Very good. Just some body work control, but we all need that don't we =).
I also suggest learning how to juggle. It helps get the idea of throwing the mace the way you want it to go. (Our baton twirlier told me this, and I would trust anything she has to say in regards to twirling....she is some sort of world champion...lol....she pwns me)
you are so talneted...my son is a beginning high school grum major, are there any resources where he learn some basics? I hope someday to see him at your level. thanks, Gina
One good place that teaches Drum Majors is USA (United Spirit Association). They hold week long drum major camps in the summer. I highly recommend them.
wow, impressive, im a drum major in the ATC and I thought i was good, but you have proved to me that I can progress alot further then the level im at at the moment! Congrats, and keep up the good work!
Well if you wear a uniform like I wear in the video, it's not a full-dress uniform so no you don't have to wear gauntlets. If you wear a full-dress uniform patterned after an actual regimental uniform and the uniform DOES have gauntlets, then it would be best to have gauntlets.
Hello there!! I have to say that is very good. I have to ask though if you could give me any advise on the throws and spins you do and how you started to practise. I am currently a Drum Major in teh Air Training Corps and have been for 2 years, but how can i learn and start off the thrwos and spins you do. There amazing. Keep it up, your very good.!!
That was incredible to someone like me. Does anyone know where I can find a website with help on moves like these? Or can one of you post a short video with some spins? (beond basics but not too hard?) thanks...
Plus with the 6/8 bagpipe march it's kinda hard to get back exaclty on 13 because all big moves have to happen on the left-foot. Some judges are lenient and allow the mace to come back on 14 or 15, and then there are the ones who are completely traditional and demand 13.
Hey Artemus. I think you could do a lot more. Probably add some extra height and revolutions to those tosses, and experiment more with other planes. Add some more variety, and don't forget to try and get back to position for the mace roll by count 13 if you can. Also, with the arm swing, make sure the fist goes all the way up to your shoulder with your elbow straight, thumb pointed down with your wrist going as far down as possible, and your arm swinging fairly far back.
It's still a work in progress. I Haven't picked up my mace since the Sac games and my next comp isn't until September. While making the vid I wasn't really concentrating on marching and deportment, I was more concerned with getting my tosses under control

I wish You'd make some kind of slow motion tutorial... There's some useful stuff in there although some isn't, I could really use the spinning.

Yea USA DM camp has good leadership advice, but their spinning classes arn't so good....well at least where i went
zbobsky 4 years ago
hahaha from a pipers point of view that would be horrifying... ud probably take out about 10 in a massed band thing
lonepiper47 4 years ago
Lol. I usually don't spin during massed bands. If I do, I'm usually at least 20 steps in front of the first rank.

haha good

And that mace is hella expensive and I have a panic attack everytime it touches the ground. I still don't have that psychological barrier down yet.
ArtyMac 4 years ago
Kinda messed up in the middle a bit. Ugh I need to work on my tosses (needs more height and control)
