Catholics do not cremate their dead. Not sure about Muslims, but as a Roman Catholic, they don't believe in burning their dead because Jesus came back and stuff. If the body is burnt, its traces on the earthly realm are gone. It's also an earthly representation of hell (fire and stuff) but if the body is burned without the desire to stop it from rising, it is not as bad anymore. That's probably why they are hating on Altair, because he doesn't really want Al Mualem to rise again lol
