  • The first Clarinet part is EVERYWHERE in this song.. its quite ridiculous

  • Awww Wheres the whole song??? :(

  • wow awesome

  • I love this piece . Our high school band is playing it (:

  • Ahh, Mr. Hilton, what a wonderful teacher! It was so awesome to see that you posted this! He had us play it at Roseville!

  • to all of those who say that you could play this in a middle school band, this not even half the piece. The other 2/3 is much harder. to those of you who are playing, good for you.

  • @yerbinator5595 my band, *Dartmouth High School*, is playing the whollleee thing. God help us XD

  • how did u get the sheet music 4 this?

  • We're playing this at our Christmas Concert this year AND WE ARE A MIDDLE SCHOOL BAND :)

  • @BreakingKY Dude your band must be freakin epic!

  • @BreakingKY Nobody cares..

  • We*

  • Well my middle school band could've played this had me ever heard of it.

  • bones sound flat in their first entrance.

  • we played this piece every year in high school the tuba solo is sweetness

  • This is really great, but the conductor is so boring.

  • We played this for our Christmas concert this past year!

  • This is not an easy piece. My High school marching band played this in 1983 as the closing number to our field show. We were 185 strong and got standing ovation for this number after every show.

  • Sounds awesome, we played this this year, I looooveeee it. Horns need to watch for intonation on the last half of the piece though. But I think you guys did great ^^

  • yeah..sorry but there's no way that a middle school band could play this at a decent level. even if the notes and rhythms were right, music is more than that..it takes more time to learn the correct interpretation and musicality of the piece. that comes with age and experience and maturity. this is not a middle school piece......

  • my school does this piece also... we have our band and chorus sing it together... it is soo amazing!

  • I feel that something was lost in the trumpets because the bells were right in the stands. It sounded a tad muffled to me. I really would have liked to get the full trumpet effect throughout this piece. Additionally, euphonium/baritone/trombone part should work on entrances.

  • Yeah, we definitely need better entrances . I played 1st trombone in this video... looking back i see what we did wrnpng

  • i played this last year in 7th grade and we had the full version of it we were close to this good

  • @Perkinatorjunior why was this rated down? It's not unfeasible. I played this piece when I was in 7th grade as well, and again in maybe 10th? It's a beautiful piece of music, difficult, but not beyond the ability of a GOOD middle school to hack through. We did just fine on it.... note that that's me as a college music perf. student saying that.

  • is this Lawrence Central?

  • L'Anse Creuse

  • I'm hoping that those middle school bands are getting some really dumbed down version of this and not the grade 6 that I got today.

Because then I think I'll just go in a corner and cry.

  • agreed....like perkinatorjunior.....doubtful

  • not awful, but the french horn cracked a ton. and the last hit should be legato, less tongue more air. it sounds like they are accenting it almost which is completely the opposite of what's implied at that point.

  • this is a great portrait of the melancholy tone of Russia at the time of the pieces writing. the minor chords and majestic and commanding tones are simply beautiful and terrifying!

    Translation: I love it!

  • My middle school band playd it this year

    it wuz pretty great

  • i personally find it insulting that a middle school band attempted this song. some college bands can't even play this piece the way it's meant to be.

  • we play this on christmas as well it was really fun~

i was playing the baritone sax XD

but im kinda planning to play alto sax next year or tuba

  • our band played this at our christmas concert it was awesome

  • my middle school band is going to play in it in june

  • same here

  • This is one of my favorite orchestral songs.

    Played great!

  • LCHS as in Las Cruces HIgh School?

  • no lanse creuse

  • Other than a few technique issues, great performance.

We've played this twice, and I've had the lovely experience on French horn and Flute.

Its a somewhat challenging piece, so great job.

  • Where's the gong? It has a super important gong part... and I don't think it can be replaced by susp. cymbal.

But, other than that, you guys sound really good!

  • Trumpets need to not play into their stands.

  • am i the only one that thinks this piece sucks for wind players

my jaw is exhausted by the end

and i can't make my clarinet sound any notes cause my jaw won't support it anymore

    plus the ending is boring

  • we play it every other year. not an easy piece but still not as hard as some other things we play in spring

  • Teach the bass clarinet how to drop their jaw.

It's a horrible instrument by design however it can be amazing when played correctly. Oh, and that clarinet who is horribly out of tune.

  • does anyone know a place to get this song from so i can get it onto my ipod i.e. website, limewire search, itunes search etc.

  • When my band played this, I almost passed out at 1:57 (2nd Trumpet). My uniform collar was too tight lol.

  • i love the timpani part for this lol

  • im playing first sax for this song, this is great!!

  • My high school won nationals last year with this as our closer.

  • Im playing crash cymbals for this song, its awesome, one of my favorite pieces

  • i played first trumpet on this when i was in high school... man this brings back memories...

  • where is the first half?

  • lolz nice, u guys pawned this so easy ^_^ too bad my school sux ... and we are doing same thing >.> specially the dam food here lol so low , the food is so horrible

  • 166 to the end

  • trombone parts are really cool. I play the second part for most of it, and I play 4th part for the solo towards the end of the song. Then I switch back to 2nd. I also play the soli at the beginning of the song.

  • 216 to the end I believe.

  • im playing this in junior high...it's supposed to be really hard

  • CRHS pwns this.

  • i love this song we're playing it right now in high school for our christmas concert and i play the tuba and we also play the whole thing

  • 2nd trumpet is more fun than 1st in my opinion.

  • It's probably so much fun because there's no pressure to play ultrasonic notes. I didn't look very closely at the first part, but if you play the song well by the end your chops are blown, even on second.

You're right, though; the second part to this song was nice. :)

  • Beautiful!!!!!! Thanks for sharing.. LCHS is that In Ky?

  • Michigan, actually. Specifically, Harrison Township.

  • Ahh!!!! we have a LCHS here in Lexington (Lexington Catholic High School)...

Beautifully done they sound great... Good Job Kids.. Just puts one in the Christmas spirit!

  • I remember playing this when I was in HS band in the early 80's. Beautiful piece. We played it in our field show one year and in concert band the following year.

  • omg the piccolo part is fun! i only have 2 play 40 measures!!!

  • This is hard as crap to play for me.

    Sophmore in High School.

  • I played this in high school for our Christmas concerto. What is the name of this song? I've been trying to find it for a long time.

  • it's called Russian Christmas Music.

  • Hard to hear the baritone. Bad trumpet intonation.. and clarinets. Its called a tuner. Oh, and don't even get me started on missing rests.

  • I agree and one part I thought I heard French Horns fishing for notes.

  • hm...166 to the end...I'm also playing 2nd Trumpet We're playing this piece at our winter concert here @ Elgin High School. I Absolutely LOVE this piece.

  • everyone's scared.....

tuba players rock!!! i play piccolo, so it's a nice change of sound....

high school bands don't even want 2 touch this, but we're gonna play it...

it'll probably define this year, right pablofanquesfair? my bff? ttyl, see u 2morrow@ pismo!

  • WOW! great blend. amazing. I play tuba (1st chair beast!!!) We are playing this song, so because our band doesn't have a bass, I have to fill in the pizzicatto bass part as well as hold a pedal tone D at FF for like the entire end of the piece!!! You guys are amazing!!

  • my teachers having us play it and we r only in middle school!!!! im kinda scared but it seems fun!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • me too, but anyhow, we'll do fine...

we can barely play millenium, what does he think we can do??!!!??

    we're only middle schoolerss.....

its a fun piece, though..... wish my band luck @ the pismo beach band reivew!!!! hopefully, we'll kick butt!

  • Yeah, I wish we played the whole thing, too. We rocked this out.

  • nice, I played this with my band when I was in high school back in 1999, my senior year. We had two sets of tubular bells and I was on one of them, my friend on the other. We played this at the colorado springs, co CMEA conference. I was at Loveland High School and graduated in the 99-00 class. Nice performance!!

  • the drum corps im with is playing this piece...its awesome

  • holy crap, my part was missing...there was no gong part? the gong and the crash cymbals are the impact at the ending. they are what make the audience stand to clap. oh well, nice fill with the timpani roll. it was an ample replacement

  • Wow... haven't heard this in years. We performed this when I was in High School (Cass Technical High School - Detroit, MI). Awesome Piece indeed. I still remember darn near every note (Trombone).

  • yesssssssss. this takes me back. I was in band in high school,(wiscasset, maine) and this was like the defining piece for our year. sounds good.

  • were playin it in our wind ensemble at lake shore

  • um yea sorry dude but its 166 to the end

  • gave me goosebumps at the end

  • weak.

    jaykay.

Too bad you guys didn't play the whole thing.

That whole section isn't nearly as satisfying without the freaking 15 minutes before it.

  • the horns messed up on their first entrance, but they played it decently loud, I'm totally biased towards them though, and still think they should play louder cause this song has a kick ass horn part

  • actually,I spoke too soon, the horns messed up quite a bit at the end, it sounds like, and they need to play loud for all the triple forte parts, not just the first

  • i forgot to mention this too, your band has a lot of hot girls in it, damn, its like the anti- sausagefest, i guess a tacofest heh heh

  • Wonderful! We are doing this at my Middle School and I find this piece to be very challenging but I enjoy it so much!

I hope we sound somewhat how you guys do.

  • yea this song is really crazy..we did this in marching band.

  • Nicely done!

  • Bells = me.

  • This really rocked.
