  • Anyone know where to get that counter thing @2.15

  • @cianosbach Hi dude, look it up it's called groove guide pro 600. It kinda tells you at what tempo you're playing...

  • did not notice him without a hat.....

  • Dennis has always been one of my favorite drummers.I hope you use his talent again Carmen.Very nice song too, very relaxing.

  • thank you carmen :)

  • anyone know what that thing with the numbers is at 2:15?

  • @rdavidr That used be called a beat bug. I don't know who is making them now but

basically its a speedometer for drummers. It registers the time between hits.

    I still have mine somewhere.

  • Thankyou for biggin up Dennis. He's the biz and nice with it. Sounds like a great band.

  • Grande,Maestro!!!

  • im searching EXACTLY for SUCH KIND OF MUSIC, what kind is it and where can i find it. would love to hear more of that spain music, but in that kind...

  • @AodhaMaredud Hello! I am currently working on my latest album which features Dennis on Living Legend (vocals & song in this video) and two other songs as well as Tony Coleman (BB King's drummer) and Brazilian percussionist Marquinho Brasil (formerly with Mariah Carey)...please feel free to visit MILAGROMUSIC or the Carmen Milagro youtube channel (also Itunes, Cdbaby.com, Amazon, Google etc etc)

  • Listening to the first few seconds of this video I was thinking weather he enjoys playing this kind of stuff or on any random recording session. It was strange to then see him actually answer that question so beautifully.

  • @caniplaydrumsforyou ...I just hung out with Dennis a couple weekends ago at Yoshi's Oakland, he was playing with Grafitti...he is SIMPLY an amazing human being, an amazing friend & mentor who happens to be an amazing drummer! I believe his heart beats to the tune of all the music he plays....that's just how I view his magic:o) That's just my 2 cents :o)

  • great drummer. wise words!

  • fantastic

  • What is that counter next to him?????

  • @pathemus it's a mixer. Whis is usually in every studio. He can mix the sound what he likes to. you know... less drums, little more piano bass and so on ... so he can mix the headphone output how ever he wants, even the click.

  • @staninLE It looks a lot more like a digital tempo and dynamics monitor...

  • what is that 'meter' thing on his side?

  • @naspuloy It's called the "Groove Guide". It somehow messures the bpm you play on your bassdrum, snare (or other drums), I guess they use triggers. It's kind of an 'alternative click track' if you will. It doesn't give you a real click track, but it's supposed to let you know when you're off your desired tempo (probably with a beep noise or something).

  • dennis keeping it real and not being afraid to show what real is..... nobody can do what he does..... Showin the freedom

  • some one pls tell me the name of 1st song!!!!

  • What?! He came to Alameda?! I live in Emeryville!! That's so cool!

  • What's the name of the introductory song till 1:54?

  • Comment removed

  • What does Dennis have mounted on his cymbal stand to the left of his hi-hat? You can see it at 2:10. I don't think it's a metronome ....... What is it ?

  • @And74Th1 That's a Groove Guide, it tells him what tempo he's playing. Google it. There are other ones available called the tempo ref and beatbug

  • I love you, dennis!

  • Dennis is ThE MAN.

  • I don't think Dennis is actually using the device. He never looked over at it during the entire recording session.

  • huge wise guy. love him

  • What is that meter on his cymbal stand?

  • holy shit this mans' forearms are bigger than my calves!

  • Dennis Chambers fucking rocks! thanks for all the years of drum shredding.

  • sos un grosoooooooooooooooooo!!!

  • recorded on ....4/20!!!!

  • what is the name of this track please?

  • dennis the drum doc.

  • Awesome stuff. Really insightful. Thanks for the post.

  • ugh inspiration, I'm striving to be that good.. i just started playing at age 15 ): Really hope it's possible for me to do so!

  • anybody knows whats that machine with red numbers staring at 2:59???

  • just listen to Dennis he's got some good advice

  • That was definitely Joel Smith!

  • Some good advise from a real pro. And good encouragement.

  • can someone tell me what that black device is with numbers in 3:01?

  • Yes calvinlotz, Santana drummer Dennis Chambers. Wouldn't you love to have him on your recording?

  • @AMPsfnet i'd love to shake his hand...see if there's a power transfer lol

  • @AMPsfnet i am thinking about putting up an online magazine called drumonline.mobi what do people think.

I would have 5 players from each instrument write there own articles with 10 pictures and 2 to 3 minutes of video.

    Doug Hauf

  • @AMPsfnet sweet, thanks

  • "Santana drummer Dennis Chambers"? Probably his least prestigious recording.

  • Holy crap!!! Dennis Chambers knows Joel smith?

  • I love Chmaber's drumming, but his not impressive in latino grooves. That's not his style.

  • How is it, with all the young whippersnappers running about these days, that DC is still lord and king of funk and fusion drummers? The man is a magician, truly a Buddy Rich and a Billy Cobham rolled into one.

Thanks for this vid, btw. Really awesome stuff. I wanna buy the CD now.

  • what is that display near the hihat? A decibel monitor?

  • @bradiporitmico keeping the timing

  • See more of Dennis Chambers at SoulDrummers . com

  • Thanks guys! The intro track is a work in progress, an instrumental that I may include on my upcoming CD (working title - Leyendas y un MILAGRO - Legends and a Miracle) I am EXTREMELY blessed (believe me I KNOW how lucky I am) and honored to call these legends Dennis Chambers and Tony Coleman (BB King) my friends and am soooo lucky to have them as my mentors! Tony Coleman interview is found on the Carmen Milagro Youtube channel or milagromusic website. Thanx Carmen Milagro

  • Ahhhhh!!!!!!!!!

That IS Joel Smith!!!! Ahhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And I've never heard Dennis speak so 'personal' with anybody. This CD must be dope.

  • I never saw or even imagined what kind of haircut Dennis has...

    Now I've been enlightened

  • Hey now that was great

  • Gotta love, Dennis. Also love those 100 or so Heineken mini kegs behind him :D

  • What song is playing at the begining?

  • was that joel smith in one of the scenes? Joel smith is amazing on the bass and drums. the guy that took a picture of the group, looked like joel smith.

  • I don't remember if that is Joel Smith, sorry.

  • @AMPsfnet It's a Groove Guide. google it

  • @AMPsfnet YES THAT IS JOEL...U CAN HEAR TOO....OMG

  • @drumchopz Yo man it's either, a decibal meter for volume, or it's a clique track devise.

  • @drumchopz yo man it's either like a decibal meter for the volume of them drums, or a clique track for recording.

  • @drumchopz yes it is :o) cheers carmen milagro

  • sick drumming....

    100%

  • what's the things near the Dennis?

i mean things is kind of machine and there is number...

    u can see around 2:13~

  • @gutch6 I am not sure what that devise is, sorry.

    jarid

  • @AMPsfnet its a beat bug, it measures your tempo and tells you if your plaing ahead of behind the beat etc. It spurised me that he would use this sorta divice.

  • @gutch6 This device is a Groove Guide Pro 600.

  • @gutch6 I think it has something to do with his snare trigger

  • @gutch6 It basically tells you the BPM you´re playing in,

which can come handy in live situations when you don´t want to strictly follow a click track but still want to keep the tempo as consistent as possible.

Seems he prefers it in the studio as well though :)

  • @gutch6 Hey man. That thing your looking at is called a Groove Guide. This device is supposed to help you learn to keep tempo by

showing you an LED readout that will show you the BPM at

    which you’re playing.

  • @gutch6 Hey man. That device is called a Groove Guide. This device is supposed to help you learn to keep tempo by

showing you an LED readout that will show you the BPM at

    which you’re playing.

  • @gutch6 that device is called groove guide, it helps you to fix your time and it shows abberations for i am not sure if dennis really needs one :-D

  • @gutch6 it looks like it measures how hard the snare is hit...but im not sure

  • @gutch6 At 3:02 you can read 'groove guide', although it's kinda small. A trigger can be attached to your snare or your bassdrum, and then the device is measuring the tempo that's being played. Then it will be displayed on the screen. So if you speed up or slow down, you'll see it. The difference with a clicktrack is that you're not following the tempo, but, so the website says, 'it's meant for "tempo awareness". The company is called 'Drumperfect', which produces it. Hope that helps;-)

  • @gutch6 here is the device w w w (dot) drumperfect (dot) com / Groove _ Guide _ PRO (dot) htm

  • @gutch6 It could be triggering how strong the snare hits are?

so that in a recording situation, he could check the dynamics thru out a track, and why snare? i assume that its the most hit drum in the kit.

  • @gutch6 it might be a velocity sensor for the snare drum, you can see it changes only when he hits the snare. and on the snare there is a black thing attached to the side. Snare volume is critical so it might just be a visual indicator for him.

  • @gutch6 I believe that is called a BeatBug.

  • @gutch6 it`s called groove guide pro 600.

  • @gutch6 That is a digital tempo tachometer. You input a tempo, and it can show you if you fall behind or are playing ahead of the beat. It can also be set to display dynamics to help with striking consistency.

Yes I'm a year late, but someone still might be reading and wondering.

  • @gutch6 It's a Groove Guide Pro 600... a little box that gives the drummer feedback about his tempo. Instead of playing to a click (i.e. metronome) he can look at it and see if his timing is drifting a bit. For a drummer like Chambers with really solid meter, it just is a tool to help him be that much more perfect, as it detects slight fluctuations in timing.

  • @gutch6 it's a decibel meter i think, reads how loud it is

  • dennis chambers is the micheal jackson of drumming all these young kids need to listen to him

  • Bless Dennis So much Soul!!!!!

  • is he using 2 mastersound bottoms?

  • @bea5ToloG Yep. I went to one of his drum clinics a few months back and he said that two mastersounds were his perfect sound

  • @triforce10155 looked like it. thanks confirming that

  • post more of these 'interview' vids with dennis please.

  • Is he the same Dennis Chamber who played drums for the Five Stairsteps?

  • After looking up the Five Stairsteps in the all Music Guide, I see only Burke family members in the band. No Dennis Chambers, though he may have played on one of their releases.

  • i got mad respect for Dennis Chambers now. Great interview!

  • What a great video... Thank you so much for posting this!!! Do you have something more about Dennis?

  • @biglalu That's the one and only video I have.

  • No that's the only clip I have of Dennis. Thanks for checking it out.
