@Aphoresis Passing amendments to state constitutions that ban the right for people to get married is very much trying to get the government to "DO" something.
@Justwosweet DOMA laws are actually a redundancy, they are a restatement of the laws as they already exist. They are a RESPONSE to an initiative, not an initiative itself. They represent inertia by definition. it's a bit like arguing that the individual states fighting to pass amendments to exempt themselves from the new Healthcare Bill are "trying to get government to do something". No discussion or effort on this matter began with Conservatives.
@xxxFaustusxxx Martin Luther king was a Conservative, in those day's blacks were not accepted. As a Gay Republican I believe in small government, the right to bare arms, I am also pro life. just because you are born gay doesn't automatically make u a pot smoking lazy hippie.
Why are you a member of a party that supports denying you equal rights, and believes you're an abomination as according to the bible?
Also, it was the conservative religious movement that was denying African American's equal rights. It was the progressives and liberals who fought against them.
@xxxFaustusxxx 50 years ago, most of America would consist of "religious conservatives" according to the way that term is used today.. It was the Democratic party that denied equal rights to Blacks and the Democrats were the leftist party of the U.S. They stood for the rights of the working class, but back then, this meant the WHITE working class ONLY. It was not until the civil rights movement (pretty late in U.S. history) that non-racists could get a strong footing in that party.
I agree with most of what you said, but I'm not a democrat so I've no interest in defending them.
I'd like you to answer my question though: why are you a member of a party that supports denying you equal rights, and believes you're an abomination as according to the bible?
You assume i accept the foundational premise of your question that REPUBLICANS believe that gays are "an abomination according to the Bible".
You are referring to one wing of the party. Not to Neo-Conservatives, not to Moderate Republicans, not to old guard Libertarians (along with the newer ones making all the noise).
By the way, did you ever consider the fact that the only reason Dems don't admit to hating many TRADITIONAL Black pastors in their ranks is because their Black?
Well i can't make a determination about statistics (most people) but the particular groups within the Republican party that I named are full of people who oppose it on the basis of secular considerations, including simple tradition.
Generally those who oppose homosexuality due to secular reasons, are actually Christians, who just know religious arguments don't convince most people, so they are forced to come up with flawed other reasons.
@xxxFaustusxxx What does it mean to "oppose homosexuality" for secular reasons? I have never heard of anyone like that. Now there are those that oppose same sex marriage for secular reasons.
I don't believe that just because your born gay it makes you a pot smoking Hippie or an unreasonable person....ofcourse i also don't believe your born gay
That was interesting. The main thing I noticed was that young Republicans don't care much for culture war posturing. They'd prefer compromise and moderation. That fits the polling data I've seen.
keep your conservative government out of my bedroom and out of my marriage.

@Justwosweet
I don't think Conservatives are the one who want the government to do anything on marriage.
Aphoresis 1 year ago
@Aphoresis they are wanting to deny it to people they think are different. At least I thought it was the conservatives.

@Justwosweet
They don't want anything but for the laws to stay unchanged, their not trying to get government to DO anything.

"I am conservative (a hating bigot) regarding family values."
"You can love the sinner hate the sin" (They are going to hell)
Bunch of wackjobs but that last one was the worst by far.

Why would a homosexual be a social conservative, when that same movement is actively trying to (and are), deny them equal rights?
xxxFaustusxxx 1 year ago
@xxxFaustusxxx because they are fucking retards. america is full of 'em.

@xxxFaustusxxx they might be fiscal conservatives or libertarians.

@Aphoresis
Most even moderate republicans do not support same-sex marriage.
xxxFaustusxxx 11 months ago
@xxxFaustusxxx
That isn't the same as saying that homosexuality is "an abomination according to the Bible".
For example, consider the writings of Tammy Bruce and Michael Bronski
Aphoresis 11 months ago
@Aphoresis
Most people who don't support same sex marriage derive their position from the bible, which says homosexuality is an abomination.
