Just like the 3rd type in the video there. I don't know if it is possible to win on that type. I hope we get the machines with the smaller angry birds. i've seen videos with them and they are easier to get.

@MujanFawkes I think they're more like a vending machine... probably easier to win, but you have to pay more. Same concept as going to the grocery store and buying a lobster, I guess.

@MujanFawkes Yeah.. they tend to have a specific payout rate. During most plays, it's not strong enough to grab something so heavy, but every once in a while you might be able to win something.

@turnerl100 There is no payout rate on this because it's an older crane and does not have a computer. You can just adjust the claw strength with a knob inside.

LOL! I regularly trawl for anything on arcade cranes, which I restore. But they have to be the 1950s and 1960s mechanical examples.

The infamous 'yellow box' inside most modern grabbers is almost always set to infrequent, random 'success' settings. I'm afraid you have to be rather sad to want anything to do with these.

There was actually a time when a mechanical crane complete with jib and non-tweakable claw, DID require skill.

@timpovikings I understand what you're saying, but there are still plenty of machines out there, including 3 that I owned, that are not computer controlled, so as long as you can determine that it's strong enough, then it's a matter of player's skill to figure out which item can be won at minimal expense. Having said that, boardwalk cranes are definitely not worth playing... On another hand - people money playing games like golf, bowling, pinball for fun.. at least with cranes you have a chance.

Claw machines are so much fun. Another hint is that if you go to an arcade and you see a little keyring one next to a bigger one, or a UFO catcher (Two prong one) next to a bigger one, go for those. They give a prize almost every time, to encourage you to waste time/money on the bigger, rigged machine. =)

I tried to get this bear from one once. I got it to the side of the bit where the claw opens but never out of the machine. Until I put my hand up and pulled the tag that was hanging over the edge. The toy is now sat by me. My friends will never let me forget that I stole a bear from a claw machine :(

Today at the movie theater, I used $5 ($1 per play) and I won 5 stuffed animal. First: Fail, Second: 3 stuff, Third: Fail, Fourth: 1stuff, Fifth: 1 stuff. Practice makes perfect, I've been doing this since I was little, and everywhere I go, and theres a claw machine, theres no questions asked, I have to look and see if I can win something. If the prizes are not positioned to win, I usually pass. I usually spend $5-$10 per game... Sometimes, I don't stop until I actually get something!

Depends on which big ones... those with large stuffed animals - yes. Prizes there are very heavy and can slip out very easily. Cranes with expensive prizes like ipods, iphones, etc.. I don't think those are worth playing... winning those is like winning lottery jackpot. It happens, but very rarely.

omg i used to be hooked on these games! i mostly played the ones for watches and won most of the time, i played this one with the animals and it would pick up stuff most of the time but when it started to bring it to the prize shute it would take off like a bat out of hell and SLAM INTO EVERYTHING and the prize would go flying... the first time i played it i jumped back, i thought it was going to come flying thrugh the glass and hit me in my face lol. anyone else have that happen?
