be careful with audi's, I work at a Audi dealership and I see the cars coming in more frequently than they should because of recalls or stupid creaks, clunks, rattles because of defects. Lots of parts fail prematurely too! we had 2 a4's with manual transmission come in with a burnt clutch, owners have been driving manual cars for years and said they never had this problem, $2,000 + bill followed on a BRAND NEW CAR!! and if you own a audi PLEASE CLEAN YOUR COWL DRAINS TO SAVE YOUSELF LOTS OF $

I hit 167mph and had no doubts there was a bit more had I been on some sort of 'legal' track. The only other mods it came with were an after-market sway bar and air filter. It's manual and a lot of fun. I simply can't seem to get from point A to point B, without disengaging the ESP(Electronic Stabilization Program) so that I can fly :)

Absolutely. I have always been fond of Audi and although cars like the S8 and R8 are well out of my range, an S4 is handsome, practical, affordable, and equipped with enough muscle to make it a thrilling drive. I believe a lot of M3's have been abused by younger drivers (those in my age bracket, haha) so you run into a lot of problems with the used models.

Don't have one yet, but I am now employed full time as a mechanical engineer so I am counting the months until I can start looking. At this point I am thinking about getting a B5 to play around with as they are selling private party for about half the price of the B6, but I haven't given up on my dream to get one eventually.

@924Carrera My friend had one and the car had tons of problems i would avoid the 04 05, the newer ones are better much more reliable. Friend of mine knows a few mechanics that deal strictly with audi/mercedes/VW and they told my friend stay away from 04 05 s4!

It is true that newer ANYTHING is generally more reliable as the engineering is improved and the rigors of time haven't taken their toll on the vehicle. However, although I think the newer S4's are great looking and performing cars, I still think the B6 is the most handsome. Furthermore, I plan to buy private party from an enthusiast who cares about his cars as much as I do, and my extensive mechanical knowledge will definitely help with any needed repairs. Thanks for the tip though.

2. i was joking about the price. i paid 16.000 euros for the car (that's around 21.000$ i think)...add the extras worth of ~4000 grand...so the estimated value of the car is around 23.000$

Well I was also joking about buying your specific car, but I will still be getting a B6 S4 next. 2004 models are selling for about $14k-$17k around here. There are pros and cons to US car sales... they may be cheaper here, but a lot of stuff is not available, such as my [not achievable] "dream" car, the Lancia Delta Integrale HF Evo 2. I'm sure it's as reliable as an Alfa, but it's still undeniably awesome.

i take to heart all this talk about foreign cars being more reliable than american cars when deciding which make to go with, but in canada, all these cars seem to be the same...they all have their fair share of problems; some minor, some major, but all in all, don't buy cars based on reliability. Because your car may have 6 or 7 problems over its 5 year lifespan, thats no reason to search for more reliable cars. search for what you like...set aside money to fix any car, even german made...

It is a regular CTS with a vette motor which is fast. But audi has better engineering anyway they do it right the first time, I noticed most american cars have a shit load of recalls for stupid problems that should have been fixed before they are sent to dealerships.

Dude, why don't you watch the episode of Top Gear when they test the CTS-V against a S4. Clarkson drives the caddy and the Stig drives the S4. They tuned the V on the ring, the V is faster, sorry but your just straight wrong.

I have owned an B6 S4, a CTS-V and now an e46 M3.. so believe me. The V also gave me far less problems then the S4, so the engineering comment is not valid.

Yeah, of course the build quality isn't good enough, its American. The 4.2 S4 really doesn't have too much available in terms of aftermarket performance add ons. I had a 418 rwhp CTS-V w/ full exhaust, TB, and cam. That car could be viewed comparable to an RS4, although a RS4 is sexier in every way.
