  • when i first saw this i always thought something would jump out and tackle the old woman

  • MOTHERFUCKING GAME OF THE YEAR RIGHT HERE FOLKS.

  • Como puedo jugar no le entiendo

  • Maybe I'm a weird guy, but this art is just means much more than play COD, or other mainstream games. OK I admit, I won't buy it. I tried the trial and it is interesting for me. The reason is simple: it is an art game and it is not common.

I respect for those, who make these games or "games".

  • I'm thinking that in the full version, the old lady was all like "Fuck this, I can't afford a grave! Retirement isn't worth it! I'm just going to die right here!

  • This is a very emotion and thought-provoking piece of interactive art. It is not a game. It is not worth $5 to "play." It should be available to view for free, as all worthwhile art is, real-life art gallery fees notwithstanding.

  • lol, dutch song.

...but very weird lines. stone flowers?

    wut

  • Yeah, too short and not interactive enough imo. The path is really good though, i would recommend that over the graveyard.

  • Excellent piece of art, far superior to ... idno, modern warfare 2?

  • Would be great with Cane Into Spade Mod...

  • The awkward moment when I am actually trying to listen in what language this song is, and after listening twice realizing it's Dutch, which is my... mother tongue.

  • Not quite a game. Still interesting.

  • Comment removed

  • I like the part where she's hobbling along

  • This made me cry Q-Q

  • Best game ever!"!!

  • So, you go to a graveyard, listen to a song for 5 minutes, then leave?

    Boring.

  • @foojuice101 If you get the full version, there's a chance she(?) will die.

  • @DMXP100

Nup, still not buying this game XD

  • @foojuice101 Not really a game, actually. I wouldn't call it that. Looks more like an interactive exhibit you'd find in an art gallery, like the video thing (I think it's called "I am the Messiah" or something like that) in the elevators at the AGO.

  • @DMXP100

Nup, still not buying this interactive-exhibit-that-you'd-find-in-an-art-gallery :D

  • Better than Call Of Duty.

  • This game is dutch!!! OMG I never knew!

  • Wtf. That is all.

  • Meh, fuck you guys. I really like the song, if anything. And I'd pay 5 bucks to support the developers because their other games are great. It amazes me every comment is the same even now, 2 years after video post. Leave it, bitches.

  • It would be better as a short 3D film, but no... it had to be a game. And isn't it charming to pay 5 dollars just to see an old lady die.

  • wow YOU HAVE TO PAID FOR SEE HER DIE????

  • I love artsy games but... damn.

  • I lol'd!

  • Seem this game have a darker story in it...which is interesting.

  • Rofl when I heard this song I was like... reading the subtitles. Then was like.... Wait This is in my language wtf, took me 30 seconds to realize that. Roflz

  • You guys are jackasses. I love this song, and this game. Don't call it a song if you don't want to, don't call it a game. It doesn't matter. Either way, whatever it is, it exists and it is enjoyable.

  • If you all knew the story and meaning behind the song, you'd realize that it's more than just an old lady sitting on a bench.

It IS art, and while I wouldn't pay 5 dollars for such an uneventful game, I still think it's very beautiful.

Look up "The Graveyard- Post Mortem". There's an explanation of the lyrics on the Tale Of Tales site.

  • @Devourthebook15 No, Braid is art. This is a sad attempt at making an artsy video game where there is no actual GAME. If I had to guess, the only reason this game exists is because the indy movie market is already hugely saturated and not nearly as profitable.

  • This was interesting, but I wouldn't call it a video game.

  • Remember that one toilet that's in a museum as "art?" Whenever someone brings up the art defense for this game I think of it. Mainly how it's a better piece of art than this turd.

  • This game is truly art.

I stare at it trying to find the true meaning of playing this game when in reality it just shows that I'm like that old woman, wasting her life away by doing something rather meaningless like walking into a graveyard and doing nothing or playing a game about walking into a graveyard and doing nothing.

Sure, I could play a game that actually was worth playing and has a meaningful moral, but nothing can compare to "The Graveyard."

  • I JUST WASTED 7 min 39 secconds from my fukin precious life!

  • Here's my get rich quick plan: Learn coding, then make a game where a guy walks through a hallway or something, with the screen black and white and with motion blur on everything. The hallway is full of random stuff like a broken bicycle and a TV flashing static. At the end, the guy sits down and cries, and the game ends. Then I will sell the game for $50, and everyone will buy it and gush about how deep and meaningful it is.

  • @Lambda217 Fucker. This one is free. Or you can give five bucks basically as a donation.

  • @Lambda217

The game is 5$ and the creators are certainly not rich. Maybe you don't realise that experimental art is not exactly the greatest way to make money. I advise you to instead write shallow dialogues for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 6. You might make a little bit more money.

  • Already played the demo.

5 dollars to die. I don't care if it's "art". Anything can be art. But 5 dollars to die?

    nope.avi

  • *Level 2*

    "FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFUUUU--"

  • Wait a second...THIS COSTS $5?

  • @cuppajoesugar Free.

  • @supersecretroom No, that's just the demo. The full $5 game has the old lady die.

  • It's just an experimental game on how video games can emotionally effect us.

  • Game? Not really. "It's more like an explorable painting than an actual game. An experiment with realtime poetry, with storytelling without words. " ? Not really. It's called an interactive demo, and I'm not referring to the non-full version. It's a demo where you are allowed to use the arrow keys or gamepad instead of it beeing an animation. Done on Amiga like 2 centuries ago. This is NOT A GAME. Those indie guys are on crack.

  • Thumbs up if you think this game is to full of itself at the end of the trail... xD

  • old lady falls down* bewm headshot

  • A genuinely unconventional game, apparently, in the tradition of "Bad Day on the Midway", "The Path", and "Sunset over Imdahl". Kind of neat. The language of the song is a German dialect--most likely Yiddish.

  • @OlDoinyo It's Dutch, in a Belgian accent. I speak it.

  • @OlDoinyo Yay, The Path was made by the same people, actually.

  • There must be a way to tap on one the graves an awaken an army of Zombies or somthing. This can't be it.

  • Personally, I'm a huge fan of this game, and the idea of creating video games that are a form of artistic expression, as opposed to most games, which mearly exist for entertainment. I've noticed that alot of people here are claiming that this game is bad simply because it isn't "fun". I disagree. Saying that a game must be fun to be a good game is like saying that a painting must be pretty to be a good painting. Many of the greatest paintings of all time weren't especially pretty.

  • @MasterGame12

    I agree.

  • this game represents love, honesty, friendship, betrayal, and even death. I'd be damned if I had to see a live action movie of this magnificent masterpiece!

  • The song is sorta depressing : /

I dunno. Not worth a buy or even a trial.

More like a college student animation reel.

  • and like why are they even asking money for it 3,95 (EU) at steam so if you wana waste some money then yea

  • i have seen good and bad games but this game still makes me ask why whyyyy its more interesting to watch a empty wall still wwwwwhhhhhhhyyyyyyyyyy

  • Why doesn't she just die it would put us out of our misery. The reason I say that is, this game is so pointless and boring I can't believe it got an award. It's not art, it's not beautiful, IT'S TOTAL RUBBISH. the path was way better, now that was art, that had meaning and atmosphere, this had nothing and why waist your time listening to the song on this when you can get it straight of the internet in seconds.

  • This is absolutely stupid and pointless, why would anyone make this waist of time.

  • Why playing the game anyway? Go to the graveyard in real life.

  • Comment removed

  • This game is even more artistic when you use the vuvuzela button.

  • @WUTZAYAK dont bother here shes about to get the 2nd goal!

  • Yo dawg.

I herd u liek sitting so we put a bench in yo game so yo can sit while u sit.

  • THIS GAME IS AWESOME.

BUY IT BUY IT BUY IT

    Serious

  • lol. on my steam profile, there stands that i have this game.

the same with meny other games. "CODENAME gordon", "sam and max: abe linkon must die" and meny other games. its so fuckt up !!

  • This is pretty amazing, dude. Not even kidding.

  • really calm and peaceful, good for meditation or even to have something to write about in school as an assignment, instead of reading a book.

  • i don't really care if this is good art or not, but it sucks as a game.

  • @TheMaxwell777: No! Art does appreciate, and already has appreciated, this and things like this. You don't appreciate art & that is therefore why you criticize this game, which is described in the description as "..more like an explorable painting than an actual game."

    I feel sorry for you.

  • @TheMaxwell777 I guess they you got pwnd then

  • What a scam..disgrace to games everywhere.

  • Ok guys, how do i get shotgun :P

  • I'm sorry, but you have to pay for this game JUST to see her die? Seems like i could have more fun eating a 5 dollar bill and then shitting it out and have fun being sick for a week. Really, i understand it probably took a while for them to make this, but expecting money for something which can't be characterized as a game is a bit much imo. 5 dollars could go help starving kids who die every day do to malnourishment.

  • I get it the graveyard is symbolic of everything we could have spent our time doing other than this. The old woman actually represents the art industry, how it was once vibrant and beutiful but is now dieing under the strain of a thousand piles of trash being hung in galleries.

The world is black and white showing us how modern artists don't even need to finish their crap before calling it art and everyone else narrow minded.

And of course the song is just shit.

  • It's still a good game. Many ppl can't appreciate art tho and that is why they act like they don't get it. They really don't! Other ppl who do get it act like they can't understand why the artist should make a concerted effort to appeal to as wide an audience as possible; probably bc they are snobs who don't want to admit that they are like everyone else & still others that are so close-minded that they are just as ignorant as those who don't understand art.

I feel sorry for both types of ppl!

  • ..having death play a characters role in the game, and having the old lady encounter a ghost, especially if she was walking a dog bc the dog would be able to react to the presence of either of those last two as it would any other-worldy presence that dogs and other animals are known to be aware of. The game isn't without its merits but the examples that I have mentioned are just some of the things that they could have done to make the game more appealing to more ppl.

  • Creating art for arts sake is a worthy and noble thing to do! But, if the creators of this game wanted to create something that made some sort of a statement, whatever that may have been, being inspired by whatever, ...then they should have made the game more compelling and interesting. Such as, having the old lady hassled by a homeless guy for money & cigarettes, being attacked or threatened by a stray cat and/or dog, especially having her walking a dog, ...

  • someone was VERY stoned when he came up with that idea. but I like it.

  • Have none of you critics of "games without action" played Heavy Rain? That game isn't fun at all. It's an experience that pushes you to feel emotion, and think about some of the values that it covers. Films started out purely for entertainment, as games did. However, over time, as people realised the importance of the medium as a form of expression, film auteurs started to make films for arts sake. The same thing is happening now with games. Expect to see a prominent art game movement soon.

  • I think a lot of the people posting here are being very narrow minded. Forget for a moment about whether you actually like this game or not- why should games be played just for fun?

Take films for example. Think of all the hundreds of different genres available. You don't watch a film like 'The Hangover' with the same expections for a film like 'The Shawshank Redemption'. Computer games aren't limited by 8 pixels anymore: why not experiment like this?

  • As someone who enjoyed the hell out of games like flower, ICO and braid I can honestly say that this "game" is the biggest pile of shit I have ever seen.

I see comments from people who seem to be defending it because it's "art". I honestly don't CARE how indie it is. If it's not FUN, it's not a good game. Flower was arty AND fun to play so The Graveyard has no excuse.

Maybe if this was free then I wouldn't be so bothered but charging money for this shit should be a criminal offense.

  • @gorgack2000

I think your comment sums up exactly why the creators of this game have "given up" on video games in favor of what they call "not games." You're right; games are supposed to be fun. That's why this game doesn't work: it shouldn't even be a game. It's something else entirely.

  • I get what you're trying to say because I'm pretty sure all 'games' have to be fun. Really? If it's not FUN, it's not a good game. Does that mean even though I don't like Call of Duty series, and all those hyped up games it probably they aren't good game. Opinions; just because I won't like those games I still respect the work that was put into it.

Maybe you should try watching the death version of this. It will definitely make you think about all this 'shit'.

  • @gorgack2000 People can charge money for whatever they want. The criminal offense should be buying it. If you buy this game, then you deserve to lose your money, end of.

  • @gorgack2000 STOP RIGHT THER CRMINIAL SCUM

  • This game is incredible, if only people could understand it rather than stay stupid. This is a true hardcore game.

  • Apparently, according to a number of the comments here, if a game isn't some Michael Bay-esque, explosion filled bloodsport, it's not good.

Ever taken a literary analysis class? It'll make you appreciate games like this.

  • It's some blurry dull grey scenery and some poor animation, followed by 5 minutes of an old woman face that refuses to emote, while listening to an awful song, and then some more blurry dull grey scenery and poor animation. I would call this an awful experimental film, I would call any screen from this a mediocre painting at best, and I call this an awful game, even for what it is.

  • This is what time wasting is, right?

  • Is that it? Thats it? Whole game?

  • are you being sarcastic dbzgtfanboy? this to me is literally the worst game i ever seen. i mean you walk down a graveyard, sit, hear a gay song, and leave the end. and 5 friggin dollars and you can have her die. woohoo! horrible horrible game

  • Comment removed

  • @dbzgtfanboy, well well well. If it isn't dorky dbzgtfanboy trying to make a fool of himself again. Why don't you just leave youtube, everybody hates you. Then again, it's entertaining watching you suffer. LOL!!

  • omg lol ur saying starwars ISNT dorky? tssk tssk

  • could have used a little sprint action

maybe deal with some zombies or a guy trying to steal her purse ANYTHING!

  • @SRHBRO714 or how about zombies trying to steal her purse! lol...

  • trial version > full version

    -_-

  • This actually tore my heart up the first time she died!!! :(

  • I think its a great horror game. There is not a truly scary thing in it, but the suspense the game builds id quite impressive if you are used to watching screamer videos.

  • OMG I THOUGHT THERE WAS VIOLANCE!

  • modern warfare 2 is art...

    this is retarteded

  • 0/10

  • I just relized that you could take any nonesense, call it art and a bunch of idiots will think its the best thign ever made.

  • @1amsm1th I'm totally fine with that, it's to the idiot to decide what they find apealing. I think this is sort of neat. mostly because I've never seen anything like it.

  • @1amsm1th i've never understood art for that very reason

  • @1amsm1th The very idiots like me who understands symbolism and how it can be used to tell a story within a format perceived as being nonsense. But it requires

insight, empathy and a mere understanding of psychology.

  • @arquende it also requires 5 dollars.

  • @1amsm1th I'm ready to waste 5 dollars anytime.

  • @arquende

Ill teach you the meaning of life for 5 dollars.

  • @1amsm1th No need. I've got that one sorted out already.

  • @1amsm1th Nonsense? Does it have to make sense to be art? Hmm. I rather like this "nonsense." I suppose that makes me an idiot..

  • @1amsm1th try to play that game. it really simple, but it made me cry when "she" tells "her" story, because we are not old but we're going to be. i don't think there is a definition for art. if it touches you then it's worth watching and you can decide if it is art. i'd not define this game art, but it is beautiful, it made me think of many things,

  • @1amsm1th i can identify with that woman, i can imagine myself, old, alone, with a long past behind my back, sitting on a bench and looking around just to make the time pass.

  • @1amsm1th never criticize unless you are prepared to do better

  • why do people consume drugs when making a game?

  • This old lady > Master Chief.

  • even as art, this sucks. BTW the demo is the full game except you cant see the old lady die. who plays that and then pays 5 bucks to see an old lady die??? BULL-SHIT.

  • So much action. Look at that grandma go.

You can do it granny! Take your time.

  • There is ALWAYS something creepy about walking in a graveyard... I think this is really a good piece of art, pretty good!

  • art? lol, i cant see it.

shoters are meant to be fun, and they are.

this litle shit game is meant to be art, and it failed :).

poor boy, art is much more than just making a stupid litle game that is supose to be sad.

now, a shoter in this game, that would certnly be art! i would headshot that granny!

  • "So you like sit on your ass and shoot on stupid little dolls that look like all the same over and over again while your life just rot away right in front of your eyes?"

and i guess that watching that old fart walking all that way is spending your time wisely?? LOOL

btw, fist person shooters are boring when you play alone, but when you play with other(live) players is as fun as any other multiplayer game or table game.

  • are you 12 years old?

  • what kind of dumbass would pay five dollars for the possibility to die?

  • sorry... but i really cant see how you market this as a game with very little interaction involved... to me a game is where you are actually involved and you do some puzzle or walk to the end of a room... however totally can see a "playable tech demo" genre if marketed

  • Song name?

  • This is so intense, i almost crapped my pants when she took her first step.

  • Its not really a game... its more like a tech demo.

  • This game doesn't looks so scary, but try playing it by yourself with all the lights off. Then we'll see.

  • check out their Game The Path

  • intense

  • Wow, they could make much more money if she got some powers and a bigger map.

  • I love the meanings that the tale of tale games have, but i don't really understand this one. Can someone explain?

  • There's really no explanation. It's just a story without words really. I think it's one of those "what do you think is happening" kind of games.

  • Well, like the song says:

Maybe I will stay next time

Then I will be not here anymore

If you have the full version, then is there always a chance of 50:50 that you go with her to the graveyard and she dies there or leaves.

Simply the fragility of life, you never know when and where it will end. You don't even know, if it will end.

    Just like life.

  • God this "game" looks like shit.

"Look at my pretentious game where you play as an old woman who may or may not die!"

"So is there any real game play?"

    "No, not really."

  • PRETENTIOUS DICKWEED FOUND

You do know that you can't control shit in this game, right? You walk her to the bench, hear a song, walk out, she either dies or not, and you realize you shelled out fifteen bucks for the worst game ever made.

  • art my ass.

  • This is certainly art, and quite beautiful at that, but I would have to contest this being called a game. It doesn't appear to me (though this could be my mistake) that you are intended to do anything other than walk the lady to the parkbench and sit down. Is there more interactivity then what is shown here? It kind of needs that too to be a game :P

  • I see your point, definetly. I guess the reason this is labelled as a game is the fact that it's an interactive scenario presented through sound and visuals, using the same techicals as a video game usually uses. In a lack of a better term, I think that's why this is considered a game.

  • scissorhand26, so you would pay 5 dollars for a game where you walk through a graveyard as an old, poorly animated coot, sit down, listen to a song not even in english, and just leave? ...sigh...

  • @BartMan444 no you can see that in the demo, he pays 5 dollars to see her die

  • @BartMan444 I'm pretty sure he was saying that this isn't a game...and the sad thing is, 23 people agreed with you.

  • @BartMan444 it's free -___-

  • @BartMan444 it's free to see her doing that shit, if you pay $5 she might die on the bench in another poorly animated scene, then u won't need to waolk out of there! :D
