  • My red light is flashing which signifies problems. I can sell return it so I will. ( I've had it for 25 days) problem happened after I cleaned the "cell' as directed.

  • Red light just has to be reset

  • Oreck....bought one... poorly designed.

After the cell container gets dirty, cleaning it no matter how determined you are will never return it to original state, which equals inefficient performance.

    One unhappy camper....!

  • I bought Orek last year. Worked as advertised but seems to be running on second gear these days. Unable to fully clean the buil up of dust etc from the cell plates. Gotta be careful or the wires will break.

One irritating fault I find is after cleaning the Cell, putting it back in original postion is a real pain. Couldn't the engineers who designed it have done a better job.?

  • I had a Oreck I bought in 1994 and it worked just great as it always pulled out a ton of dust from the air. But it finally quit in 2005 and so I bought a new one in 2006 and it was a real dog as it does not pull anything out of the air and has to be washed a lot more than the old one. It is always clean but needs to be washed all the time. Will not buy another one. Looking for something different.

  • systems engineer. i tested thousands of products. the Oreck XL air cleaner has a tiny motor, a bad bearing, a flimsy fan blade that bends if you move it. the ion wires oxidize and break. hard to clean. poor value. i charge Oreck and all who profited from this with mass grand theft & conspiracy to distribute defective products.

it was 500$ (equal to 750$ now, times millions).

  • GO TO EBAY AND SEE WHERE ALL THE BIDS ARE PLACED.........YOU GUESSED IT!! ORECK !!!!

  • I HAVE THE ORECK AND HAVE NEVER HAD A PROBLEM WITH IT.........

  • I have both of these units and both seem to work ok SO FAR (bought 3 months ago). I find UV-C bulbs to be pretty useless unless, even the powerful ones, but admit I've never lab tested them, only going on personal experience in the past.

  • It's hard to test UV since it is killing things like germs and viruses - and you can neither smell or see them. Some of the tests done in Japan show viruses being killed (using petri dishes) by the use of UV in air purifiers...

  • I wish I never bought mine......when it's running it has a stong smell....like someone left the cap off a magic marker. It stinks so much I can't use it.....and it's not an ozone smell either (like the ionic breeze smell)

  • One of the things you could note about the Oreck, is that its blower uses a cheap sleeve bearings, which has burned out for me about every two years. This aspect of the Oreck purifier is pathetic in design, when buying a product that is supposedly "professional." I will never buy another Oreck--they're junk!

  • Thanks for the feedback!

  • @dtmspam what air purifier do you recommend thas its worth the money??? I have asthma..... so im looking something that clears the dust right up.

  • oreck isnt shipping the XL anymore according to the commercial I just saw, they are upgrading every order for the XL to the "ProShield-Plus-with-Helios-Sh ield-Air-Purifier"

Can you update this comparison with the new model? (I think its just the same technology just made in a slightly bigger size but I could be wrong)
