scroll down and delete the file named vendor and once that is down you can install any companies os as long as it is made for your device ie: for the 8300/8310/8320/8330 MAKE SURE IT IS THE RIGHT ONE!!!

thats not true for the newest version 4.7. even after deleting the vendor.xml file, it will still look for a software on the internet for the new software from ATT, so u must disable internet connection, before you proceed to upgrade to the newest version not supported by ATT.

I have Desktop Manager 4.7 and i downloaded the Orange UK 4.5 once i install it and go to desktop manager it doesn't show up in the list of applications to install..anyone know the reason or fix for this?

this method that they guy described in the video works only with version 4.6. However, you do not have to uninstall 4.7. Just make sure you have deleted the vendor.xml file and disconnect from the Internet before you open the desktop manager

well, guys, I did the same things this genius told us to do, but I went straight to the upgrade for my mobile carrier: telefonica Venezuela, I googled it and found it and followed the same steps. It's worked great so far, maybe you should try googling an upgrade for your own carrier to see if there's any available XD

this is only for the 8310 and since it's not for 8320 (which has WIFI), it's not compatible with the 8320.

the pic is automatic when your phone is connected with USB. the password is the passwor dyou have set for you phone. if you dont have any just enter.

THINGS TO NOTE:

1) My Caller ID does not work after the upgrade. As you can see in the video, I used the Vodafone Ireland version of 4.5... I guess the caller ID doesn't work because phone numbers are set up differently in Ireland?

2) Some people have stated that the GPS features don't work after the upgrade. (I don't have GPS, but it makes sense that a "country-specific" version of 4.5 would be incompatible)

This does not work, i've tried 4 times and it doesn´t update my phone's software. Deleted the vendor file and followed the instructions on the video, and I tried with two different downloads, Roumania and Ireland.

I don't know. If you are unsure and you are concerned, then I recommend not performing the upgrade. AT&T will probably come out with an official upgrade at some point and you may want to wait.

Does this 4.5 update include full HTML viewable emails?

HTML emails look better than they did before the upgrade... but the HTML layout engine is not what I would consider "full browser" view. Web browsing is a full HTML render after the upgrade, but the emails are still a little jumbled up, etc. My guess is that email doesn't apply the CSS file to the render.

I make no promises... but if it does work for the 8320, my guess is that the process would be exactly the same. No guarentee that you'll have the same outcome!... some poeple have noted that certain features don't work after the upgrade. Specfically GPS. I've also noticed that my caller ID doesn't get applied like it used to.

There may be... but I haven't tried. Does anyone know if there is some kind of "factory reset" that can be applied? Maybe that would restore you back to 4.2?

Did you run (open, double-click, etc.) the downloaded file ending in "_Vodafone_Ireland.exe"? You have to actually run that .exe from Windows Explorer before you go back into Desktop Manager. It's basically a two step process... you install the Vodafone version of 4.5 into the Desktop Manager, then the Desktop Manager is able to install 4.5 to your handheld.

i updated my curve 8310 with the os 4.5 like you instructed. it works fine , but the gps stops working because telenav doesnot support 4.5 yet. please let people know this next time!!!
