@ Joemanses, I think that Susumu Hirasawa has a lot of similar qualities to Laurie Anderson. Both Avant-Garde, both have a unique sound. Her music doesn't sound like Hirasawa's, but I have a feeling if you like him, you'll like her.

can anyone recommend another artist similar to susumu? I just can't get enough of his work, but I'm wondering if there is anyone else out there who might create music of similar quality
That'd be so complicated, since Hirasawa is so unique on his work... but you can check his earlier work on P-MODEL, his former band in which he was the leader, though is not the same style as his solo music.
I've given up on claiming an opinion for which of his songs I find to be the most beautiful. Because for so long, every time I heard a song by him, I'd say what you said; as if every song he made was my favorite.
If every song he makes is my favorite, either he out-does himself every single time... or he has simply reached perfection and all of his songs are perfect... and therefore a favorite.
With prayers, we would call rain...We then gain the power from the mighty wind...At the crossroad, that reflects the beauty of the open sky...I hope I would see you...
(bridge)
so distant...so vast...i would be the part of this universe...
i would go on my way where the sky just unfolds the energy looking like my vein...
Everlasting bonfire, lightens up gracefully...I would carry on with the insight that only nighttime can brings...That crossroad where the moonlight just lights up itself...I would welcome you
(bridge)
so distant...swirling vast...i would be the part of this universe...
Under the moonlight, I would be crawling the ground whispering...I would float the secret river when I hear the calling...
I point the sky wherever my pride points to...With the strength that Mother ocean brought us...That crossroad where the clouds cleared up...I wish I would see you...
(bridge)
Under the moonlight, I would be crawling the ground whispering...
So exotic and intriguing. The opening w/ the flute is so brilliantly composed. I first thought that it was somehow discontinuous but in the end it grows on you and has a nice flow to it.
Can never grow tired of his work.

@joemanses He made so much music over the years, I don't really think you need to many artists to listen to stuff in this style.
