Wow, 3 speed automatic... back in the day, that's all we had... lol... now they're up to 8 gears... lol... I had a base '78 w/305, 2bbl. 145hp, slow as molasses, but nice on the highway with those 2.41 gears... lol...
@surf403 I believe that dash was on there when they had purchased it from the previous owners prior to the restore...And since it was still in good shape, the just re-used it.... no need to spend extra money for a new/original dash when that one works just fine. But c'mon it really doesn't look THAT bad lol. I personally love it and if anything it sets it apart from other T/A's. Can't blame em' for wanting it to look unique.
@tbirdsport302 No,, it doesnt look bad, I just like the look of the engine tuned one on my 76 T/A. I also agree with you 100% pal on saving money and making our horsepower dollar go as far as it can!! Im presently restoring a 1969 GTO, as well as a new paint job on my T/A. Im learning how to do paint and body from books and dvd's as it is sooo freaking expensive!!
I have a 1978 with a Buick 455 stage 1 punched .40 over with the biggest cam i could put in it. also has compression pistons, its been honed new ignition...the works also replaced the th350 with a 700r4 tranny. Ill put up a video when its completely finished, with 0-60 and 0-100 acceleration. lol
When I purchased my 78 new here in California most of them on the lot were automatics. That year model was selling fast and driving an automatic was not a deal killer for me. I purchased the (blue exterior) car on the spot and enjoyed driving around San Jose with it until 1992.
Nice selection of Aerosmith to compliment the video. Thanks for posting the video. Enjoy and be safe.
@supersix54 thanks, i really liked the blue exterior trans am's a lot, along with the white as well, i would say that those are harder to find now than a Bandit replica for sure.
@orangepop1234 ohh come on now automatics aren't THAT bad :P ......the automatic in this car actually performs very well, shifts very quick and strong.
@tbirdsport302 yeah i bet the automatic tranny is amazing these cars for their time were top of the line, just the 4 speed manual lets you change the amount of torque your putting down. non the less an amazing car! (:
SWEET RIDE, i have an opportunity to get a 77' for first car. How much mpg you running with normal driving? I would love to have it, but i may be restrained if it sucks up all my gas money. (it will have a 400 ci engine)
@Jacoby135 hey! sorry for the delayed response, but i think this one gets around 13-15 city and like 19 hwy or something close to that, plus those miles were driven pretty spirited......im sure it could do better....plus this has a more performance oriented intake manifold, carb, and cam which probably doesn't help the mileage, i hope you bought it!! they are definitely sweet cars for sure
