  • Nice retrospect into long island of the past...well done.

  • This was wonderful, and what a great speaking voice Doris has. Long Island must have been virtually empty back then compared to now. Actually, where I live in Seaford a man just sold his family farm the size of an entire block about a year or two ago, and now they're building houses on the land. I always wondered how he could afford paying the property taxes every year since he was so elderly. It's unbelievable how luxurious life has become since the 1930s.

  • I've got some of those ration books from WW2 and I remember grand-mom jacobs hanging noodles and grandpa working at s.s.the crenshaw's,j.d.was a merchant in va.and I also don't no what he handled nor did I know him or my granddad j.d. jr as they both died before I was born in 41.thank you doris for a little slice of heaven to have some of that bread,pastrys or candy and to have a goat or chickens in the city
