First of all, we don't die, but our bodies do. We have chose to live in this material realm, and have had to accept material bodies. The soul (us) is eternal, however, these bodies are not. We have forgotten that we are soul, due to the contact with this material world, and thus we falsely identify with this body, and we think we die. We are an eternal and individual living being, part and parcel of the Supreme Living Being, but all is forgotten, per our desires.
humans have a deep-seated natural desire to live. We also possess a keen sense of time and a perception of eternity. King Solomon wrote that God “has planted eternity in men’s hearts.” (Ecclesiastes 3:11, The Amplified Bible) Under normal circumstances we want to keep living indefinitely. We want life with no expiration date.
There is no reason to this. We humans have more questions than there is answers to. What are we? Simply a conscious mind, and then the rest of the universe is silent- the stars we'll never touch, the planets, the trees its all a silent mystery. And please keep in mind that we cry out to the skies as if it could understand our longing for sense, but the act of questioning is one sided burden, we are alone and the ephemeral. Don't search for a meaning to life, search for a deeper experience to it.
Because without death, life would be without purpose. Given the facts of birth, life, and death, we are faced with no other consequence other than to make the best of our time here and create and/or destroy.
"why does someone have to die?" it's life, either by the deterioration of one's own body or one's mad thoughts that are caused by sadness, depression, loneliness(mentally) that drive one insane into ending one's own life with his own bare hands...great piece, wish it was prolonged...
I've just been listening to John Adams (for those not in the know, he is another contemporary American composer). He is extremely popular, and composes in a minimalist style, just like Glass. But his music always seems to be OTT, brassy and everything. But Glass captures emotion much better- this piece is so powerful and moving! I would reccomend his opera Satyagraha, it's for strings and woodwind only :) Glass FTW!
Strange how a stimulus like music, beautiful music like this can bring back memorys and trigger emotions. Even though it is sorrow it reminds me of a time of hapiness which makes me think it wasn't all bad.
There's life after death for some; eternal death for others. Death will ensue after one enters the Sea of Karma thinking they're a good swimmer.. no one can carry their own weight in that darkness, and few have any idea just how heavy they really are.
No, I don't think that there is any such thing as "Karma" and the darkness is unperceived because the subject's sense organs no longer function after death. You are "swimming" in a muddle.
I'm sorry, maybe instead of Karma - just using the words cause and effect would be more appropriate. You don't accept that there are moral consequences for the things we do? If not, I guess the initiation of violent death isn't troublesome anymore.. & not a low blow, just a seemingly rational expansion of ideas
What is it that senses through your organs while you have them? I would assert something that is independent of the body that will experience beyond death
I think it is important investigate the meaning of the word "someone" in this question. This "someone" is not necessarilly a vague "other", but a statement which applies to us too. i.e. why does someone, in being someone, have to die?
"Why does someone have to die?" a question can be answered by ; we have to die sometimes, or we have the desire to just not exist anymore, because of the pain, the suffering, the unknown, the uncertainty, the madness, the loneliness...the fears we carry inside us throughout our lives. Virginia Woolf, Sylvia Plath, and many many others took their lives because of the confusion they suffered from, however, they will always exist in our hearts! I JUST LOVE LOVE THIS MUSIC, THEME, THE MOVIE..
I prayer so much that there is eternal life in heaven, the universe has to have logical principles; there simply has to be a point and reason to us being here, listening to this, going to sleep, falling in love, feeling pain etc. It is hard to imagine there being a reason but it is impossible for me to imagine no reason. There is something, we just have no idea what it is. yet.

You'll die because you've lived.
The Sea of Karma is a dark one.
And who could swim with the things you've done?
Christ alone.

Young persons die unduely because the system does not permit too many different approaches from its norms.
Most of the systems are conceived by old minded people.

No one has to die. We say that death makes us value life, to shield ourselves from the pain of death.

life has to disappear so more can appear. It has made the world better in the long run, but is painful in the short run.
death frees us from the suffering. Is the suffering really worth the happiness? probably for most.
:(
