Very nice brush work! I wish more drummers today would realize that one can play softly, with subtlety, finesse, and taste...and still lay down a nice groove that complements the other musicians.
fine demonstration, but left me wanting "more" instruction: instruction on R/L hand grip/positioning/strokes; how to achieve a certain sound or mood; playing of various beats to music (fast & slow); interplay of bass drum and hi hat (when & how).
So, yeah, more of everything wudda been nice. Congrats on what was done tho.
im just getting into brushes due to a change in circumstance meaning i cant set up a bog standard 4 peice drum kit, now all i have is snare, kick, hihat and ride and im really loving it. havnt been into jazz for that long but this kind of stuff is really inspiring ^_^
playing loud is only a small range of all the possible sounds you can get out of a drum kit. Adding dynamics to your sounds will definitely boost your skills to new heights, and make playing more relaxing too.
I studied with charlie when i was sixteen in new york on 46th street. my dad who was a commercial artist in new york got me lessons. It was an eye opening 2 years back in '78- '79 it made a great impression on my playing. It,s great to see him after so many years even if it is on video.
I've got to get that DVD. That was impressive... I think this is on of the greatest features of drums, there are as many styles as drummers, there are not two drummers who play the same, it's impossible, specifically when it comes brushes technique.
sweet jazz dude. im not really in to jazz but ill still like to learn it bcuz it starts to get boring to play all the time rock and your jazz my man sounded great

Very relaxing to hear this. But I will always be one to make loud sounds with the drums, I'd never have the patience to play like this--it'd kill me.
