I have commented on this video before but I just can't help but come back to it time after time just to see Chrissy getting in to it. Just love seeing that great mop of hair of hers thrashing about like there no tomorrow. What a great girl it's a shame there isn't more like her.
Have you ever had this song playing reallly loud in the car and pulled up on Dandonong Road, mouthed the words at a random and seen a lady smile at you over her dark glasses? Fuck I was awe struck when she winked at me.
Saw them at Ballina RSL in 1984, stood right underneath Chrissy at the front of the stage and her sweat was dripping all over us after a hard days surfing!! Fabulous stuff
i don't know much about the band, but I've read that one of the former members name was Bjarne Ohlin. I'm from Denmark in Europe and that name is kind of danish or swedish. I guess that he his scandinavian ancestry.
where do you start with a band like this ... I could say this is one of my favourite songs but what Divinyls isn't? Love this song! Play it loud everytime. Only time I will ever be star struck is when it was playing loud in the car and I mouthed the lyrics to a middle aged woman in the car next door who smiled and pulled her sunnies down as she smiled at me. Thanks for THAT moment Chrissie. xoxo I'm still star struck darl!

Saw the Divinyls way back in late 81 or early 82 at the old Jump Club in Collingwood (owned in those days by Greg Macainsh of Skyhooks). What a performer was Chrissie, truly elecytrifying
It's sad to see someone that had so much energy being afflicted as she has

@59whiterabbit Yeah of course he is full of shit I mean as one guy he should be able to completely overhall the entire system from his position within the labour party. He always talked about effecting change so instead of staying with the band and making more records he jumped head first into politics..... what was he thinking!?!?!?! /end sacasm.Unlike you he isn't perfect but also unlike you he isn't sitting in front of his pc doing fuck all and bitching at other people for not doing anything
Australian music...I tell you..I live almost on the exact opposite side of the globe (Denmark) and...well...there's something so incredible unique about 80ies music from Australia...dunno what it is but it just incredibly catchy, it rocks...lot of energy....MIdnight Oil (10, 9, 8, 7....., Red sails in the sun set, Diesel and dust)...the old INXS stuff (Shaboo shabaah, The Swing, Listen like thieves etc) etc etc etc Divinyls!!!! almost forgot...ANyway...awesome music...and...get well Chrissy!!!
@Madsennullo its when the right things merge in the one place and at the one time. Mushroom records gave young Aussie musicians hope. Countdown gave young musicians hope that they'd appear on TV. Pubs gave young Aussie musicians a platform. Australian drinkers gave Aussie musicians reason to be good (no fun getting a punched on stage by a punter just cause you didn't satisfy them). Australian girls gave young male Aussie musicians reason to live. Back then, Aussies were young.
@Madsennullo yeah you're right the 80's Aussie music was pretty damn awesome and you just happend name one of my all time favourite albums .... Red Sails in the sunset. Gotta wonder why though that these days aussie music has gone so far backwards? There are a couple of exceptions such as powder finger but not much else.
when its come to progress, australia has always had a clutch within its wheel... its nothing impressive nor charming (as much as some people like to profess that it is). We really are the pretty blonde bimbo nation that lacks mental development. We have a government that puts business before cultural development. This nation pretty much is a working nation where the real heroes are the sportsman, whilst the people are the cheese-burger-eating/beer-drinking punters... its boring.
It used to shit me that the rest of the planet had no regard for Australian pop/rock music. Man, the Church, Go Betweens, Triffids ... I could go on ....
And now that it is getting long-overdue recognition, I just feel like flippin' the bird to them. It's like, my secret has been revealed.
one of the biggest aussie bogan bands ever. Also happened to be brilliant live and the only reason i ever went to Bombay Rock and all those other dives
sad news, she is truly one of the best frontpersons ever to grace a stage or record an album in Australian popular music history. A legend, her shit stands up today effortlessly.
God damn they rock! 28 year old song and it absolutely wipes the floor with this crap music of today. Australia is amazing, the 80s were amazing and the Divinyls were beyond amazing.
@Jeffredo729 something was happening in Australia during the late 70's/early 80's... it was that 'something happening' vibe - much like early 60's Liverpool, Swinging London, London Punk, New York Punk and any other time when something was happening.
During this period, something was happening in Australia...
this video takes me back to the first years of MTV in the U.S. Back when MTV was just music videos and nothing else.... this video was played quite a bit there in the early 1980's.
Excellent job bringing up the lighting on this one too, so many copies here have been too dark.
What a great song - well done mate on both the clip&sound quality - very good. Does anyone remember the name of an 70-80's Aussie band who had 2 hits - Tickle Everybodies Fancy, and Little Romance?
Apparently when they played live in the early eighties she would run to the middle of the dance floor hitch up her skirt and take a piss on the floor, she said it was her marking her territory. So amazing. xx
I could do with being born some 20 years earlier than 1981, just so I could have been there to see the bulk of briliant Aussie bands that were playing around at the time. Chrissie, you are a hero of mine, I love you always... oz rock would never be the same without you! Geelong should be proud!
I think this was in that Monkey Grip movie, the one Heath Ledger's Candy was based on, this song conveys more emotion in a few minutes than current pop crap like Justin Beeboring.
Love the Divinyls and this track is my all-time favourite of theirs. Saw them many times in Melbourne pubs back in the mid to late eighties and this clip sure does bring back some great memories. Thanks for posting the excellent clip. Cheers !

Thanks for the positive comment... this stuff has to look and sound its best. I have watched many clips from a variation of non-US/UK bands and have not found many with top-notch quality. Oftne I see a clip of a song I do not know, by a band/artist I have never heard of and find it very off putting when I'm inflicted by poor sound/picture quality. My aim was to arrest those who are new to this stuff!!
Such a great performance. Who cares about whatever drugs whoever took, it's not important, they still managed to produce a sensational track regardless.
it doesn't matter who took what drugs, until it screws up the band... at the end of the day, it still remains their fault; it's just unfortunate that this line-up couldn't last the distance.
I've read Chrissie's 2007's Aurobigraphy. They were all pretty much Cocaine and Smack/Heroin addicts at the time hoping to crack it big in the US Music Market. I think some of those US music producers over there at the time were of no help and pumping their potential acts full of Coke!
Great song, great band and weren't they just brilliant live at the Palace in St. Kilda. Great memories indeed....80's music was the best, no doubt about it.

Angus and Chrissie you should do a track together. Something along the lines of being a juvenile delinquents with their school uniforms and all ;p

Does anyone here remember an appearance by the Divinyls on Countdown when Chrissy poured a jug of water over her head at the end of the song? I would really like to see it if its on Youtube.

I reckon the riff at 1:42 sounds very similar to the start of Berserk Warriors by Mental As Anything.

late 70s to early 80s Aussie music just hits me in the right spot, and I was born in '73. I get awfully nostalgic listening to these tracks.
