@SouthWestShuffler In reply to your idiot comment regarding the great Buddy Rich, if you were any type of music person, of which I can tell, you are not, you would know, that there are 26 Basic Rudiments to drumming, a Rudiment is a stickintg proceedure of note or notes/beats. Buddy mastered all to an incredibe speed that NO ONE can duplicate, even me, and I'm the best right now. kahjazz
Usually the drummer is the guy in the back, keepin the beat going, but for the most part... He/she is not the main attraction. When Buddy is playin-- he's "front & center". Very cool. He is the MAN.
Your all stupid for rising to the arguement that Travis is Better. Just let people judge for themselves. Technicality isnt everything but if it was buddy would be king well it has been said he only has 1 foot. Still awesome drum solo. The crowd always seem to react at the same point in all his solos.
@WainingGate Buddy kept excellent time with his left foot and he kept his hats always pumping. The idea of playing the hats with the foot is more for the drummer to keep time for themselves and less for it to be heard by the audience. A reference point, per se.
Buddy Rich always seem to have another gear he could go to. What he could do on a 4-piece kit (the extra floor tom held his towel) is amazing. Unfortunately, he's no longer around to see what he could do along side Roster Jr., Weckl, Gadd, Colaiuta and the other elite drummers of today.
Actual musicians pro drummers believe Buddy was the best ever. Stupid kids think Travis Barker is the best ever. Nobody will be talking about Barker 25 years after his death....I promise.
Exactly! How the hell you can even say that Barker is the best.... geez. Think about Bonham, Cozzy Powel, Dave Weckl,Steve Gadd, Vinnie Colaiuta, Chad Smith? How someone can be such an ignorant dickface. Yeah, you listen to emm.. er.... Blink-182, Plus-44 and you think that you know all the rock, yeah, keep living that ekhm... "dream". Kids make my angry if they talk shit like that.
@XxStrongdrums1996xX I'm far from a drummer. But you can't really compare buddy rich to travis barker. Yes they are both excellent drummers but they play two very different styles of music. Travis barker plays some great drum beats for some pop punk band. And rich plays great beats for some jazz tunes. But when the day is done they both do a great job for the styles they play as different as they may be. Haters are just gunna be haters. You gotta look at the whole picture before you start drawi
And again, the Rich Vs. Barker argument. Look people, drop it. If you say Travis is better, you are immature and uneducated. If you say Travis sucks, you are immature and uneducated as well. Trust me when I say that he does NOT suck, and does not only play singles/doubles. Travis has got one hell of a set of hands, he just doesn't express it through his playing as it's not required for the music he plays. I will guarantee that half of you haven't even watched a video of him playing.
I'm seriously starting to think all this mentioning of Travis Barker is just someones form of trolling, because there is noooooooo excuse for anyone ever thinking that some like Barker even comes close to the god status of some like Buddy Rich... none.
i love when people say that travis barker is a good drummer. it just makes life easier for the people in the world who are actually talented at music to weed through them.
Buddy's drums REALLY sound good in this clip. Some clips I cant even hear the difference between the sound of the ride tom and the floor tom. The bass drum sounds particularly good here.
Barker fanboys? the fucking Rich fanboys are worse. Who are you to knock a talented musician who has acheived more than you ever could dream of? I like to think that if Buddy was still alive he would use his black belt in Karate to kick the crap out of you for being such an arse licker. When did playing drums, or any instrument become a competition anyway?
@4against1 Damn man, you're my hero. Best troll I've seen in a while. Nobody knows how to troll well anymore. Then again maybe everyone else who commented is just gullible...
I have a friend who also thinks that Travis is the best drummer ever, he's 33 and never heard of any of the old greats, so I show him videos like this and he's like "meh?!" - so very very frustrating....
why do people always have to mention tb in everyone 0f buddy's videos.all real drummers know the difference.any decent drummer can do tb stuff.maybe you don't like jazz, fine but what buddy is doing is way beyond what most drummers can do.that's just a fact.
Buddy wasn't the highest paid sideman for nothing in his day that tells you he was miles ahaid of the others. When he got his start at Joe Marsalas place in 38 he was what hendrix was in 67 and Parker in 47 a musical anomoly a freak that other drummers would see and want to get out of the business. It wasn't till the fusion scene came in that the drumming world exceled again.
BUDDY IS THE ONLY drummer that other drummers would feel uncomfortable bieng around
The godfather or traps playing. All of the great drumming legends have one way or another been influenced by BR by default just by rudimentary practice. Buddy is MR snare period.
I dont know many players that would humiliate a twenty five year old pro player

Sure is great to end a youtube session of watchin great drum vids to Buddy Rich, and much shorter when I begin the session with em. Buddy is still the best
I picked up the DVD from a local Guitar Center store about a year ago. It's called Buddy Rich Up Close, and comes from The Drum Channel. I think it cost me about $20 at the time. It's great! You can watch with the normal sound mix, or drums louder than the band, or vice versa, and slow motion on some parts of some tunes.
I saw the Big Swinging Face myself when I was 8. There is a new generation of disciples who do him proud. That being said, there tons of players who do not have the discipline to carry this man's sticks. Just watch that left rist. Duck paddle drummers beware.
@4against1 barker wipe the floor with rich??? AAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAA!!!!!! you're f**king delusional you f**king moron!!! even barker himself would say that rich is a huge influence! i swear man, some people...
@slippydoggIgnore that tweeker. He is a troll. Nothing more. He goes to almost every youtube video of Buddy's and posts stupid shit about Travis Barker.
@4against1 .........I feel bad for you really.......If you really think Travis is a better drummer then Buddy..........you have very serious issues................the first is you know nothing about drums................enough said.
@4against1 I suppose all the Barker fans would love that. Only problem is that Barker is not in Buddy's league on ANY level.......................and Travis would be the first to tell YOU that himself if you ever asked him.
@antibulletdodger101 Original means nothing? There wouldn't be a song to groove on if the song wasn't written. I like Dennis' version a lot too. I love his playing and he does groove like a motherfucker but he didn't "put" anything into this song. He gave his take on it and it sounds like the same song with Dennis Chambers playing on it. It wasn't intended to groove. It was intended to swing hard like Buddy loved. He grew up in the swing and bebop era, not the funk, fusion, groove era.
@antibulletdodger101 That was as important to him as groove is to you. Buddy was middle aged before music started to groove in the modern sense. I'm sure buddy could groove just as well as anyone if the music called for it. The original always matters, even if you like someone else's version better. After all creating music is the whole point. If you liked this song... i mean apart from the drumming than you would probably prefer Buddy's version over Dennis' because it sounds more fitting.
@antibulletdodger101 Unless you just love Dennis Chambers and you like hearing him go nuts over something and you don't really care what the song is. If that's the case than you should really re-examine music. There is a reason why Dennis and his peers play at these memorials for Buddy. Not because they think they can do it better.
@divinegrinder Music is not science, you don´t use arguments to persuade people. What you´re really saying is you don´t accept different opinions. The music Buddy played sounds horrible in my opinion, live with it.
@antibulletdodger101 Right...based on your statements however you are of below normal intelligence. Therefore your opinions mean a whole lot less than someone of normal intelligence.
@antibulletdodger101 I applaud you for trying to sound smart.... I'll leave ad hominem to the right wing christians and cult members. What i said is not even close. You're statement that "original meens (<--yup) nothing" is complete horseshit. This is not a matter of opinion. You also say that Buddy's swing doesn't add groove to a song that was written by the Buddy Rich Big Band. A song that was intended to swing. Idiotic statement. Sometimes peoples opinions are wrong.
@antibulletdodger101 Since you apparently like reading study guides for high school SATs i'll give you an analogy: Buddy Rich is to drumming as Black Sabbath is to metal. The only difference is modern metal bands have surpassed Black Sabbath in terms of technical ability. No drummer has surpassed Buddy in technical ability to this day. So you can say he "sounds horrible" all you want but any serious drummer would laugh at you.
@divinegrinder Buddys music sounded terrible to me, and others. Originalty means nothing, you like it if it sounds good. And yes, it is a matter of opinion, it´s not an equation.
@antibulletdodger101 Originality means nothing??. Having the artistic ability to write something is the most important thing in music. I would trade technical ability for the ability to write something memorable any day of the week. You're telling me that if you like a cover band's version of "Stairway to Heaven" more than the original than they deserve just as much credit for playing it that way as Led Zeppelin gets for writing it. Bullshit. Nothing wrong with playing existing songs but...
@antibulletdodger101 give credit where credit is due. You sound like an ignorant 14 year old girl who listens to Justin Bieber. Wake up and maybe start learning an instrument so you can write a song you homo. Then you'll see how hard it is to create something memorable enough that other musicians would want to learn and play their own version of.
@antibulletdodger101 I would agree with that. Did you really think you weren't gonna get an argument when you slam Buddy Rich on a Buddy Rich page. You weren't giving an intelligent opinion with an explanation. You weren't being constructive You just threw a statement out there, which is your right. It's my right to point out how dumb you are. I'm explaning myself clearly and my manners are pretty good given the situation. If you start an argument, you should know how to argue.
