Thanks for the video...reminds of being in Brasil in 1984, Rio and Ouro Preto reading Diario dum cucaracha by Henfil and listening to the records of Joao Bosco in the dorms in Ouro Preto while the rain was falling on the cobblestones and everybody getting ready for the first elections in early 1985....great times in that great country...All the best from California
Vida longa a João Bosco. Deus o mantenha lúcido, talentoso e criativo. Nós agradecemos. Obrigado João Bosco.
Joao is a master! The way he introduces the song, hands it over to his audience and then embellishes upon what they do is the mark of a wonderful performer with a huge heart.
I have the record and rate it and him extremely highly. Thanks for posting this.
@oldsyphilitic This introduction is a song called "Smile", by Charles Chaplin, I guess it is the soundtrack for "Modern Times" too... It was later recorded by another great Brazilian composer, Djavan. His version is called "Sorri". Good listening! :)
@oleomilani Yes, thank you, I recognised the introduction. It's a very moving performance, in the way his audience picks up the song (they clearly know and love it) and in the way he lets them take over, just feeding them the odd words. Joao Bosco is clearly greatly loved.
@psyne000 Where are you from? I don`t think that only brazilians are full of love!!! We are, it`s true, but I know people from everywhere full of love too!!! But I liked your post!!! Thanks a lot!!! Best wishes!!!
@evanrkg It's not just similar, it's exactly the same. He wrote the song thinking of Chaplin. Chaplin is referred to as "Carlitos" (or Charlie in English). The first line of the song literally translated goes like this: "One day, during the sunset (or while the sun was gently setting - early evening), a drunken man dressed in black reminded me of "Carlitos" in his felt derby hat (called a Coo-co hat in Portuguese) (Chaplin). I hope that helps you understand the "smile" intro of the song.
So do I. I'm really very grad. Such a comment like yours make me happy. I guess you can speak french and english. Tell me, do you speak portuguese as well ?
I sow you've answered to an Brazilian about guitar's price.
thanks very much for the explanation of this song. I didn't know all the strong background behind it !!! Without knowing the lyrics, it's a music that moves me so much !
muito obrigado por add essa canção...."Then in 1979 the Amnesty has come"...o anistia foi em 1985...esse foi o ano em que meu pai recebeu anistia. Mas tambem pode ser 1979:-p....de qualquer maneira, muito obrigado:-)
